FrameMaker

I used to be able to see a marker icon in my text (index entries), the indicator is gone now, invisible, but the marker is still there and I can select the invisible placeholder. How do I display the markers in my text - FrameMaker 11?

Seems like there must be an easy fix for this. There was no error message, the windows all went weird though. Have been using FM extensively for half a year, first problem like this.I did do a computer restart.Thank you.

I recently received the 2017 version of FrameMaker and am trying to use the Track Changes feature. It allows me to turn it on and it works. However, as soon as I save a chapter in the book, the "Enable" button is still grayed out as if it is enabled but it no longer works for any chapter. I have tried saving and closing the chapter and saving and closing the entire book and the "Enable" button is still grayed out but the Track Changes isn't working.

Windows 7, 64 bit operating system. In Frame 2017, when I click in the footer to change the version number for example, the text increases from 8 point to very large point such as 20 point. This can happen just by putting the cursor on the version number, and occurs in many documents. The footer is all controlled with a style and there is no extra return or space with a large font. I fix this by clicking "default font" in the character catalog.Similarly, when I delete some 11 point text in the body and then undo what I just did, all the text comes back in 36 points!  Pam

Running FrameMaker 2017 v14.0.1.406 on a Win 7 desktop PC, I've had several instances while editing body text in an unstructured document when the selected text may or may not be highlighted, but inadvertently changes font size (when all I was attempting to do was select it for editing). The font size changes have ranged from obvious (and far too much), while in other instances, they appear completely imperceptible (CTRL + Z to undo - and the Edit menu displays options to Undo FontSize Change or Redo FontSize Change). I may have missed it, but I haven't found anything in FrameMaker 2017 resources regarding the FontSize Change feature. Has anyone else run into this issue? Thanks.

In Fm 14 the view options are session global - but which settings are meant with this?There are View > Borders, View > Text Symbols, View > Rulers, View > Grid lines, andView > Options (Checkboxes for Borders, Text Symbls, Rulers, Grid lines, Graphics)IMHO there are some interferences between the two, because underlying are different commands:View menu:  ViewBorders (x361), ViewTextSymbols (x362), ViewRulers (x363), ViewGridLines (x364)More View commands:  ViewBordersOn (x3F1), ViewBordersOff (x4F1)  ViewTextSymbolsOn (x3F2), ViewTextSymbolsOff (x4F2)  ViewRulersOn (x3F3), ViewRulersOff (x4F3)  ViewGridLinesOn (x3F4), ViewGridLinesOff (x4F4)  ViewGraphicsOn (x3F8), ViewGraphicsOff (x4F8)My observation is that the two sets of options  act on the same 'switch' within a document, but  do not act on the same 'switch' for the session.Is this correct? I have filed bug FRMAKER-3007In FM-13 and before CTRL+0 opened the list of variables and with quick selection only a few keystrokes were necessary to insert the variable. For example:CTRL+0aEnterinserted the variable named Arrow.Since I had only recently used this function in FM-14 I did not discover it earlier and assumed a recent Windows update as reason. But removing that update did not help. I have FM15 on one computer and FM9 on another. My client has FM10. Can I save back from 15 to 10? Or should I use FM9?

Hi everybody,I have an issue with a rather big script.Here is what the script does:it runs over a *.ditamap and rearranges the many *.xml files into a few *.fm files for a new *.booka specific titlepage.fm is added into the *.bookTOC and index are generated and included as wellformats and definitions are imported from a specific variable.fm into to book.The script works fine until there is more than one FM instance running it, i.e, until I use FrameMaker Publishing Server 2015, which runs a few FM instances simultaneously.Here is what goes wrong:FM instance 'a' imports titlepage.fm from any other FM instance runningthe import is not applied on every *.fm file of the book.Result: the books have the wrong titles pages, sometimes also the wrong footer and colors.The script is ExtendScript and does not contain any app.ActiveDoc.During the run, files are generated under \AppData\Local\Temp, could the mix occur due to a dissociation issue with those files?

