Greetings,We were running a bit of orientation on our newly-purchased  FrameMaker 9 this morning and found that one of our computers couldn't dock items on the right.We did the following, pretty much in this order:Opened a book file and promptly docked that stack (?) on the left edge of the workspace.Opened the Graphics toolbar and then the Paragraph and Character catalogs and docked them (click+drag until you see the blue line, let go) into a pod (?)Docked the new pod on the right edge of the workspace.Then we opened one of the files in the book and docked it at the top where it filled the area.As we went through the orientation I found myself unable to dock anything on the right edge of the workspace. I could dock the book (or pretty much anything else) on the left.I noticed that if I docked the document, then it filled everything and I couldn't dock the pods on the right, so I undocked the document and tried docking the previously created pod (?) on the right, but they wouldn't

I'm using Arial Unicode MS in FM 2017 to display Gujarati. I can't read Gujarati, by the way - I just copy and paste. Some text looks fine. But other times it's full of dotted circles. I believe it's something to do with FM interpreting the double-byte unicode characters?

I'm working with several older legacy FrameMaker 11 (or earlier)-generated booklet-type .PDF files created by a former employee. Curiously, the Page Sizing & Handling default settings differ radically from .PDF file to .PDF file to achieve similar print results (2 document pages per 8.5 x 11.0 inch auto-Landscaped page), which creates confusion for customers. For example, .PDF file A is set up as Size/Auto-portrait/landscape, while .PDF file B is set up as Multiple (Document Size = 5.5 x 8.5 in) on an 8.5 x 11.0 inch page. Changing the settings on the Print page skews the output in the Preview window, so that page layouts appear out of order. How can these default values be updated to achieve uniformity in Page Size & Handling settings? From my review of the FM source files, Distiller Job Options and the legacy .PDF files, the answer isn't clear. Thank You in advance for any suggestions! How can I set the default zoom to 90%? Help says that default zoom is determined by monitor resolution which sets the zoom to 140%. Even when I save the dita file at 90% zoom, it reopens at 140%.

Hi,I am considering upgrading from FM12, part of a TCS version I have, to FM 2017 (and dropping TCS). A couple of curious things about this.1) I just googled buy FrameMaker, or similar, to avoid having to navigate the Adobe Website which caters to CC apps and not FM. I first found where I could buy FM for the African and Asian market (priced in SR), and next I got an Asian only Adobe shop that did sell in dollars. I eventually found where I wanted to be, but through navigation from Adobe.com and not search.2) I am installing the trial version of 2017. I went to download it.Adobe's download and installer don't support the Chrome browser.1) This would have been nice to know beforehand, because I would have used Firefox or IE instead.2) Really, you don't support the most popular browser on the planet? I would like FrameMaker 13 to have the ability to rename the master pages.

Using an HTML page template, FM generates breadcrumbs in my HTML5 output. However, I did not find a possibility to assign a certain font to the breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs are always displayed with the default font of the browser (Times Roman for me), even if 'Arial, sans-serif' is set as the font for the Help project in my layout. This behavior is reproducible with the common browsers on different machines and operating systems. Changing the default font in the browser is not what I want.Does anybody have an idea?

Hi all,I am trying to understand the id attributes and need a little help with understanding and resolving an issue. In my structured document, i see this error id=<no value>, and am not sure how to resolve this. How do I define the ID value? Can you please briefly explain and answer the questions below. The screenshot is attached.1: In an EDD file, when an attribute is defined, as Name: idref    > ID Reference   Optional, what does it mean when it is optional and what does it mean if it is required?2: Similarly, for Attribute list> Name > UniqueID > Optional, what does UniqueID mean here? I have read the pdf document on ID attributes but am still in need of clarification to make sure that I understand the concept correctly.Please see the screenshot for the issue. How would one going about creating a graphical navigational interface for a framemaker digital project?Working on a thick technical manual that I realize can be boiled down to a trouble-shooting flowchart. This would be a great navigational device where the user could hop to where they needed to go at a glance.Was going to build it in Adobe Animate or some other project, exporting training manual sections from frame maker and embedding them or linking to them in the Animate project.Wasn't thrilled by the results. Was clunky, pages had to load in and out, very inefficient. So now I'm wondering if I could go the other way, if I could build a graphical navigation interface and import that into framemaker.The goal is to make the interface as simple and clean as possible...though in the same token it's not something as simple as a couple hotspots.Does anyone know of resources, sites, examples of anyone who's done something similar to what I'm describing?

Hi all,Before I dive into my question, here is my work flow:I had an unstructured document that I applied structured to using the conversion table and the EDD file. I had to modify the EDD file along the way, which I did; however, when validating elements, I encountered an error that I have never seen before. I tried resolving it by modifying the EDD file but have been unsuccessful. Can someone please offer their expertise on how to go about resolving the error? A thorough explanation is highly appreciated. The error is “Type-content mismatch; element should be a text range.” Please see the screenshot below. Thank you in advance!

Today, I installed Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 1709 (build 16299.19).When I started FrameMaker, the program hangs when it is loading Fonts.I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results.

I have set the page numbers for the first couple chapters in a book to show as lowercase roman numerals. However, they show as uppercase roman numerals.In the reference page, I have it set to show chapter number, paratext page number. The font was set to all caps, but I adjusted the page number to lowercase with the character designer. This did not solve the issue.(Framemaker 2017)Thoughts?

Hi, I have just submitted bug FRMAKER-3912 on a problem with an attribute named KeepWithNext on a row element. I encountered the bug in FM 12, but it still exists in FM 2017. The attribute always exports to XML as the value 0, even though the EDD and DTD specify a choice of Keep and Anywhere. Values do not import. An analogous attribute named KeepWithPrevious behaves as expected. Sample files are included in the bug report.

Ever since I upgraded FM 2017 to 14.0.3.500 in early December, 2017, the keyword Index search capability no longer works in my Responsive HTML5 output (an online Help system). If you type in the search bar of the Index, nothing happens. Previously, the Index would immediately start offering keywords starting with the string that was input. I did not change anything in my settings files. Any idea why the keyword Index search no longer works?

I am using ExtendScript to dynamically manipulate the formatting of a structured document. It's all working quite well except for one mystery...Given an EDD that has a text formatting rule where the left indent is set to 0 mm. This will be stored in the associated FormatChangeList as an integer value of 0. That's fine, but the default value for all FormatChangeList properties is 0. So my question is, how does the EDD get generated to include only specific instances where a property value is set to 0?In the DataBrowser we see this:String values are set to null and Objects can be tested using ObjectValid()... I feel that there is a hidden mechanism that tells the FrameMaker formatting engine to use the value 0 when it is set in the EDD, but ignore it at all other times. That seems unlikely, so I think this must be a bug in the ExtendScript implementation and that the empty values should be null? is this odd behaviour the same via the FDK? Thanks for any helpIan

Is there a way to add bullet points or bullet lists to a cell in a FrameMaker Table?

Hi everyone,Windows7, FM 10 Newbie here.I have to hand off a book in FM format.  Is there any way that all the files can be packaged along with their graphics? If this can't be done automatically, as in InDesign, is there any way to identify which graphics were used in the book (other than using Date Created to create a cutoff date)? There are graphics in my folder that were not used, or have been deleted. Can a book be automatically copied with all its files, so if it's opened in a different directory, it's complete?  Or does everything have to be saved separately? I would really appreciate any help you can give me, even if someone can tell me it's impossible!
