We have spent many months on testing render farm solutions on different Apple machines and while it was working ive now been convinced to move to PC.  We are currently running 2x Synology Rack 10Gbe units with dual 10Gbe connections to the VFX guys.Im now pricing up the Precision 7920 Rack Workstation in a dual 12core setup running a P6000 and 128gb ram as a baseline point to scale up from there.  What im having for is anyone with knowledge or experience with workflows using VM software in  render farm situation or any other system you can recommend?  We are investing 4k RAW footage into AE, using Neat Video, Real Motion Blur and Red Giant Keying Suite to output an image sequence EXR format that gets pulled into Davinchi Resolve and exported from there.  Our bottle neck is the AE render portion especially with Neat Video using GPU, if we take this out of the equation it speeds up considerable with the current farm.  Our thoughts were to have a seperate inv

I currently own a Windows laptop that has served me well for my first 3 years of taking freelancing as serious career. Hello everyone!I'm looking for a really good laptop for video editing that isn't from Apple. It can be expensive if it's the perfect one.I don't know a lot about computers but I need a great screen, graphics card, processor (Intel Core i7?) and memory. If it's not too heavy or too big that's even better!I use Premiere and Lightroom a lot, and will maybe work on Photoshop, After Effect or Indesign too. I've read here that gpu works only in special cases (some effects), but everything is done by cpu.If there is a strong cpu (i7 8th generation) and no separate gpu, can I edit fhd / 4k video without jamming?The point is for me to edit. Smooth timeline, no lags. I have time to wait for the export.To sum up: a strong new cpu, many rams, ssd, NO gpu.What I would use: Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom.Thanks for the reply. !

Hi everyone!I could really use your help in choosing a good laptop for video editing and color grading. I want a laptop on which I can edit in Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC and Davinci resolve comfortably. I know a desktop is my best shot but I need something mobile because Im often on the move. Im also not sure should I aim for a lot of RAM memory or a great processor or video card etc. I'll mostly edit HD footage and sometimes 4k. I would also be very thankful if you can specify what kind of processor ( how many cores,threads,ghz), how much RAM ( some people say 16gb is not enough) and what kind of GPU is enough in order to fulfill my needs. Same issue on my machine, except in the preview window, making editing a real pain.Specs as follows:AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950XZenith extreme Asus MoBo64GB gskil 3200 ddr4 in quad channel1080ti 11gb Graphics card1tb Samsung Evo Pro SSD250gb NVMe Scratch disk2 x 8TB Enterprise drives with access in excess of 250 MBpsI still get choppy frigging playback, I'm constantly dropping frames left right and center. Its ridiculous to expect that a machine of this caliber can't handle the preview in premiere. I've scoured the web for all the fixes and tried them to no avail. Whatever this bug is, Adobe needs to sort their shit out. Paying massive amounts of money so that we can get badly performing software is crazy. So basically, every time I launch or playback a video in premiere or after effects my pc bluescreens. The blue screen error is DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION.Heres some diagnostic info for the problem. System specs:i9 7900x overclocked to 4.6ghz on all 10 cores  ---- note, its stable and i have the issue on default clock speed.2x Nvidia GeForce Titan Xp --- august driver cuz the new ones don't like java for some reason lol2x Samsung 960 Pro 2tb SSD 8x 16 G.skill something ram --- tried swapping all dim slots & changing out ram.Asus x299 Motherboard ---- tried to reset biosOS: Windows 10 Build: 1709 (OS Build 16299.192)Side notes: I have reinstalled windows. Hi,I'm going to build a render PC which will have to command line render After Effect projects (aerender.exe). So text and shape layers with expressions and mask. All background animations with heavy effects will be prerenderd on the workstation pc before send to this new render pc.The videos will be about 10 to 15 seconds, 1024x1024 pixels. Most for social media uploading.I've chose for a CPU with a high base freq, because from what I understand thats what AE uses to render. Amount of cores is not that important with 2D.CPU and SSD (and fast internet) would be crucial to render video, write video, and send the video quickly. For now I have 100mbit up and down, possible to upgrade to 500mbit.1x CPU = Intel Core i7-8086K1x Motherboard = Asus ROG Strix B360-I Gaming2x SSD = Samsung 970 Pro 512GB1x RAM = G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C16D-16GTZR1x Power supply = be quiet! I'm editing MXF files from my Canon C3000 MK II.  When I playback video, it looks like it goes back one frame every second.  It's 4K video. I am running PE 2018 on my Windows 10 (Dell Inspiron 5000 laprop). My laptop has an HDD and not an internal SSD. I  bought a Samsung T5 (500 GB) to store my media on.  Can I  or should I move the Premiere Elements software to this external ssd since it should be faster than my internal hard drive?

