Hi, I have a problem with the online version of my pdf. I am exporting the page spreads and would like the numbering to be as these spreads are i.e. 1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-7 etc. The whole thing is 500 sts and in the pdf it shows 250. And the table of contents loses its meaning here at this point, because it is not easy to find the pages with this layout. I would be grateful for your help.

Hi, i'm creating an interactive pdf for a client in Indesign. The pages need to have buttons which open other pdfs. The final pdf will be used in places with no connectivity so I can't host or link to these pdfs, they need to somehow be embedded within the main pdf. I appreciate I can add these as pages within the main ID doc, but some have multiple pages themself so addign each page of these resoruces as individual pages will become a problem. Is there a way I can create a button to open one of these pdf resources as an extra window in whatever pdf viewer they're being opened on? I tried this a few years ago by linking the files within the same folder as the main pdf, but when the folder containing them all was moved onto different platforms the button link was lost, so each user needed to re-add it in Acrobat, which became a problem. 

Why is it giving me this error if I have my link images right in my folder?

I'm trying to export various GREP queries, which unfortunately isn't possible to use it with my colleagues. Therefore, I'm trying to incorporate longer expressions into an existing XML query. However, the characters aren't displayed as they appear in the GREP search, neither in Visual Studio Code nor in a regular text editor. How can I solve this problem? (InDesign 2025/Mac)

I have found this freeware script to transpose table rows to coumns (Indesign Transpose Tables Script). Works amazingly well but one slight draw back is you have to do each table one by one. Why would the CSV file used in Data Merge when auto-importing images from a folder be ordered randomly?I have a folder of images named: SEP 01.psd, SEP 02.psd, SEP 03.psd, etc. but the resulting CSV after running the script looks like this: I know I can re-order the CSV file but I want to know why is this happening because I've used this script extensively in the past with no problems. I've tried all 3 formats of the ImageCatalog script included in InDesign, plus a custom version I always use, and they all yield the same unordered results.

I have a book with numbered chapters and some unnumbered back matter (e.g. References).My TOC Style is a Numbered Contents Table.  The Paragraph Style for the TOC Chapter Entry specifies a Numbering Style with Format 1, 2, 3, 4...  The resulting TOC has automatically numbered Chapters (as wanted).Within some Chapters are Headings, which are included in the TOC with a (Level 2) TOC Heading Entry paragraph style specifying Bullets and Numbering = None.  The resulting Headings in the TOC are not numbered (as wanted).At the end of the book is some back matter titled References, which are given TOC Chapter Entry paragraph style.  The resulting References are numbered as an extra chapter in the TOC.  I want to remove this numbering in the TOC.Each chapter also has a Chapter Number with a matching style, but the References are not given a Chapter Number. Is there any way of using this Chapter Number in the TOC, rather than the automatic numbering in the TOC

Hello. I hope that the community can help. My high school students use InDesign to create pages on Macbooks for our school newspaper. Each page designer is assigned a Mac and creates their page on their Mac. However, we have not found a way to "transfer" pages between accounts or Macs. In other words, when there is an issue with a created page, only the person who created the page can access it to solve the issue, which means that they have to be present with their Mac. Because kids leave and logout of their computers, we cannot access their file. Sharing a page with another student doesn''t work as downloaded fonts are dropped and many of the design elements are lost. Is there a solution for this? Meaning, is there a way that multiple page editors could have access to one page that is created on a Mac other than their own, keeping all the design components of the page, and being able to edit the page. Thanks for considering. 

I am working on a large budget book and the client wants to be able to edit the excel files (tables) on their end and just have me link to them from the InDesign file. The tables are not all the same headings and have different row headings and content. What's the best way for me to link these files? Data merge? The file also has to be turned into an accessible pdf (which I know how to do but have never worked with linked excel files befofre). Thanks so much for your help!

Hello,I need an option to restart end note numbering per page in Adobe InDesign Currently, end notes continue numbering throughout the document and story but I want them to restart from 1 on each page.Is there any built-in option for this, or do I need a script/plugin? If anyone has a solution, please guide me.Thank you!

In the current book I'm formatting in ID, the text threads seem backward. They usually go in top left to out the bottom right. Note the screenshots of the two examples. One right, the other wrong, I think.I'm hoping I won't have to start over with a fresh document and PLACE the text all over again. I've done this process hundreds of times, and this has never happened when using the autoflow. Anyone have an idea what happened and how to fix it?

Hallo an alle, ich bräuchte sehr DRINGEND Hilfe bei folgendem Problem: Ich soll eine Weltkarte mit benannten Ländern überarbeiten, die leider nur als PDF verfügbar ist und in Illustrator geöffnet werden kann. Das Problem ist, dass die Namen der Länder nur als Vektordateien verfügbar ist, aber nicht als Text. Ich soll die ganze Datei aber am Ende als .indd Datei mit den Namen der Länder als Text abgeben. Kennt irgendjemand ein Tool, das automatisch Text erkennen kann und auch automatisch ein Textfeld in einer .indd Datei erstellen kann? Vielleicht hat auch irgendjemand eine Idee, wie ich das lösen kann.Vielen Dank auf jeden Fall für die Hilfe. Liebe Grüße

Hi, I have a problem about spacing/ justification.One line in a paragraph become very widely justified. the setting looks fine. Only the first line of a paragraph is like this. Other paragraphs are also fine.How can I fix it? Thank you in advance?

