How should the end of my book file look in InDesign? Is it ok to end with a spread, or do I need an extra page like in the image? What Is standart?

I'm working on updating a former InDesign document and need to change all the character and paragraph from white to black. I've clicked on each style and tried to change the font but it only made a black stroke around each character and when I try to make the text black it keeps it white and puts a black background under it.So I'm not sure what to do to fix it.Can someone help?

Hello, I'm very new to InDesign and I have a maybe dumb question. I'm making a book and created a template with InDesign, the dimensions are A5 (5.83x8.27in). The bleed area is supposed to be 0.13in and when I have made the template it shows the bleed area outside of the white canvas, does this mean that the space between bleed line and white canvas is accounting for the size of the paper or is the size of the canvas true to size and it extends 0.13in do I have to put the bleed lines inside of the canvas?   <Title renamed by MOD>

My indesign version has menus in Dutch, probably because my Windows has Dutch as its language. I am working on a book in English, so I want the cross references in the index to be in English. The list of words plus page numbers is no problem, but cross references look like "SSC. Zie ook standard contract clauses." In an English book that should, of course, be "SCC. See also standard contract clauses". Any idea how I can teach the index function to use the language of my text? I know, there is a work around using search and replace every time I generate the index. But I'm looking for a real solution. Thanks for your help   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hello. I'm designing a book. The author requested the first chapter have a strikethrough on the first word, including in the table of contents. It is applied using a character style. The Table of Contents (TOC) list shows up correctly, with the strikethrough. Everything in the book is styled. The problem is, the strikethrough style is being applied to the TOC header each time I update the contents. It seems to be taking this style from the first chapter - the strikethrough style is not in the TOC header style. If I remove the strikethrough from the chapter, then it also stops being applied to the header. So each time, I have to select the header and remove the strikethrough style. Screenshot attached, content blurred for privacy. The file is created using a professional template from a book publisher so I don't think I can post the file. Possible bug, or problem with the style that were not seeing?

I encountered a couple of unexpected problems when placing linked content in my document. First, "Place and Link" creates an identically-named object in the document, with no indication that it's linked to anything. There's no symbol next to it in the layer list to indicate a dependency, and not even "(linked)" appended to its name. Do you seriously have to rename every instance of the item manually, in order to track dependencies? Second, I can't find any option to update the linked instances automatically when the parent changes. Isn't automatic revision the primary reason for linking? Sometimes a tiny yellow triangle will appear on an instance of the item when the parent changes (but this is not at all reliable), or you'll see an "error" indicated in the status bar if you look. Then you have to manually trigger an update. Must you really baby-sit every change? Thanks for any insight.

The title of the TOC I've got set up in my document is picking up the character style applied to the first entry in the TOC. If I remove the character style from the section heading being pulled into the TOC as the first entry, the TOC title goes back to its proper dark gray color, but as soon as I reapply the character color to the section heading being pulled into the TOC as the first entry and update my TOC, the title changes color to blue. Is there a way to fix this?Or maybe there is a different way to accomplish what I'm going for. Each section of my document is color coded, and I'm trying to pull that color coding into my TOC. Hello,I have an InDesign document with several pages. Now a script should always save 2 pages in a new document (page 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 etc.).In InDesign 2025 (20.2.) everything works perfectly, but unfortunately not in 2024 (19.5.3). There the empty pages are not deleted correctly. The function removeEmptyPages is probably not working properly.Can anyone help? Hello there,  I've noticed an odd occurence recently, where my imported JPGs are doing fine in InDesign, even after closing program multiple times. Then suddenly, I open the project and it's distorted with a glitch/artifact looking image (still attached).  If anyone has any pointers, it'd be greatly appreciated. I've tried to re-install the program. I started with TIFFs intitially, then downsized to JPGs.  Thanks, 

Hi there,  a few months ago I posted about a problem I had been having with indesign constantly flickering whenever I tried to move any assets. I was never able to fix it, and as such have had to use Illustrator for all of my file handling since.  Last night, I was absolutely sure I had managed to permanently fix it but this morning I checked and it's back to being dodgy. I was rather sleep deprived so please excuse any stupidity. I believe I 'fixed' the problem last night by turning off GPU Preview and switching to CPU. I cannot for the life of me find it on Indesign, but can on Illustrator so my best guess is a sleep deprivation induced hallucination. If there is a way to replicate this effect on indesign please let me know as my unparamounted joy last night went right down the pooper this morning.

