FrameMaker

I have converted all Framemaker v10 documents to v11 by opening and saving. However when opening the Book v11 for these documents and applying the 'clear all change bars' option a book error log message advises that the documents cannot be opened as they are in a previous version! When performing the same function on the individual documents outside of the Book this works fine. But unable to clear all change bars within a book when selecting all the files in one go. Is there a bug with Books in v11?

I inherited a book done in FM 8 that looks correctly structured and formatted. This book has about 25 chapters, and I need to add new chapters wtihin the existing sequence. On the Reference Page, the ChapterTitle tag is associated with the "First" master page. I can't find a way to create a new section starting with the ChapterTitle tag, which doesn't throw off all the other master-page assignments. It's tedious going through the whole manual to reassign all the chapter opening pages, and then finding and reassigning all the pages that are not chapter opening pages, which have been bumped to the "First" master page. I think the "First" assignment should move with the ChapterTitle tag, and it should also move with a page that it has already been assigned to. Is there a way to make the assignments stick to the pages that already have them?

Hello,I have been able to create an unattended installer for the Adobe Technical Communications Suite 4 using the AAMEE v3.1.However, I am having difficulty performing an unattended uninstallation for the same.The uninstall string in the registry is :"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core\PDApp.exe" --appletID="DWA_UI" --appletVersion="2.0" --mode="Uninstall" --mediaSignature="{A9A31111-475C-403B-A5D1-0E79748B723F}"The product uninstalls successfully with this command but in full GUI.So far I've been quite reluctant to find the silent switch to PDApp.exe.I have the following questions :1. Is there a silent switch to PDApp.exe, that could be used to uninstall TCS 4 ?2. Can we create a silent uninstaller for TCS 4 using AAMEE, just as we created a silent installer ?3. If none of the above mentioned is possible, is there a workaround ?Please help. Any lead would be helpful to get to the solution.Thanks in advance.

FM 11I know that <codeblock> is designed to represent lines of program code and that line endings and spaces must be preserved. I need to take a few hundred linked graphics in anchored frames that have FrameMaker callouts,save them as PNG files with the callouts embedded (yes, I know I won't be able to edit the callouts later) using different names (or another location), and relink to the new graphics. Doing this one by one is doable, but suboptimal.I'm not sure if I need a script, some other tool, or if there is some easy way I am missing. Anyone else have to do this and can give me a pointer or two?Thanks,Marc

I am fairly a newbie both at FrameMaker 11 and XML, but have just dived into the deep end with Structured FrameMaker to produce a DocBook document. FrameMaker's DocBook structured applications seem to use the DocBook 4.1 DTD, and my documents are 4.5 (well, they were 5.0, but FrameMaker can't handle that at all, apparently, so I converted them to 4.5). Naturally, I get lots of parsing errors when I open a file. I'll bet most or  all of those errors will go away if I can get FrameMaker to use the 4.5 DTD. Is that possible? How?Do I download all of the 4.5 files and change some value to point  FrameMaker to them for each 4.5 document? Like I said...newbie.I am gathering that I could modify the DTD (or EDD? I don't have my head entirely around the relationship yet) to add elements and attributes, but that seems the hard way to go if there is any chance of simply pointing to the 4.5 DTD.help!thanks.Larry the O

I've been back in the Word world for the past couple of years. I have been trying to insert a blank page in FrameMaker using Special > Page Break and get no result. I took a look and checked the help and can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas? In the past I was using version 5 or 6 and am now using version 11 - Unstructured.  It seems so simple to add a blank page but it isn't working like I remember from the past.  I've been away from Framemaker for about four years.  

While publishing a unstructured framemaker document to pdf, the Header and footer is getting in the final published document. Please provide a solution.

Each table contains 10 rows. I applied the conditional tags to the first table as follows:- Product_A tag is applied to the entire table- Audience_Developers is applied to to one row. I'm trying to get FM 10 working on my new computer, but after installation when I go to open the program I get the "Licensing for this product has expired" message. I downloaded the TCS3Update.zip patch the website recommended to fix this, but when I try to run the patch I get a "Update not applicable" error message. I'd like to download the trial version of TCS4 and start trialling it, to produce HMTL5 output for the next version of our software, prior to purchasing in the new year.I currently have RoboHelp x5 that I will be using to maintain our existing CHM help systems - or maybe I can also use RoboHelp 10 to do this?Will installing RoboHelp 10 with TCS4 effect my current install of x5?Thanks,Ken

I would like to create graphs and pie charts in Framemaker. Does anyone know if FM can do this - the same way you can use data tables in Excel to create charts and graphs.If FM doesn't have this functionality in-built, then is there a plugin available that will allow me to do this?

