FrameMaker

I recently installed and started using FrameMaker 12 on a Windows 7 Enterprise machine. This FrameMaker 12 version is subscription-based. I have had an intermittent problem with the application freezing on start-up when it reaches the Localization screen (see below). I was told to open the application from the start menu, and that seemed to help. Unfortunately, I tried opening it from the start menu recently, and it stuck on this same screen. I have tried the following solutions that were mentioned in the Community regarding similar situations: upgraded to FrameMaker 12.0.4, renamed the FrameMaker 12 folder, renamed the Linguistics folders, and changed the default printer to Adobe PDF. None of these have corrected the issue. The only thing that seems to work is to open a second instance of the program, and then the applicatin opens up while the first instance is still hanging. Does anyone have any other ideas on what I should try?Thanks,Allon

How do i open a .sgm file with FrameMaker?

"exciting" times ahead as I wait for our support team to finish delivering software for my new laptop … so far, it has Acrobat X Pro (installed) and the possibility of installing Acrobat DC from the Creative Cloud. I ordered a FrameMaker 12 licence a year ago, which we may or may not now be on the point of installing.Assuming I get past the hurdle of not installing PDF Creator with FM, should I stick with Acrobat X or go ahead and install Acrobat DC?Thanks in advance for advice here.

I am importing full pages of graphics. Is there a way to set the settings to be the same for each one? The size (%), placement? Also, some of the graphics are more than one page. Can it be set up that each flows onto a new page, rather than having to import each page separately?

Hello guys:I´ve tried this using FM 10 and FM 11 (unstructured), and it fails in both versions. The PgfFmt "Body" is shown as modified in FM (asterisk) but the Paragraph Designer shows the old Start property.I need to update the "Start" PgfFmt property. I have a client's book file (FM 12) that has had it's individual files renamed and now the TOC icon is no longer the different color marking it as a TOC and it does not show up in the box to regenerate in the update book dialog box. Is there a way to re-mark it to designate it as a TOC?I had this problem some time ago and IIRC I used the file as a "Template" but I can't remember the steps and when I look it up in the Adobe "Using FrameMaker" it is a little too vague on the exact steps to take (see below):To use a template or an existing generated file in a new book file, add it to the book as a generated file. Then put the existing file in the folder that contains the book file, using the name that appears in the book window.The first sentence says to "Add a template to the book as a generated file". How do you tell it to add the file as a generated file?Thanks in advance!Chris

How to export the EDD file from the FM file?

I've been using Framemaker 2015 for over a month now, and almost everyday for various reasons it crashes. I have both automatic save every 2 minutes plus automatic backup on save (I lost two hours of work recently so I'm trying for maximum protection). I'm on Windows 7 on a 64 bit system--and all resides on my computer. There doesn't seem to be any common function I was doing at each time. Each time was different to the point where the last crash I think I was just clicking the mouse. Any ideas? I checked for updates, and it indicated that I have the latest.Pam Harper

Hi,I was wondering if any of you have ever encountered this when creating a PDF from a FrameMaker book. One of my chapter title defaults to a subheading of another section in the previous chapter and I do not know why.  I checked the markers in FrameMaker and I can not see anything that would render it that way. Does anyone know why this is happening and what can I do to fix it?

Document to document cross reference links do not work when saved to PDF?

Any clues, or resources, on how to generate conditional output in Framemaker 2015?I have read the users guide (which is typically Adobe minimalist in content) and watched the brief video on the subject and still can't work it out.Unfortunately there aren't any worked up examples so I can't even work it out from that.The problem I have is in configuring the Dynamic filter output when generating published content (Responsive HTML) to use multiple filters.Whatever I have tried produces weird results with some filters filtering out something the other filter is supposed to do and others doing nothing at all in combination.Anyone have any tips?

There seems to be no facility to reverse the order of the page numbers when creating long Arabic & Hebrew documents and where the pages are to be attached to the end of a series of normal Left to Right pages.I had hoped this would be an automatic feature - For Frames 8 - 12 in Arabic  I have had to save the document in Mif and run a VERY complex program which extracts the folio frames and places the folio frames onto the body pages which lets me then reverse the page number order by hand.BobMessage was edited by: Bob Wallace to change RTL to LTR

hello, i have defined a variable as caution icon. <FontAwsomeBigRed>\t<Bold>CAUTION\tIt would be great if i could apply it automatically to the caution paragraph like the numbering. HI am creting topics in DITA 1.3 framemaker. AM changing fonts in master page and clicking on update all. When i reopen the file next time the previous which i have applied does not appear any more.

When connecting text frames in a FrameMaker 11 document converted to FM12, I encountered the following error message: "This connection is not possible. You may be trying to connect two text frames that would result in a circular text flow, or you may be trying to connect to a PostScript Code text flow."Can you suggest a workaround to identify and resolve this conflict? Since we've upgraded to Adobe Acrobat DC, I'm not able to create a pdf from Framemaker 11. Message says the document does not pass PDF/x-3:2002 compliance checks. The notepad shows a list stating annotations were found inside bleedbox, trimbox or artbox and lists out the pages. Am not sure what those annotations are.

I bought a subscription to Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2015, and downloaded it. When I opened FrameMaker 13, I discovered that it does not appear to support structured authoring. Does the subscription version of Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2015 leave the structured authoring features out of FrameMaker 13?

Instead of comparing all book components and creating CMP files, it seems to only compare the structure of the book itself and it even doesn't create the bookCMP file. My company is currently using FrameMaker 11 with WebWorks ePublisher 2013.2 to generate context-sensitive Microsoft HTML Help (CHM). ePublisher makes it very easy to customize the global appearance of each page. For example, we have a product banner in the header, and company logo, copyright notice and contact info in the footer. We also have external resource files that contain context-sensitive help IDs (in combination with Topic Alias markers in the FM source files).We are evaluating the FrameMaker 12 trial to see if it can replace FM11+ePublisher.Although we are able to generate a CHM successfully in FM12, the customization options appear to be very limited, and it is not clear how to generate context-sensitive help. Is it possible to customize the Microsoft HTML Help template/layout/theme? FM12 provides many options for the Responsive HTML5 format, but not Microsoft HTML Help. I don't mind modifying template files outside of FM12, if necessary, but I need someone to point me in th