Bonjour,Je suis sous mac (dernière version de sierra) et j'ai indesign CC 2017.Je travaillais dessus quand tout d'un coup le logiciel se ferme par accident. Je le ré-ouvre et là il m'affiche un message d'erreur en me disant que mon fichier est endommagé (code erreur 5). Impossible d'ouvrir mon fichier... Je relance le logiciel mais rien ne se fait, j'ai même téléchargé la denrière version de indesign cc 2018 mais rien y fait..  Quelqu'un aurait une solution pour récupérer mon fichier... I'd like to type straight single quote (vertical apostrophe) rather than a curly apostrophe by default. Aside from unchecking the optinon under preferences > Type > Type Quotes > Use Typographer's Quotes or typing typing with alt + ' for windows or command + ' for mac. Are there other ways that would trigger my single quote to show vertically rather than curly? Thanks!

Hi, since the past week, we can't convert some templates we have to make pages with a version 15 or 16 to Indesign v14.03, creating conflict in some cases and in others sucesfully creating the file after try for a couples time. The question is if this conversion tool has been removed or not, because is a process from creative cloud as i understand, and if it has been removed can some other tool replace it.

Hello Community,   We edit an Indesign file with many pages in A4 vertical format. Each page can be divided in 2 (up part R1 and down part V1 for page 1 and so on for page 2, 3, 4,...) I need to print R1/R2/R3/R4 in a front A4 page horizontal format, and V1/V2/V3/V4 at the back of same A4 page as V1 is at the back of R1, V2 is back of R2, V3 is back of R3, V4 is back of R4. Does somebody have a solution with Indesign, Pdf file printing or else?     <Title renamed by MOD>

Hello dear Adobe team I'd like to have the page number format with 01,02,03,04... in my layout instead of 1,2,3,4. However, I want this only visually because with the other page number format a third party plugin does not work. Just adding a 0 before the page number variable won't work because 10, 11, 12 … should be 10, 11, 12 and not 010, 011, 012 etc.Now I would have wanted to solve this with GREP, but then realized that "current page number" is exactly one character and you can't use {2}, {3} etc. here. Otherwise I would have just done a find-replace (to the correct paragraph format, of course):FIND: \d(?!\d+)REPLACE: 0$0Is there any way to solve this differently?Thank you very much for your inputs. Regards,Noel Bürgler

Hi Adobe, I'm having this issue where I have to restart InDesign every time I publish my document online to check if the animations are updated. This is incredibly annoying, as I have to restart InDesign every time I need to make changes to my animation but the PUBLISH ONLINE WINDOW won't appear.  Can you tell me a short-term fix for this issue? 

I was trying to set up a kindle digital and was exporting from indesign to epub. All of my fonts are changing. If I look at the file with Calibre - it's perfect. But if I view with Kindle preview, all the fonts have changed. Have I messed up a setting?

ich arbeite mit der aktuellen Indesign Version. Datei erstellt, PDF Export, Porzess startet, keine Fehlermeldung. Nach langer Zeit, ist die Dateigröße des PDF immer noch 0 kb.  Jemand eine Idee voran es liegt?

I am having a book printed on coated paper. All of my photoshop images are coated SWOP but my printer has asked for FOGRA39 coated in the pdf export settings. Do I have to convert every image in photoshop to FOGRA39 or can I just export as FOGRA39 and leave the photoshop files as SWOP?

Does the expand feature work with placed images in InDesign or only images generated by AI? Whenever I try to expand an image the command is grayed out. Help!

Unfortunately, for the first time in six months of using InDesign, I am suddenly getting an error message every time I export my book as a PDF for a final proofread. It says either: "Error failed to load PDF document." OR: "We can't open this file, something went wrong." I have tried 20 times with different versions of the book. I regularly save new versions to creative cloud and have only had the problem today after uploading my CMYK pics. Yesterday they were RGB so I had to change them for the printer. I have restarted my computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign. Also suddenly InDesign won't accept me changing the units from inches to mm. It l ets me do this once in document setup and I save the change. But when I go back to document setup  to double check, it has reverted to inches. When I try to change to mm in a specific document, it allows me to enter mm only in the width box and then when I move to the height box, it reverts back to inches. I did not have this pr