First admission – while I'm currently migrating a lot of content from unstructured .fm to DITA, I'm not using structured .fm to do it; all sorts of reasons.That said, here's my current challenge. A bit of creative autonumbering plus thoughtful use of NextPgfTag made reference information like this very easy to deal with.I have, however, no idea of which DITA tools to reach for. Specialisation + extended .xslt won't be an option, and even the thought of (mis)using tables for layout brings me out in a rash. Are there elements in the programming domain that would help? Thanks in advance for any tips.

I am using FrameMaker 11. This product is owned by my employer. I don't own it and have limited administrator rights on my computer.My ProblemI am using unstructured FrameMaker to create a book. I am using unstructured FrameMaker because I am unable to generate a table of contents, list of figures, and list of tables in Structured FrameMaker: FrameMaker 2015 no longer generating tables of contents (TOCs) . Until today I had no problem opening and working on chapter files. Now when I open a chapter file, it is "blank" and the page number and line number show "-1." Then FrameMaker crashes.I have tried all of the solutions offered in the following Adobe forum. None of them worked.FrameMaker 11 won't start up If I change the product interface to Structured FrameMaker, the chapter files open with content shown, and FrameMaker does not crash.How can I solve this problem?

Hi all,In instances where we wanted to have custom text act as a cross-reference link (i.e., not the destination's text, or a topic title, etc.), we created "gotolink" and "newlink" markers. I have tried turning of smart quotes via Format>Document>Text Options and unchecking smart quotes. This successfully turns them off for the document I have open at the time. But I have to repeat this process for every new document I open otherwise smart quotes are still used. Is there a way that I can set them to off by default?I'm using FM2017.Thanks!

This may be another no-brainer, but I'd like to create a cross-reference to a step number. The problem I'm encountering is when I want to reference, for instance, "step 14 and step 15." I can't seem to figure out how to exclude the period behind the first step so it looks like "step 14. and step 15." Anyone know of a workaround?Thanks,Leanna

I have searched for the answer but I do not get the answers posted! I just need some steps to do this.I have usually inherited templates so has not come up before. I have a document with different sections. On the first page I need a text frame or flow with a single column width across the width of the page. Below it on that first page I want to start another text frame or flow with two columns. And then later on revert back to the one column followed by two columns. Not sure how to do that whether on a regular page or master page.

Hi, I am converting a Word document into FrameMaker.I have to insert a few long columns (sometimes over 150 lines per column section) at specific places in the text. There might be a very easy trick to do that, however I haven't found it yet! Basically, this is the document structure I want to achieve: Column sections (in green) that start and end within normal text sections (just like we would do it in Word). I have tried to divide my basic text frame and convert specific divided sections into column sections. 1 chapter divided into 5 sections: section 1: regular text and graphicssection 2: 2-columns sectionsection 3: regular text and graphicssection 4: 2-columns sectionsection 5: regular text and graphicsHowever, these sections do not automatically adjust when I paste large amounts of text into them. Hello all,I have not used PDF in a very long time, as all of my work is online. But now a client asked me to solve a couple of problems with their structured FM setup and one of them is making the links in the index work in PDF. Generating the PDF with the usual job options makes the hand appear over the page numbers, but the click does not lead anywhere (not even a non-existing target). I have tried switched on named destinations in the PDF settings but no difference.Can anyone tell me how the PDF generation is supposed to pick up the index markers ?Thanks4everJang

Hi again.  I'm getting it down, however in structured when, I click on the red graphic box to add my graphic.  Select the image, make sure copy into document is checked, select "fit in selected rectangle", click set. I look at everything "figure title, graphic, fm.graphic, fm.title, fm.titleref" , everything looks great.  I put in a cross-reference, everything looks great.  So, I save and close, then reopen.  The graphic is missing, and error for unresolved cross-references come up.Why won't it save the image?

How do I get a word count? In the older versions we had a utility to count it.
