I have been using your excellent word processor during last years (beginning from v5.5.1 dec.1996) to my great satisfaction.
This morning I have installed the trial version of FMaker 8.0 (Framemaker8_WWEFG_2.exe) before purchasing it and I have tried to open a document of mine, written with the version 7.2, but the prog aborted after this message:

Internal Error 8004,6335581,8468256,0. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.
A file named "k:\fmaker80\FrameLog_07.08.16_09.55.44.txt" has been generated which contains
information that may help Frame development improve the product for future releases.
Please describe your recent actions and send this, along with the generated file,
to fmerror@adobe.com. Due to the volume of feedback, we are unable to respond to technical questions.
For support, please refer to http://www.adobe.com/support.

Any advice?

Charles, this thread is getting long in the tooth so it would help us enormously if you could post a new thread to the forum so that folks can more easily understand your problem without getting mixed up in reading the other poster's information.

Also, please specify your exact FM version (from Help > About, the "pxxx" numbers), platform, Windows service pack, and exactly how you create your PDFs (using Save As or printing to the PDF virtual printer).

I'm getting a similar error code after saving a file to a PDF. Now I can't save any book as a PDF. Even files I created recently with no problems. Is there a way to Recover FrameMaker? It seems to have become corrupted.

    Hi there,

I am testing the TCS to determine whether the company I work for buys it. I had the exact same error when I used Save all files in book and when I used Save book. I sent in some of the log files (it's been happening for a couple weeks now). I tried the following with no success:

Reinstalled the FrameMaker trial with the latest version.
    Deleted the font cache.
Deleted the font cache and rebooted.

Today I created a new book file and added my existing chapter files to it. So far so good. I've tried both Save all files and saving the book file about four or five times each and no crashes.

    I can suggest the following:
    1. Restart the machine. Sometimes this does resolve the problem.
    2. Create a new document with the trial version (yes one can save with the trial version) - this is to determine if installation of the trial version is correct.
    3. Create a new simple document in English language in FM7.2 (.FM or .MIF), and try loading this in the trial version. Or just try opening a template (shipped with FM 7.2) in the FM8 trial version.
    4. Move to the latest FM 8 trial on the adobe site (FM 8.0.1 EFGJ trial)
    5. Delete the font cache (c:\windows\system32\fntcache.dat), and restart the machine. The font cache will rebuild itself.

Please let us know the results for each step. If none of these work, I would request a sample frame file to be sent to us, with which the crash can be reproduced. Please also include the corresponding crash log file that gets created.
    Thanks,

I have the same problem--it crashes when I try to import a Word file. Since that's all I do all day long, guess I can't upgrade to veriosn 8, huh?

    Susan,

Is it a specific Word file or any Word files that cause your FM8 to
crash? Do you do any prep on your Word files prior to importing? Are
there complex tables or many graphics in the Word files?

    Hi,
I am getting the same error message and same abortion of the program.
I have installed the trial version of Framemaker 8.0 and initially it was working fine.
But I changed the maker.ini file and added the following line in the [ApiClients] section:-
hello=Standard, Greets user at startup,fminit\hello.dll, all
After this change, it gives the error as mentioned.
    Any help on this??

    Regards,
    Vineet

    Vineet,

    How about removing the non-standard plug-in? ;-)

Since it doesn't seem to be working with this version of FM, I presume
that you need to recompile with the v.8 SDK.

The document I am trying to import in FMaker 8 is a very simple document written with ver.7.2, without tables, graphics or anchore frames. The document is written in Italian.

I have also started in Safe Mode, but, when I try to run FMaker 8 a window pop ups saying
    "Framemaker

The AMT subsystem has indicated that the licensing subsystem has failed!"

Starting again in VGA mode, Fmaker starts normally, but the behavior is the same as showed in my first post.

It is better for me to go back to version 7.2, waiting for a patch or another release..

    Thanks for your help,

    Paolo

Unfortunately FM8 is so new that most of the forum members haven't yet gotten much experience in its "quirks" -- although your problem sounds like more of a bug with the filters.

If you wanted to do more troubleshooting I'd suggest making a copy of your original 7.2 document and experimenting by removing content to see if you can isolate whether there's anything in particular causing the crash. e.g. divide the document into two parts, to see if the problem occurs in only one half. Then start removing objects such as graphics or anchored frames, to see if they are causing the problem. Or tables.

Another possibility that occurred to me: are you using any language settings other than English for your dictionaries and paragraph tags?

Hi Sheila, thanks for your reply. I have just tried the procedure you suggest, but the final result is the same. Same error code, and after that the prog aborts.

Moreover, I have the same result (message and error code) if I try to open a new file.

The version 7.2, on the same computer, works very well.

I am using WinXP Pro SP2.

    Thanks again, Paolo.

Paolo, have you tried saving your 7.2 document as "MIF" format and then opening the MIF file in 8.0?
