FBX VS OBJ export from Substance Modeler INTO STAGE - 1000x better than an .OJB export !

 SEE ATTACHED PHOTO FOR COMPARISONS

*** ----> So I've been testing EXPORTS from Adobe 3D Modeler.

I exported a simple combo of squares, round objects and exported them from Substance Modeler

as an .OBJ file. I bring them into Stager, and no matter what I do, the object look so so bad.  The lighting is bad, the material applied is bad.

So I remember watching somebody export a .FBX format from Modeler.... so I try that

and BINGO.... the surface of the object in Stager is amazing.... the materials look so good too !

........ so what is the problem ? .... is .OBJ a bad way to export from Modeler ?

and... WHY doesn't Adobe have a video on exporting different formats and WHICH format is the best

for exports from Modeler into Stager ? .... Adobe really needs wake up on little things like this.

So much wasted time trying to figure out things that they ( paid employees ) should be on and addressing in ways of education via website, or YouTube tutorials.

OBJ is a simple format that's easy to implement and supported by almost everything. It can handle mesh data (verts/edges/polygons), simple UVs, custom normals, vertex colors, and material assignments.
FBX is an all-in-one format that's vastly more complex then OBJ (and thus vastly more prone to issues with its implementation in various apps). It supports not just mesh data, but also rigs, animation, lights, cameras, etc.
You would use OBJ if you wanted a 'clean' mesh with no additional unnecessary/junk data. And FBX when you need to transfer more then that.

I don't believe you looked at my sample render file, nor the experiements I did, they counter what you posted here. You don't say a word about the photo which gives you a very good idea of my results. Why is that ?

I had far better results with FBX.  I don't know why, but FBX works better for me.
