I have found it helpful to trigger masterpage usage by defining paragraph types, defining them and the associated masterpage in the reference page map and simply adding a small text box to the page with the required paragraph inserted. Works like a dream, especially for landscape pages. Can someone tell me why this is a bad practice and suggest a better one? 🙂
Here is the output in HRML5Note on the "a" and "b" steps, the first line is indented and not flush. Also, note on the "1" and "2" steps, the first line is flush with the remaining lines in the step. The goal is to have the text in the "a" ad "b" steps flush for all lines of text. Need some imput on how to resolve this issue. Below is style mapping from the CSS file: p.Step:Sub1 { display: list-item; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: outside margin-left:54pt; margin-right:0.000pt; text-align:"."right;
I've spun my wheels a bunch on trying to fix white line artifacts in PDF outputs from FM. From what I've experienced, FM doesn't like when you combined image types. So if you have a raster graphic, add text callouts in a program like Illustrator, export as vector (e.g. SVG), the image in the outputted PDF will have white line artifacts. If you use a purely vector graphic, it seems to not get the artifacts as often. My images all have detailed colors and shading, which means raster is the best format. But the images also have text callouts. It would be ideal to have the text and callout lines as vector and the images as raster. But FM glitches out with this combination. This seems also to be a universal issue across Adobe products, as I've seen threads where people using InDesign also have glitchy artifacts on vector / raster combination graphics. The best method I've found is to export as a high res JPG. The callout lines and text are
I had signed up for this webinar but was prevented from logging in. Was it recorded and, if so, can I get a link? The Adobe Events / Technical Communication site isn't showing previous webinars. ETA: The full title was "3 Content Pillars Every Organization Needs To Be Future-ready"
I'm trying to add a long URL to a bibliography entry. I'd like Frame to just accept what I type without adding hyphenation, space between words, etc. I've tried every option I can think of, em -spaces, etc. No luck.
Hi, I'm having some issues with inserting images into FrameMaker. The default behavior when I click Insert > Image is that the image is blown up to fill the full width of the page. However, my images also contain text callouts, and I don't want FM to autoscale the images because it messes up my text size so that it's inconsistent across images. The best workaround I've found is, in my graphics programs (Adobe Illustrator and SolidWorks Composer), to control the image export so the image has exactly the width of an 8.5 x 11 page. This way, FM's autoscaling behavior doesn't distort the text size. With Adobe Illustrator, when I export my JPG I'm checking the option "Use Artboard" which exports the image using the full 8.5 x 11 artboard white space. Then in FM I resize the graphics frame to crop out the extra vertical white space, as the image pastes in with white space of a full 8.5 x 11 page. An annoyance tho
Man I am on a big role this week!!! I should probably be paying you guys! In my generated Index, I currently have IOMTitleTOC as my paragraph tag for the title Index at the top. In other sections, I have Heading1First for each section heading, and all of those show up in my TOC. The IOMTileTOC disoplays in the TOC, too. However, when I create the PDF, the Index is not in the PDF. So, I changed the IOMTitleTOC to Heading1First. However, the Index itself is two-column and when I changed IOMTitleTOC to Heading1First, the Index title does not break across both columns. It only is displayed in the first column. Can you give me an idea how to make the Heading1First span both columns for the Index title? Thanks! Ken
Hi Smart FrameMaker People: I'm stuck. I have a student using the old chapter numbering: title numbers are defined with H:<n+> vs H:<$chapnum>, which I haven't encountered in years. All the chapters are starting with 1, even after telling the paragraphs to continue numbering from previous chapters in the book window. That used to work, right? So what am I forgetting? ~Barb
I have a requirement that bothers me very much, to extract the text layer of a .fm file. The condition is that Java, C/C++, python can be used. But I can't extract by opening framemaker.I tried to find some relevant Maven packages to extract, but unfortunately none of the relevant packages were found.
On every page of a new topic I have a right-aligned graphic that says TOP. I want to link this graphic to a TOC marker. I have tried to created every marker I can think of for the TOC and have also attempted to create the icon as a hotspot, but the Marker Name does not show up in the Hotspot text field when I select the TOC file. I just want the end user to be able to navigate back to the TOC by clicking on the icon that is on all topic (Heading1First) pages.
Hii, I want to parse the abc.fm file using java so anyone can please tell me which API use to parse the abc.fm file.
Sometimes when we open an XML-file from a book it will not open but generate a lot of errors. I found out that this was caused by the dtd. Some of the element names starting with an upper case are changed to lower case without any reason. For instance "Title" is changed to "title". We did not change the edd or the dtd! If we try to save the edd as a dtd (with the proper names such as "Title"), in the dtd the element name is changed to "title". To make it more strange, this happened only a few times the last couple of years. But is is realy annoying and costs us a lot of time.