I posted this in another section of the forum but was told to re post it here in the hopes this may be a hardware problem.  I've done Bill's PPBM8 test, the results are below.PPBM8 Results: 56/45/14/185I've just built a new system with speed in mind, specks are below.  I'm trying to export a video out of Premiere, it's 4K video shot at 60 FPS that's being saved out to 1080P@59.94 FPS and the entire clip is about 1.2 minutes long.  The clip is made up of two nested sequences, the first is a two layer comp, one layer is regular 4K video and the second layer is an animation sequence with an alpha channel, the second nested sequence is a linked after effects comp.  I'm saving out the video using the H.264 format & the high quality 1080p preset, render at maximum depth is checked as well as use maximum render quality, all other settings are default.   The time it's taking to encode this video is in excess of an hour and if my machine were maxed out I would

They have an online sale happening so I am interested in getting one for Premiere Pro.These are specs:- Intel Core i7-8750H (6-core, 9MB Cache, up to 4.1GHz w/ turbo boost- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 OC with 8GB GDDR5- 17.3" QHD (2560x1440)- 23GB DDR4-2666MHz- 256GB PCIe M.2 SSD + 1TB 7200RPM HDD1. Though I understand these are for gaming, are Alienware laptops considered good for video editing? 2. Does anyone in the forum have experience with their products, with respect to video editing? 3. I am still a beginner and barely shoot 4K. Right now I'm editing video on my 2015 13 inch macbook pro. It has 512 gbs of storage, so I imported about 200 gb the other day and got to editing. The computer handles it pretty well, but recently I've heard that importing all the footage to the drive on the computer is not that efficient. Can you edit video straight from an external ssd or hdd, and if you can, how does the speed compare to using the native drive on the macbook? Thanks[Moderator note: moved to best forum]

Hello,I am looking into building/ getting a PC for mainly render only purposes. I have been trying to figure out whether a good GPU is much of use on After Effects (and ideally on Premiere as well). I am a bit of a beginner in terms of computer structure, but so far I've been looking into the other elements being CPU i5 8600k, 16-32 GB DDR4 RAM and in terms of GPU was looking at 1080 GTX, but is it necessary?I want to also mention that a variety of budgets would be ideal, just so I know what the potential is out there.Any advice on what would work best for a pc for best render on AE and Premiere overall would be much appreciated! Hello!I am currently working on several complex projects in Premiere Pro and After Effects, and I'm concerned that I'm not getting the performance I should be getting out of my computer. Specifically, I don't think Premiere Pro is using the GPU the way it's supposed to.I've already covered the basics of troubleshooting—Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Media Encoder are all set to use the CUDA version of the Mercury Playback Engine, and GPUSniffer correctly identifies my GPU.Now I'm ready to embark on more serious testing. Hiya. It took me a whole day to install the drivers for the card - mini monitor 4k- (installed in PCI-x8 slot ) and get the card recognized by WIN 7 pro. Newest BM driver worked.. just had to keep clicking 'install' about 10 times. Got signal on reference monitor … Lilliput FA10113/S … field monitor ( 10.1" ). When making new project in CS6 I have several choices. The monitor is only good for full HD, like 24 fps which is what I shoot anyway.I have a MSI graphics card in PCI X 16 slot, with Nvidia Cuda, and 2 monitors connected via DVI, and now the BM card.When I set up a test project to get the ref monitor to work I chose Blackmagic playback and both monitors hooked up to graphics card.Also chose Blackmagic preset ( full hd progressive 23.97 fps) and put some junk video in timeline to test signal.I got signal, via SDI, and got sound ( chose BM sound preference ) but got black screen. My 2 monitors ...got basic GUI of cs6 on monitor 1 and got full screen playback on monitor 2.Any insig
