I am working on a book with multiple chapters. Within each chapter, I have heading styles that use auto numbering (Heading 1 shows 1.1, 1.2, etc.; Heading 2 is 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc.; Heading 3 is 1.1.1.1, 1.1.1.2, etc). These numbers show up fine in the chapters, but I can't seem to get them to show up in the generated TOC. I have tried adding <$chapnum>.<$sectionnum>.<$subsectionnum> to the TOC reference page, but that only seems to show the TOC chapter number, rather that the chapter the heading is actually in. I tried auto numbering in the TOC, but that didn't work either. Is there any way to show numbering from chapters in the TOC?This is how it looks now:Lab 3: Adding Redundancy to a Component Purpose ...........................................7 - 1 Functional Goals.............................. 7 - 1 Setup ..............................................7 - 1 Code Files for this Lab...................... 7 - 2This is how I want it to look:Lab
I am trying to search for the occurrence of a "(" within a text string - unfortunately my code is reported as incorrect.I extract the text correctly but cannot create the search statement correctly:var mylistpgftext = pgf.GetText (Constants.FTI_String) for (var i=0; i < mylistpgftext.length; i++) { var mylistitem = mylistpgftext.sdata var mybracketpos = mylistitem.search(/(/i) --------------error line-----------------&nbs
Hi,I am using FDK 12.0 on Windows (using Visual Studio 2012) to make some changes in a FrameMaker document programmatically. I have never used this or any other Adobe API before and am somewhat struggling with the concepts. Primarily I am using the sample programs, coming along with the FDK to guide me.Now, I want to open and parse an XML file, whose content I will use later to manipulate the texts in a FrameMaker document. In .NET framework there are several classes (XMLReader, XMLTextReader etc.) to read and parse XML files easily. However, it seems I cannot use these Common Language Runtime classes because, apparently, a FDK plug-in needs to be a) C program and b) should not use CLR. In view that, can anyone please indicate if there are any suitable set of functions in FDK itself for parsing an XML file. Otherwise, is there any pure C based XML parser I can use? Some actual sample will be very helpful. Thanks in advance,Joydeep[Discussion moved by moderator]
Am I the only one who hates using the character palette in FM? I find it more time-consuming (unless the character I want is at the top and it just happens to default to my current font) and its hard to read. Any tips on how to quickly locate what you want in the palette?
Hi, I am looking for a Linux solution with FrameMaker. Any information on availability welcome. Thanks.
Hi guys,Does anyone happen to know if a FrameMaker server license is required to support a WebWorks Automap HTML generation process? Or is a single-user license acceptable (so long as only one user is accessing the machine). My understanding is that WebWorks simply opens and closes FrameMaker files and does not use any FrameMaker functions to produce its content. I've checked with WebWorks on this, but ultimately it's any potential Adobe licensing restriction that I'm concerned with. We're currently using unstructured Frame, so much of our content could only be generated by having FrameMaker and WebWorks installed on the same workstation or VM.Thanks in advance.
I have created a page in Framemaker 11 with Conditional Text. Every time I switch between my conditions, a blank page is created. This page does not go away when I save or update the file. It only gets removed if I delete the extra page. Is there anything that would be causing this page to stick around?
Does Framemaker support these languages Khmer, Burmese and Sinhala?
I am trying to install Framemaker 11 on a Windows 7 virtual machine, but am getting an error saying the version of framemaker is invalid (software verification failure)
Hi,I am using FDK 12.0 on Windows (using Visual Studio 2012) to make some changes in a FrameMaker document programmatically. I have never used this or any other Adobe API before and am somewhat struggling with the concepts. Primarily I am using the sample programs, coming along with the FDK to guide me. My objective is to get "all the text present in a specific body page" of a FrameMaker document. It seems text may be placed under different objects, some of which may span across pages (e.g. a paragraph object FO_PGF). So, what should be the simplest logic of finding this? Thanks in advance,Joydeep
I have inherited a Frame 8 book with many files, is there a way to update all of the files to Frame 11 in just a few steps? Could this be done in ExtendScript?
Hi-I have a user's manual with a small amount of conditionalized content; I need two pdf manuals in the end. Each manual needs it's own TOC and cover (title page), as well as it's own content. How do I set up my book and files to make this happen? Thanks!
I am using Frame 11. I have conditional watermarks on master pages. They work well on body pages with text or tables. On the body pages that have imported Illustrator graphics, the watermarks do not show. They appear, but are hidden behind the graphics. I cannot get them to appear in front of the graphics that are imported into the body pages.
