I have been printing a book successfully for weeks now, and today did an edit to one chapter in the book. Now when I save the book as PDF, I get this in the log:%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: Text ]%%Stack:/Body/T-mark-%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%I thought I fixed it because it was originally producing a "view only file" message (for the one chapter that I changed) while generating. I renamed the file, turn the lock on and off, and don't get the view only message, but still no PDF, either save-as-pdf of the individual chapter or the whole book. Can anyone help? I've never encountered this.Thanks in advance.Jim

My fingers seem to remember this as a shortcut for moving round tables (move down to cell below) … but while t,m,n and t,m,p are still enabled for next and previous, 'up' and 'down' seem to have disappeared. Is there anything a mere user can do about this?This is in FM 10; if the request approved in July ever comes to fruition, I could be moving to FM 12 Real Soon Now, and even getting Admin rights so I can cautiously make tweaks.

We are using Framemaker 12, and there is a need to create hotspots withing troubleshooting flowcharts that are contained in it, our biggest question is what is the easiest way to make this work, and will the hotspot carry over into a PDF document once we create it.Thanks,David

Hi all,I'm beginning to dig into FM12 multi-channel publishing. I have stripped down my unstructured template to a more minimalist model in order to flex better to multiple outputs. My current document template has several ANSI-based alert styles (Danger, Warning, etc.) that reference heading images in the reference pages. These heading images do not show up when I publish to HTML5. The header images are important to these styles, but I am loathe to add them manually to each instance, obviously. Is it possible to call reference page images when publishing to HTML 5, or should I change my styles? I know that this will not be an issue when I to migrate to XML, but I'm hoping to find a quick fix in the meantime. I suspect that if there is an unstructured solution to this, it's hiding in the style mapping settings.Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi all,with FM 12 (but already in FM 😎 I see the character formatting for a conditional text to be continued into and up to the end of the next condition (directly following), although the first condition does not apply here any more.This seems to happen only if more than one time in a sentence this constellation "a second conditional text follows directly after a first one" occurs.The result is a mixed color for the following text and also e.g. underline/strikethrough are both active.And: This does never happen to the first occurence, only with the latter ones in the same sentence.After putting a space only once between a "Condition end" indicator and the following "Condition start" indicator, this behaviour may then disappear in all occurences.I would like to know if there is another way to have the conditions displayed correctly -- inserting spaces everywhere between conditions as a preventive measure and only for formatting reasons does not seem to be a good choice.Best - T

since some versions ago (may be from 9), when you save a mif file as fm you will save a copy of the file, but the open mif file remains the same, a mif file with .mif extension.Is it a bug or a special setting I can change somewhere?

How do I find original source files for an XML-generated online help system created in FM12? What are POM files?I must take over from previous tech writer to fix the files and regenerate them and I haven't a clue how to do it in FM 12.I've created online help in the past, using RoboHELP without any coding.HELP PLEASE. When a table row is deleted, there is no change bar indication. Does anyone have workarounds for that?It seems like revision management in FrameMaker is not as full-featured as one would like. Any tips on revision management in FrameMaker would be welcome.

We just upgraded from FM8 to FM12 on Windows. I was hoping that by now, there would be an easy way to change the default colors for condition tags. I can't find a way to do this. I happen to hate the bright green used for inserted text and would like it changed in all documents for all time. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

Why is FMv12 not handling my font callout the same as FMv7?Running FMv12 (and v7) on Win7 pc.Using Wingdings and Symbol font families for Bullet Types in an Unnumbered List.The bullet symbol is changeable via an Attribute setting in Structure and Context Rules in the EDD.My file works fine in FMv7, to include changing the bullet to a chevron, asterisk, etc.However, in FMv12, the very same file does not show the correct symbol, even for a regular bullet, which is using the Symbol font. The symbol it shows will change with each attribute value, but the symbol is never the correct one.Closing the file, Save/Yes or Save/No, and then open again in FMv7, and it all works correctly.Why is FMv12 not handling my font callouts the same as FMv7?Thanks,Dave

Installed FMv9 after installing FMv7.On file server, v7 files now show v9 Icon.When doubleclicking v7 files, they open in v9.When right clicking v7 file, to Open With, v7 is not listed as an option. If I Browse to v7.exe and select it, the Open With dialog still does not show v7.We have to abort Open With, start FMv7, and then drag v7 file onto FM program window. Or, in FMv7 program, do File Menu > Open and navigate to v7 file.What happened to the File Association to FM v7? And why can we not open v7 files via Open With?Thanks,Dave

Hello all,I am developing a structured app in which I need to split my FM file into a number of separate XML output files. Using xsl:result-document works fine outside of FM, but when using the same XSL from inside FM there are no result documents. I tried to run this on a network drive and on a local drive, but that does not seem to make a difference. I did switch the default XSLT processor in the maker.ini file to use the Saxon XSL 2 processor, so that cannot be the problem. I am guessing it has something to do with the Windows privileges in creating new files but how can those be different for the program when it creates a new file and the same program running an XSLT processor that creates a new file.If anyone has used xsl:result-document succesfully in the postprocessing of FM, let me know what the trick was.Jang

Is it possible to install Technical Communications Suite (TCS) 5 while retaining the TCS4 applications? I need to run both Robohelp 10 and 11, and FrameMaker 11 and 12 in support of team members who cannot upgrade yet due to project timelines. I have FrameMaker 7 docs that I'm now editing in FrameMaker 9 (9.0.4). I need to wipe out some old variables and update some definitions. When a select a user variable in the Variables list and click the Edit button, in the Add/Edit Variable box, the Name box is blank (or has a single invisible character highlighted).When I try to do the same thing with a system variable, such as Table Sheet (or any other one), the Edit System Variable box appears but the Name field always displays "Page Count" -- not whatever variable was selected.It seems there's some corruption or problem with variables in this document. Could this be a character set problem? Some variables were defined long ago with German text. The Table Sheet variable is defined as "(Abschnitt <$tblsheetnum> von <$tblsheetcount>)" for example.I applied all FrameMaker 9 updates today, and this behavior hasn't changed. We are using Framemaker 12 version 12.0.3.424, it tells me it is the latest patch level, and the issue we are having is that it won't either save as or print to PDF, both options are failing, they start up and then go to a certain point and come up as "not responding" and then just stops. I have managed to get a postscript file on two occasions that got 141 pages out of 1400+. I have gone through a bunch of the threads here and made sure that I have changed Adobe PDF printer to the default and deselected the box about using the specific fonts, still nothing. We are also using Adobe Acrobat XI Standard, and that is now up to the latest patch level as well. I am running out of things to try in order to get this full book put together and ready for delivery. If anyone has any additional things to try that would be great. One thing I feel might be an issue is that some of the files seem to be using a different font, "Times" vs. "Times New Roman", Frame automatically substitutes it, so was

If it is possible then what objects or functions should I use to do this? I am working in FM 11 and have crashed FM a few times. What is the best way to use the recovery files and save them as the normal file? Then should I filter an explorer window for "recovery" so FM won't keep asking me if I want to use older recovery files? Thanks for your help.

Can I disable this annoying attribute pop-up menu that appears whenever I press CTRL and the mouse cursor happens to be over an element tag?This has disrupted my work more often than I care to count, and I'm tired of hitting CTRL+C or X only to later CTRL+V a weird empty table where I wanted to paste text. I don't want to have to pay attention to where my mouse cursor is every time I want to copy or cut something.
