Question

Match Loudness - Is it measuring original loudness or is it reading the audio changes you've already applied

Hi. I was manually adjusting the gain of my two tracks, but then tried dragging them into Match Loudness after the fact. When Match Loudness is applying itself, is it calculating True Peak, etc based on my original audio (it seems that way) or is it making its calculations based on the gain changes I've already applied? I actually do not like the sound that Match Loudness creates, but would like to use that panel to measure Perceived Loudness of my tracks so I can manually adjust accordingly. Thank you for your thoughts and any ideas on best practices for adjusting audio based on perceived loudness are most welcome.

As far as I'm aware, the calculation is based on assessing the contents of the file - so if you haven't saved it then your changes won't be measured as a part of the result.

Thanks, Steve. I will assume then if I adjust gain (and I was doing this in Multitrack), that if I save, close, and then reopen and try to Match Loudness that it will be matching the newer content and not original.

I doubt it.  Multitrack is non-volatile, and will not alter a file's stored attributes at all. I think you need to do this in Waveform view and save tbe changes.
