FrameMaker

I'm publishing to HTML5 with Frame 2015, but it seems the html template has to be reimported every time. This is what I see:Modify a custom template.htmlOpen settings.Import custom template.Save and close custom .sts settings file.Publish.Now I will see my changes. For example, if I changed the footer.However, if I change the footer again and save the html template, I don't see those changes in the output unless I redo steps 2-5.Is this the correct behavior? If so, any way around having to repeat the steps?TIA

Good morning,I have been a Tech Writer for about 3 years now.  I have always used MS Word, and converted to PDF.I was hired by a new company.  They asked my about my proficiency with Adobe Frame Maker.  I said "What's that?"  They snickered and asked again, and I told them I had never heard of it, let alone used it.  They said it was a core requirement of the position.  We researched, and discovered this requirement had been accidently omitted from the job posting, and nobody caught it during the hiring process.  The manager was exceptionally cool about it, and told me to take a week or two, three if I need it (paid) and teach myself the program.  My thoughts were "How hard can it be, it's just a word processor, right?"  Turns out I am not entirely confident I can rise to "proficient" by self-teaching for three weeks.Which brings me to my question. There must be a simple answer to this question: How do I import markers from one frame maker file into another? Do I check variables or cross-reference formats, or is it something else? I can't import all due to some changes between the documents so I want to be as selective as I can be.You're help is appreciated!Thanks

I am having trouble shading a single column within a three (3) column table.  I'd like to shade the middle column to provide a visual separator between the columns with entries. Can someone please advise on this seemingly simple task?I've attached some screen shots as an aide.Thanks,MB

Anyone having problems using LRM (left right markers) in xml files that you open in Fm2015? The files are translated from English to Persian. We are using Arial Unicode MS for Persian in Fm which works fine, but strange questions marks is shown where there are LRMs in the textfiles. OS is Win7 or Win10.

(I thought we already had a thread about this, but I can't find it!) - but I've just run into the same problem with Frame 12 that I've read about other people having.I have Frame 12, fully patched. With a book file selected (and all my chapter files open), I do File > Save as PDF,choose the settings I want on "PDF Setup for Selected Files" dialog, and off I go..... Those settings include the CMYK radio button.I don't get any error messages, but loads of items are missing (blank) in the resulting PDF - mostly graphics, but also some coloured table border, text, all sorts of stuff really.If I select the RGB radio button instead, everything is present (although I want a CMYK PDF!!)What is going on? Is CMYK PDF generation just broken in Frame 12?I seem to recall someone saying an imported .AI graphic was the culprit in their case, but my graphics are mostly all just PNG or PDF.

I'd like to use a custom style sheet for code samples. For example, CSS like prism and others nicely pretty print code in color. I also need to have it look good in PDF, so pass through HTML doesn't seem like the right way to go. Ideas? TIA

Publishing to HTM5 results in a separate dir for each chapter with each file having its own CSS file. Is there a way to force the normal thing: Have 1 css file for all those file rather than multiple copies? TIA

Changes I'm making in my TOC reference pages  (tabs, chapter numbers) aren't appearing when I view its body page. But something is updating, because if I change my TOC heading1 color it changes on the body page. Anyone know what's up?I'm running FM 2015 and the TOC is it's own document inside the book. Updating the book (Edit>Update book... with book in focus) or updating references (Edit>Update References... with TOC in focus) doesn't help.My reference page:My body page:

How do I achieve this look in FrameMaker? I have created a separate Paragraph Tag for equations to be initially aligned in the center. How do I make a certain portion of text be formatted to the right of the page?  This is what I want in FrameMaker. The equations in the middle and their names to the right. Is there a way to convert an auto-number sequence to text?I was given a parts list numbered with a chapter number, a fig. number and then an auto Item number. Example: (8-3-1, 8-3-2, 8-3-3, etc.) the next parts fig. numbering would be (8-4-1, 8-4-2, 8-4-3, etc.).When I try to copy and paste into excel I lose the numbering. I can cut/paste into Word and then it will convert the auto number to text, but it doesn't understand the sequence and restarts every new parts list at 8-1-1.What I need to do is delete everything but the part numbers and the item numbers and then sort by the part numbers for a locator table.I presume that if I do a sort in frame by the part number, Frame will renumber the item numbers to the new sort?Is there a way to turn off the auto numbering without losing the numbers before doing the sort?Thanks in advanceChris

I am normally a Captivate user as an eLearning developer.Lately my company would like some Help Docs made. Luckily, I used FM in college for Technical Writing.The terminology used with FM can be overwhelming for someone who is "non-IT" such as myself. Can someone tell me the very basic differences of the various 'title terms' used with FrameMaker such as 'XML', 'DITA' ? What is the purpose and need of each? What type of user and project would want x version versus y version.-Any other clarifications you think of may be very helpful. Yes, I did Google this a few times and even took notes. I am still not sure I understand. Also when you download FM for the first time, it asks which mode to open in. Sorry, can't recall the 3 specific choices...if you feel you may know what I am speaking of, please share and explain the uses and purpose for these as well.