If you copy or move something that was formatted with one tag and paste it in a place using a different tag, the pasted material retains the source formatting. This can be a real issue, especially if you're doing a bookwide Find & Replace with Paste from Clipboard of anything that is pasted anyplace that has a different tag applied to it than was present when you copied it. I don't know about you, but I get rather annoyed at having to make multiple passes in a book, first to change the information, then to apply default font to it. I was remembering this annoyance during today's demo of the beta for the next version of FM, so I thought I'd share the feature request I just put in. Vote if you think this is useful. https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-11735
The typing is suddenly very slow when using FM19 (15.0.8.979). It doesn't matter if I restart FM and create a new blank document, the typing still takes ages.I can't figure out how to get back to normal typing speed. FM20 on the same computer has no problems.Windows 10.
It's possible to get a report of all images contained in the FM document so we can have the list of images so I bring all the images in the new file? In this way I could avoid bringing each individual image into the new image file. Thank you in advance for your help!

I am in the process of designing a new template for academic work for The FrameMaker Templates Shop. I have a problem though. The template allows for generating lists of files and tables, and having these documents integrated in the TOC works. But when publishing to HTML5 it seems FrameMaker just doesn't generate HTML for the LOF (List of Files) and the LOT (List of Tables) even they appear in the TOC. I am not sure whether this is a fault of mine or whether it actually is a FrameMaker bug.I would greatly appreciate it, if somebody would download the template from here and run a Publish to HTML or help me check what seems to be wrong. The files are FrameMaker 2020 http://framemaker.dk/scientificpaper.zip
I have a document where the first topic in the TOC does not have a hyperlink. All of the other Heading1First topic listings have hyperlinks in FrameMaker, but the first topic doesn't. Ideas?
I want to do this: Find any cross-reference (or x-ref of particular format) Change format to another one defined: e.g. from "heading & chapter-page" to "heading & page". After finding a cross-reference I have a Text Range of that x-ref. But how to get to the x-ref object? IMHO there should be an object with propery XRefFmt aTextItems = oDoc.GetTextForRange(oTR, Constants.FTI_XRefBegin); is of no help here, as it just provides the text of the x-ref.
hi thereI am having trouble getting my page numbers in the Index to bold font. I have been able to do this previously by inserting <strong> before <$pagenum> on the reference page. I have checked that the character font is in the index file and is indeed set to bold. This is my first book since upgrading to FM19 so perhaps there is a different way to do this? Thansk in advancekeli
I wrote Bug 9622 back in 1/29/2021 for FM 2020. It has 2 conditional tags by default that should not be there. We are a shop that heavily use conditional tags. Having extra conditional tags is not acceptable so we have remained on FM 2019. This is the second time that the bug's status has moved from Open to another status (like maybe it is being worked on) and as of this morning I noticed it is now back to Open (I check every Monday morning). I was promised that this would be fixed for the next release so I also check weekly for any news on the next release. Can someone from Adobe please provide some kind of an answer of when this will be fixed and if in the next release, when that might be? After waiting nearly 1 and 1/2 years, I think we have been patient.thank you
I am unable to uninstall FrameMaker 2019 from my computer. There is no uninstaller application present in the Add or Remove Programs menu or the FM2019 Program Files folder.I am running Win10. Currently, I have no other Adobe applications installed. Is there a command line methord or a manual registry method that I can use?
Hi,Had to set up a multilevel book structure (two levels) in order to be able to add TOCs to each sub book (mini-TOCs won't work). Seems the book S&R does not work on sub books from top book, is that correct? In this case the target is S&R on attribute values, but I guess it is the same thing for other S&R operations if it does not work for attribute values.Structured FM 2020, fully updated, and *.fm files (no structured application from the mil authority, so cannot go the xml route).BR, Mats
I am attempting to create a PDF from several Framemaker book files. Framemaker version is 2015 (13.0.5.547). Each time I try to build the PDF, Framemaker pops up a window saying it has encountered a problem and will then abort the operation without any message to indicate where it occurred or why. Windows 7 (x64) event log consistently shows:Faulting application is Framemaker.exe version 13.0.5.547Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll version 10.0.40219.325Exception code: 0xc0000417Faulting module path: C:\windows\system32\MSVCR100.dllThis fault is occurs consistently each time I attempt to build the PDF using File > Save As PDF, and is preventing me from doing my job.Has anyone encountered this problem and what must be done to resolve it?
When converting (from MS Word) FrameMaker documents, Object Styles are a wonderful way to wrangle placed images. Currently I can use Find/Change to locate existing Object Styles, but I can't apply them by selecting an option in the Find/Change panel or by using the Copy Special option. If this would be helpful to you as well, please consider voting for FRMAKER-10827 at https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-10827 -Matt
