InDesign

So far I've managed to use a single InDesign document for both print and ebook versions of the same book. The differences are so far only in the frontmatter section and some parent page elements like page numbers, so I hide/show a "Print only" layer and "Ebook only" layer for those elements. Has worked great so far. But now I discovered that my "clever" approach to a divider between scenes (sometimes called a dinkus) wasn't so clever after all. Avoiding graphics for the ebook (they look terrible in sepia or dark mode), the author (my husband) and I decided to use a simple line. Paragraph rules are ignored in epub, and I was afraid that "___" (a series of underscore characters) might have a slight gap between the characters in some fonts used in e-readers and apps, so I used ten spaces styled as underlined, which looks like this:But apparently the epub export ignores paragraphs with only spaces, so my nice line disappeared! So my first question is: Do you think underscore char

Hello! I designed a book in Indesign, saving it in Cloud Document with no problems. Im currently backing up all the files on a local server but i cant download the main Indesign document, the downloading wheel keeps spinning until it says that couldnt be downloaded. The file itself is still working fine on Cloud Documents. Also tired saving it with the Save As feature but after doing that Indesign crashes and wont let me open the file that it saved. I need to locally back up the file. This is the error that displays when i try to open the file saved with the Save As feature:

Hi. Is anyone experiencing long delays when either moving or copying InDesign files on the Mac desktop? I'm running Ventura now but was seeing the same behaviour with Monterey which is a shame as I was hoping the OS upgrade might fix things. I'm running the latest InDesign v.18.0.It's kind of weird as it's not every ID file, it's quite random and happens with files I've opened directly from their folders, and with files that have been sent to me by an editor which I haven't yet worked on.I've tried all of the usual procedures for fixing finder issues - delete p.list, start up in safe mode and so on - but nothing makes this go away. A restart will sometimes improve things briefly but the issue always returns after a few files have been moved between directories.Any ideas out there? I can't find any references to this issue elsewhere.

Bonjour, je sais que le sujet a déjà été évoqué, mais les solutions proposées n'ont pas fonctionné chez moi. Je travaille sur un Macbook M3 pro, sous Sequoia 15.3.2.J'ai l'habitude de bouger ma fenêtre Indesign complète sur un second écran, mais depuis quelques temps je n'y parviens plus, les "boutons" de contrôle du haut ont disparu. Je suis obligée de faire flotter toutes les fenêtre et de les déplacer une à une, ce qui est très fastidieux et pas pratique du tout. J'ai réinitialisé les préférences, et renommé le dossier UXP en UXP.old dans la bibliothèque. Si quelqu'un a une solution miracle à me proposer, je suis preneuse... Got an issue today with InDesign (20.5) freezing indefinitely everytime the user adds a text file data source via Dynamic Data. Issue appears no matter what text file is used (even an empty one!). I've tried rebooting PC, resetting preferences for InDesign, updating and reinstalling InDesign, but all no effect. Issue not present on other machines either so I'm a bit lost here, any ideas would be much appreciated

What is happening here? I grouped it before I copied it. Is that the problem?

Thank you! I have recently completed a reflowable epub 3.0 through InDesign (the file was originally prepared for print publication which already happened) - stumbling through it mostly but I have used a combination of -InDesign paragraph style / space above/below / export tags for page breaks  -InDesign Object export options for Images -and dabbled into CSS code (with the help of the book and links from James Gifford mostly for front matter) The book contains over 30 images with captions (which I followed the rule of End of body paragraph / anchor for image / image / caption paragraph / nex text paragraph). I have selected for the images to be relative to text flow as far as size.  I have previewed the book with Calibre / Kindle as I was building it. The file passed through inspection and to be distributed via D2D (per clie

Buenas gente, necesito ayuda en este tema para hacer un trabajo, yo tengo 29.000 QR con datos variable y me dicen que quieren enumeración encima del QR, lo que pasa es que en mi mesa de trabajo son 203,3 x 250 mm y va con un troquel de 7 figuras verticales x 6 figuras horizontal y la enumeración tiene que ser correlativa pero en horizontal, eso significa que las primeras 6 figuras son del 1-6 PERO la fila de abajo empieza en 4201 -4206 Y LA FILA DE ABAJO 8401- 8406 Y ASI SON LAS 7 VECES, ¿Alguna idea de cómo lo podría hacer ? Adjunto imágenes para hacer una idea y lo único que falta es la enumeración porque he podido crear el QR y la imposición de las figuras