Can anyone who has dealth with structured documents using external DTDs/Schemas tell me if they've had this similar problem? Our whole department just recently got FrameMaker11, and uninstalled our FrameMaker10s. Using the computers and the same DTDs we're experiencing crashes ... frequently. Is there something we're doing or not doing? Appreciate the help.

Hello,I have a running header in my document that picks up the ChapterTitle. For one particular chapter title, there is a superscript applied to one of the numbers in the ChapterTitle. The superscript doesn't come through on the running header. I cannot figure out a way to get the character style changed just for that specific number of the running header other than making the running header a completely manual entry in the Master view, but that isn't ideal. I borrowed and modified a skip I found here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4808804 with code borrowed from elsewhere.I noticed that it seems to run fine, but it skips any word that appears right before a variable. The point of the script is to find any text using an italic override or bold override, and replace the override with the appropriate character format from the catalog.Can someone tell me why the code below skips words before a variable? When I installed FrameMaker 11, it uninstalled my Acrobat Pro 8 without asking. Now I get the error message "Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate."Is there a workaround for this? I called tech support and they could not help.

FM 10, fully patched, Windows 7 …I have a book containing a dozen or so files which I prepared by adding MML tags to a Word source and saving out as text. They're all very much of a muchness, and most of them include a couple of referenced .eps graphics.Saving the book to .pdf threw up the message 'may happen with FM 6.0 or earlier', so for form's sake I ran Format > Optimise. This cleared things up, and generated a .pdf with all the book content but a sniffy message about just one of the files. When I save that specific file I get a moral/societal observation "File has Bad Type". What does this mean, and what can I do to reform the type in question?

Can an overline be extended to the right margin without placing the tab mark there?

I have several books located in a system directory that contain several images.  Some images are repeated in the books so, I have one location (another system directory) where I import them  as required into each of the books.  I have been asked to move these books from the system directory to my local hardrive.   I have copied all the books, image files etc, exactly as they were in the system directory into the new location on my hardrive.  When I open the books in the new location on my hardrive, FrameMaker cannot locate these images and I get a  Missing File error and dialog screen .   When I import the images I always select Copy into document -   I am wondering why FrameMaker cannot find the image even though the directory structure has been copied exactly and also because I copied the image - I did not reference them?    I have attached a screen capture of the Missing File error I am getting.

We have MIF documents created with pre-Unicode FrameMaker versions that contain text produced with an <Accent> tag. (For instance, .<Accent 52>, which represents ă). Some (or perhaps all) of these characters are not displaying in FM11. This could be because we are missing some fonts, but I'm not sure. Were these numbers built into FrameMaker, or were they set by the authors of the document? If they were built into FrameMaker, is there a chart somewhere that would help us make a crosswalk?

I've built a Frame book (Frame 10) with multiple files from a variety of books. The files have text insets and cross references within and across chapters. When I go to set the numbering at the book level - as soon as I click Set on the numbering dialog - Frame crashes and I get an Internal Error 10024, 6382424, 6369627, 6383085. I'm attaching a screen shot.I've take the files out of the book and added them back in. These files worked fine in the original books I copied them from. I can't get the book to number correctly. Please help.

I need to parse through anchored frames and return the paragraph tag that it is located it. I can't seem to find a property that returns the paragraph tag. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm working in unstructured Frame 11 in Win7.I'm getting an Unavailable Fonts error message for a document I've worked on very recently. Hello,I am developing a structured application for MIL-STD-40051, using the MIL-STD-2361 V4.12 DTD. The cross-reference element <xref> has 10 different Id Reference attributes. Each one is for a cross-reference to a specific element. For example @taskid for a step or test, @figid for a figure, @tableid for a table, etc.FrameMaker uses the first Id Reference it finds in the EDD for <xref>. I found this out by changing the order.Is there any way to get FrameMaker to use a specific Id Reference depending on the element being cross-referenced? I have been trying to find something in the r/w rules to do this. No luck.Regards,Stan