I'm working with an InDesign document created by someone else. There is a text box sitting atop a backgraound illustration. I couldn't select the text box to move it, so I moved the background illustration out of the way to get to it. I still was unable to move or edit the text box. I'm not sure why this text box is not movable or editable but it's very frustrating. I've relaunched the application to no avail. Is this a bug? Anyone have any ideas? I'm under deadline, so any responses to this issue would be great. BTW - I can see text edit markings - end of line characters, etc. - so, I know the text is editable and hasn't been converted to a graphic...if I could only get to it!!

Hello, I am designing a theatre program in InDesign 2025 and always use a dot leader when listing scenes. However, I have a name AFTER the dot leader tab with a period in it -  "Mr."  When I tab with the dot leader without using the period after Mr, it aligns fine, however, when I use the period after MR, that forces the rest of the listing to the next line. I don't have "align on" set with a period. I just don't know how to stop this from happening and still be able to use the period in the Mr title and use a period for the dot leader. First example without period, 2nd example with period. I can't figure out how to fix this! Thanks!

I have a set of badges to print. About 130 of them. The document is setup to size with each page an individual badge. The printer would like to have a PDF with duplicates of each page...so two copies of one badge, then two copies of the next and so on for it to print double sided on their machine.I can find no easy way to do this...when I duplicate a page I can only do it one page at a time and it puts it at the end of the 130 pages then I have to drag it up to be right after the correct page.If I try to print multiple copies to a Postscript file (it will not ALLOW multiple copies to print to a PDF) somehow I can't get it to print 2 copies of each then the next two ect.I wish I could just select all the pages and hit a DUPLICATE but have them be placed right after each instead of collated so I have to drag 130 pages around.Happy to do this from InDesign OR Acrobat with the final press-ready files but just can't find an easy way.Any insight?

As I highlight letters in InDesign, a pop-up box appears which I think I will refer to as a glyph options pop-up (real name unknown because I only get answers for the glyphs panel). Somewhere in InDesign, there is an option to switch this off, but I can't remember where. Can somebody tell me, please? 

Hey all,  I'm looking for a way to create the ability for a user to click on a shape  and have that shape fill in with a colour. For instance:I've made each cell an individual shape, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Basically what I want is an if: on-mouseclick, then: [specify which cells to colour] . But it isn't quite a button and isn't an animation either. Thoughts/help?

Hola, Expertos de la Comunidad. La imagen adjunta muestra un fondo blanco en la línea del texto superior, resultado de configurar de esa manera el “Borde de Párrafo” de la línea de texto inferior, sin embargo, el orden de estos efectos impide que el “Sombreado de Párrafo” de color amarillo en la línea de texto superior, se muestre de extremo a extremo en sentido horizontal. Deseo saber cuáles criterios utiliza InDesign para determinar la disposición de los efectos, y cómo invertir su orden, a fin de que el “Sombreado de Párrafo” de color amarillo, esté sobre el “Borde de Párrafo” de color blanco. Nota: fuera de lo planteado, la apariencia y funcionalidad programada, debe permanecer como se aprecia. El archivo se encuentra adjunto. Gracias.   

Could someone help me export an ebook created in InDesign to the reading format on the Kindle?

Today I updated indesign to version 19.4. When I use the databases for the data merge function with linked images within the database, a message tells me that the images are not reachable. The files I’m working on, including databases and images, are in the Dropbox folder. I downgraded to version 19.3 and everything worked again. Can anyone help me?   {Reanmed By MOD}

I have an Arabic document to lay out in InDesign. I've set the language to Arabic, so it should automatically typeset the content from right to left. However, when I paste the text into the document, it is laid out left to right so it doesn't make sense. Has anyone found a workaround for this bug? 

InDesign Files (pretty much all Adobe files) wont open after Seqouia OS update and Adobe updates, files are in DropBox. If someone can be of help I'd be MOST grateful.

So i use a laptop usually and things are normally fine. however for some reason now all objects on my second monitor is not moveable. i can click on the object and when i attempt to move it theres a red circle icon. if i move the indesign window to my main screen everything is moveable and the problem only happens on the 2nd monitor. ive tried reseting preferences, nothing is locked. when i use my laptop InDesign works fine, but the second I move the window onto my monitor, it dosnt allow me to move objects, and when it does it moves it to a random location as if my mouse isnt calibrated and believes my mouse is in a different spot.  Then i move it back to my laptop and its fine. I know other people have reccomened to change the scale on my laptop, or to move all the objects by clicking V, but I want to know how to fully fix this issue. Ive already reset my preferences but I dont know what to do 

I'm creating a very simple one page ID doc. (version 20.0.1). When I click on any element (text box or image), the whole page momentairly goes blank so I can't see what I'm doing. Weird! How can I fix this?