I hope someone here can help me with my font issue.I’ve been having ongoing problems with various Adobe Fonts in InDesign.Several fonts no longer load, even though they have been marked as “active” or “added” in the Adobe Fonts program for ages, and had been working perfectly until recently.With some fonts, individual font styles are even missing and no longer displayed.In some cases, I was able to work around the issue by additionally installing the fonts via the Adobe Fonts app.However, even then I encountered the same issue: certain fonts within a font family couldn’t be loaded. They were missing both in the Fonts app and in InDesign.By repeatedly quitting InDesign and Adobe Creative Cloud, I was sometimes able to get a font to activate again.Another issue is that activated fonts hang forever in the background window saying "Loading fonts", and nothing happens.Under these circumstances, I can't generate a PDF either, since InDesign tries to load the missing fonts in the backg

Ever since we moved to InDesign 2024, we've noticed that the Links Panel will often overflow with linked assets and cause the panel to become unusable.  To reproduce this, you first must have a lot of unique links in your document.Open the document and select one of the assets on the page, such as an image. The links panel will try to highlight the link, but it will get jumbled up and overflow with other links in the document.  I have attached a screenshot of what we're getting.Platform: MacOS: macOS Sonoma 14.4Indesign Version: 19.3Troubleshooting steps taken so far:Reinstalled InDesign 2024.Reset InDesign's preferences.Switched to a default workspace rather than a custom workspace.Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Thanks

Hello,I already said it in short in the subject box above.How do I PERMANENTLY turn off the ligatures option in the character men? I have to switch it off every time after (e.g.) typing st. I can switch it off but a few minutes later (when typing st again) it is active again in the character menu. Strange enough (working in a large document of 100's of pages) not everywhere this st-persistence exists.Any ideas?Thanks in advance for your help!

I would like to increase the stroke weight of all text across a manuscript.  Do I need to select the text on one page at a time to change it, or is there another way?  Is there a way to change all the text at once?  One page at a time may produce errors, and if I need to change it again may become laborious.  Any help would be appreciated.Thank you very much.Adam

I have placed text boxes in the parent pages. I am now trying to place text in the regular pages. I am placing text from a Word document (in the attached screenshot it's just filler, but it's from a Word document, not from InDesign itself). You can see the blue line where I built the text box in the parent page. Nevertheless, when I place text, it fills in everything within the margins, not within the text frame. The only solution I have found is to manually create text frames on the regular pages and then flow through those. But this is a bad option because if I need to change the margins, I have to go through and manually do it for every single text box. I have tried overriding, that doesn't work. I have tried placing directly into "page 8" in the screenshot, that works for the one page, but on the next page it exceeds the text box again. Can you please advise? Hi All, I generate XML from the content component tool. I want to to import this XML in Adobe InDesign. The InDesign output should be the samle like the PDF which is already published for public.I did the following steps, but not getting result as I expected 1. Created template in InDesign with all the stylesheets2. Imported DTD in InDesign3. Imported XML in InDesign4. Mapped Tags to Styles in InDesign (But same tag name given for many elements, so there is confustion here This document has lenghthy table with 5 column head Can someone help on this please. 

Good morning everyone,is it possible to include the section number in the cross-references? I can't find the option in the drop-down menu when I create the cross-reference format.

Is there a way to make the text flush left to the text box?I thought I could make the adjustment in Text Frame Options, but I cannot seem to find it.

Indesign works normally for some time but then it crashes when i do simple text editions (like adding space etc) or try to create new pages with automatic/manual linked text frames. I already uninstalled and reinstalled it, restarted my computer, created a new document and added text from 0, but it keeps happening. I sent tons of error reports. Don't know what to do anymore and i have an urgent work to deliver. I don't classify these as true problems that impact my productivity or ability to deliver product, but they are things that I have never experienced before (despite profile status I have been using for many years). Reasonably certain this has occured on two different machines so I am not inclined to think its anything to do with corrupt preferences etc. The most persistent issue would be the dialog box labeled "Open 1 Documents" that won't disappear despite no documents being open. Sometimes I can get it to disappear by reopening the document that I just closed, (opening a document is what causes this dialog box to pop up sometimes). A number of times this has occured prior to getting the "serious error" shutdown. I am also gettng the scrambled text that has been an issue for others per historical posts. I eliminated the possibility that it is due to duplicate text boxes. Often occurs when applying paragraph composer to a specific paragraph. Used to be able to solve text scrambling on