HelloWe have decided to start using structured Framemaker and are now looking forstandard DTD/Ditas/Styles. Are such available, either for free or forsale? Any recommendation is welcome. We want to avoid to invent the wheel again, there must be a lot of good example outthere already. Our preferences are that the documents will be managed through Sharepoint, publishedin HTML5. There may be some requirement for translation support. Thanks in advance
When I try to import comments (File > Import > PDF comments), I get the error "Corrupt tag structure!". Is there any way to fix this? Here is the whole long story:1. I made a set of PDFs (Acrobat Pro X) from FM 12 documents for Shared Review. These were NOT tagged PDFs, because Shared Review doesn't seem to like them.2. I sent them out for shared review and collected comments.3. I saved the review copies as archive, to consolidate the comments.4. I added tags (Tools > Accessibility > Add Tags to Documents).5. Opened the original FM document, imported PDF comments, got error. Are Shared Review and Import PDF Comments incompatible? Does Import PDF Comments not work if you add tags later? Something else? Any help is appreciated.
I have a copy of FrameMaker 7.0 (yes, it's old) that I am trying to load on my Win 7 computer. I cannot seem to get it to load. It comes up with the AutoPlay screen, allows me to select the option I want, I get the busy icon for a few moments, and then it quits. I have been able to load this same disk onto another Win 7 computer, so I know it is not a compatibility issue. I am almost wondering if they are designed to not work after 10 years. Any ideas? Thanks.
I am moving toward data heavy websites (the more data the better) and wondering if FM 12 will work for creating the database and the site. Obviously I am new to FM but I have been reading the help files and various white papers but there is not much info on this so I am wondering if my assumption is incorrect. Can I create interactive forms in FM? Webpages that run from a database created in FM? Will web pages created in FM be bulky with extra unnecessary code or will they be lean? I have read about FM being able to export in HTML5 but I wonder what the actual quality and functionality of the resulting pages/website/mobile site. Your opinions are welcome.
My book saves to pdf and displays just fine.Publish to ePub produces an epub with several chapters out of order. In the Publish pod, select SettingsIf the Output Style is selected, this is what appearsWHERE do these styles come from?Note on the left are the paragraph tags from the current document. Where do I find the style choices from the "Output Style" pick box? How do I modify them?P.S. THIS is exactly why I thought I had to use structured Framemaker because I thought that was the only way to tell Frame how to connect.P.P.S. If there’s somewhere to go to read details about how to use Framemaker 12’s Publish options, please provide a link.
hi. I am learning FM12. I learned how to create a chapter title with numbering for the first chapter by creating this new format C:Chapter <$chapnum>This formatted the first chapter correctly as Chapter 1. However, I am not sure how to apply incremental numbering for chapter 2, etc. When I attempted to apply my newly created chapter format (which i named Chapter Title) to my second chapter, it numbered it as Chapter 1. What am I missing here? Thanks,
I'm using <$paratext[H1_Heading1]> on master page, but I see the presence of <$chaptertitlename> in the list of variables. If I insert the variable I get the filename of the current file. So how does the variable get updated? Also, how does Frame know what is a chapter? Or section or subsection?Using Frame 12.
Hello,I have a client asking the following question, and I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this issue with FrameMaker 12.FrameMaker 12 seems to be deleting files from their network drive during the Update Book function, not just the file itself, but the backup version too.FrameMaker 10 files had been opened and re-saved as FrameMaker 12. Then, in a subsequent update of the book file, FM reported that it could not find a certain file, and the icon for that file in the book file turned into a question mark. On inspection of the folder that should contain the file, the file was gone, as was the .backup.fm version of the file. It is my assumption that this problem occurred during a book update, although it is remotely possible that the problem occurred while saving the files from Frame 10 to Frame 12.Are you aware of any similar problems being reported, or if there are any issues of use of FrameMaker with networked drives? What other information would you might need to hel
In making an EDD for a book where one file might be a chapter (or appendix), is theElement (Container): ChapterValid as the highest-level element?or is only the whole book (FrameBook) valid as the highest-level element?Using Frame 12.[Discussion moved by moderator]
Is it possible to define the width of columns in a format for tables in FM 11 in order to change all tables in a file rather than to have to go through the painstaking task of setting each value for each column of each table...
Hi,I've downloaded the trial version of Framemaker 12 to try it out with DITA documents, but I can't seem to find how to create a new XML file!Apparently you go to File / New / XML, but I don't have that option, only Document or BookIs this because it is limited in the trial version, or do I need to set up the environment differently to access XML files? or do I need to create a Schema first then create a document from that schema? Many thanksJohn
We are required to add check-boxes to every instruction in our procedures in the installation manual. While we have found a way to add the check-box to the heading style in FrameMaker, we need a script to implement this change throughout the manual. Please share any script that can be used to automate this process. Thanks.
