InDesign

I have been working on getting my styles in Word to match my InDesign styles. This way when I put my word document into my InDesign file it goes smoothly. I have most of it narrowed down now. There are two things that puzzle me that I can’t figure out. I will only talk about the one right now. When I import my Word document into InDesign the hyphenate is on. I don’t want the document to be imported with the hyphenate on.How can I make sure that it imports and hyphenate is turned off after it gets imported?

I can't find help on this anywhere.I want to make a boxset of series novels. I did this before by pulling all final files into Scrivener, and compiling those as one document/book, then importing/placing it into a new ID template.Problem is, the books I'm working on have been updated in ID, and the final files are now ID files.I tried using the move pages, and get an error with ebookexport and section plugins.I tried using the book template, and using the plus to add them as documents with the same result.I looked for those plugins, but couldn't find them.Notably, I am using the last 19 version of ID, because the 2025 versions kept crashing and no one could figure out how to help me. Nothing worked. So I rolled back to 19 and it stopped crashing. Problem is, I have some files created in 2025 version and have had to save them as 2024 version to get to them again, and now, this problem with combining books files into a series boxset.Is there some trick to this I haven't found?

Often I receive "print ready" art from clients to print who do not know how or what bleeds are which lead me to get creative with their stuff.  Sometimes I can just place the image and expand the image box and run Text to Image to automatically generate decent bleeds.  Other times it seems nothing I try will probably add acceptable bleeds to it.  Is there an actual text prompt I can type it so the AI can understand that I want actual bleeds added?

Rookie with great tech skills, just funny know best so and process. Any suggestions welcome.  

Hi everyonefor the past couple of weeks, InDesign has been crashing all the time, 4-5 times a day, even though I haven't changed anything on my computer. Yesterday I installed the update and was hoping it would fix it, but today the same thing happened twice. Is there a bug? Does this happen to anyone else?

Hi, I am at the end of my book project and have prepared my books for export using a PDF preset from the printer (FM_Text_FOGRA52). For some reason, on the first page, it includes some of the graphics from page two. If I export without the PDF preset ([PDF/X-1a:2001]), this doesn’t happen. As you can also see in the image below, there is nothing on page one, so I don’t understand why this is happening when I export it. Is this a common issue? Why might this be happening? Thank you very much!    

This is driving me nuts now!What I'm trying to achieve is from a start up script that has an afterOpen eventListener then adds a afterSelectionAttributeChanged eventListener (I'm not sure if this is the best thing to use?) to each document that is opened. This would then check any images that are placed for their itemLink. However I'm getting an error message come up saying cannot handle request because a model dialog or alert is active. I don't have anything active. Strange thing is if I put an alert after the 'var doc = app.activeDocument;' line that breaks the script the script then works. Can anyone please explain what's happening? Hi, I want to publish an interactive magazine online for a final year college project. Im under a big time crunch so if anyone could get back to me asap it would be very appreciated. It has a lot of interactive elements eg videos, popups, clickable linkts etc so I dont think that the interactive pdf will work.  I would love for the pages to "flip" and also be responsive so that a two page spread is shown on a desktop, but only one page is shown on a mobile screen/ tablet screen. Is there a way for me to do this easily? I also would love to host it on my own website or have its own domain eg "magazinename.com", is this possible too? I have heard of using in5 but unfortunately the cost is an isssue for me. Is there any free or cheap places i can do all these things?? Please let me know! -Keylah 

I'm debugging a document and removing everything that's not required, and when I check, using the "Find/Replace Font" window, the fonts used in the document appear to be 6, but when packaging, in the "Fonts" section, it says there are 18! When I select one of the ones I don't recognize and request its location in the document, it doesn't appear in the "Find/Replace Font" window, and if it doesn't appear, it can't show me where it "supposedly" is located in the document.   The only font I think I could possibly add to the registered ones would be the "Basic Paragraph" font, Minion Pro, but other than that... 18 fonts....    What could be happening, and how can I sort the Fonts window, the "Packaging" window, and the "Find/Replace Font" window so that their information matches? Thanks.

Hi all! What is this object? It looks like a graphic, but as you can see, when the object is selected it does not show up in the LINKS panel. I can change the colour as you can see, it's a mottled colour, but still can be changed. When I export, it does not show up in the links folder. Any ideas?

Hi,I have multiple textframes threaded. Page as been setup properly as I wanted. I want to put a soft return at the end of line. If there is a new paragraph change, it will ignore that. I have marked it with red circles, the places where I want soft-returns. How to do this with a script. I want to target a particular para style.

Hi! I'm having a hard time understanding what this means and how to fix it:"On some pages, the data is composed of CMYK, mainly barcodes or photos. For the books, a 1+1 (b/w) print is planned. The EAN should be in 100% K, as well as the images." How do I change this? Does this also apply to vector graphics?This is for a book project for print. Thank you!

Hi! Could you please share the link for Adobe InDesign? When I downloaded InDesign on my end, I couldn’t find the “MANUAL PRESET UNINET.indd” file that’s needed to generate the order. HiI am looking for a script to carry out following command in Indesign. Ctrl + Alt + \     and    Ctrl+Alt+Shift+\   => to increase word spaceCtrl + Alt + Bksp     and    Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Bksp  => to decrease word space from selected text. Actually I need an interface where I can change the values and see the result live in the text. Thanks

Hi guys, I just created a document with inDesign. I also entered information in the File Info section. However, when I export the document in JPEG format, the XMP information doesn't get exported with it. I've gone through the Preferences and can't find anyting to do with the inclusion/exclusion of metadata.  Could you please give me an indication of how I may be able to do this? For a couple of years now, even with updated versions and OS, InDesign has had a bug that makes my document invisible. That is, all elements can be selected (see screenshot), and you can make it visible again by enabling “Overprint Preview.” But very frustrating to close and then open the files again to make it visible.Does anyone have a solution to this? 

I need to explore writing plug-ins or import mechanisms for InDesign. Where can I find the latest SDK and docs?

Hello. I'm getting back to work after over a year on a large book with many images, and several images will need to be edited. Is there a quick way to locate the image on disk that is linked in InDesign? I don't see anything like "image properties" or "linked image" when right clicking on the image in the project. I see relink image, but it doesn't take me to the location or the currently linked image. 

I am trying to package an InDesign file and am receiving an error message. "This document contains links to files/URL(s) that are not accessible. Please check your network connectivity or the original source of content." There are no errors in preflight. Placed graphics are linked. URLs in the document are correct. I am on Mac OS 13.4 and InDesign 2023 (just upgraded.)

I am the licensed owner of InDesign CS5. The previous two computers I had loaded this on crashed, and I can't deactivate it, and I therefore can't load it on my new computer. Is there a workaround?