I need to put an ordinal date phrase in several positions in a document.  I have managed to be able to get it to put the phrase on the top of the first page where I then go along and cut and paste it where I need it.  But what I would like is to run the script and have it insert the text exactly where I want it to go in the document with out manually having to do it. Dear all, Imagine I have the following text: "Car XX was subject to test_1, test_2 and test_3. Car YY was only subject to text_1." I want to place footnotes to describe in details what test_1, test_2 and test_3 is. If I go and do it in Frame, I will get 4 footnotes (after test_1, test_2, test_3 and test_1), where footnote 1 and 4 are the same. How can I make sure that footnote 1 and 4 point to the same piece of text and have the same number i.e. "Car XX was subject to test_1(a), test_2(b) and test_3(c). Car YY was only subject to text_1(a)." Letters in brackets are footnote references. Any comments are more than welcome Thank You everyone Marek

I recently started work at a company who list parts in both alphabetical and numerical indices. In the past they have been manually splitting the Excel sheets and inserting them as graphics in the document. The concern here is of course that the moment that anything changes, the tables all have to be reformatted, saved and reimported as images.What I would like is to link an Excel spreadsheet into FrameMaker and either be able to format the table in FrameMaker still linked to the original spreadsheet or import only the contents and be able to reformat as necessary.The problem I continue to encounter is that all of the table, while it does import, does not import with repeating headers in the original format if it's pasted as special and doesn't display all of the table at all if I paste special from Excel.Anyone have any ideas for this one?

My main list is numbered: 1, 2, 3, etc. I want to add a sublist under step 2: a, b, c, etc. I have a feeling that I will have to create a new paragraph style, and I tried to do that, but I'm not sure how to do make letters instead of numbers in the paragraph designer window or how to start at "a" instead of "4".

Today, I replaced my hard disk. so I had to reinstall Technical Communication Suite5.Before reinstalling, I had no problem in using 'save as review pdf' function of FM12.But, after reinstalling in my new hard disk, I can not use  'save as review pdf' function of FM12 any more.https://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-4333431-184172/Greyedout.png   Please let me know what makes 'Save as Review PDF' function disabled(gray-out).

Hi, all.I am outputting HTML Help from Framemaker 2015. When a numbered or bulleted item wraps to a second line in the FM file, the second line indents under the first correctly.In the .chm output file, the second line wraps to an indent point that is far to the right of the point where it should indent.Why aren't the indent settings carried into the .chm? How can I fix this?Thank you very much.

My computer (win7, 64) was just re-imaged. I reinstalled FrameMaker 12. I now have Acrobat DC (rather than X, which I'd used previously). I now can't Save as PDF. How do I fix this?

(Using Unstructured FM 11 in Windows 7.)I have 30 years of legacy FM files with conditional text reflecting 30 years of company growth. When there were a few differences between models, this was fine. But as things grew, more and more conditions grew. Each file is looking more like a file folder, instead of a stand-alone file; some files have no unconditional text in them other than the title. When I turn on "show all" and "show conditions indicator," I get a rainbow. There are approximately 40 various conditions in our main system now, such that updating them is a nightmare.I'm trying to get a good idea on some "best practices," so that any newly created manuals don't fall into this pattern. -- And perhaps I can figure a way to dismantle the still-live legacy documents.And, no, we are no where close to being able to move to structures XML. Mainly I need to know how I can prevent FrameMaker from using the default stylesheets located in the path below:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker12\Structure\xml\S1000D\xsltAnd instead I need FrameMaker to utilize stylesheets and a BREX which I specify and which are provided to me by the Army in the link below: https://www.logsa.army.mil/mil40051/S1000D.cfmI would be tremendously grateful if a fellow Framer out there can visit the link above and click on the download link labeled, "View Army S1000D Stylesheets " and try mounting these Army stylesheets and BREX and let me know if they work or do not work in FrameMaker 12.  If they do indeed work in FrameMaker 12 where in the S1000D GUI do I have the ability to select a  MAIN.xsl file which contains links to all the other XSL stylesheets?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I have a 3 column document. A large table that wraps into each column continuous flow. Tops of the table line up across columns. The bottom of the table lines do not they are different heights. Is there a setting to align the top and bottom baselines of the table?
