Questions

I am having a situation where I build conditional expressions and save the document, but the expressions are gone when I close and reopen the document. I have the same expressions saved in other documents in the same book, but they only seem to disapper in this document and not the others associated with the book. Any idea as to what could cause something like that to happen? Happy to provide more details if needed.

Dear community,we publish some of our FrameMaker documents as Responsive HTML5. As we describe a quite complex software with many parameters, we inserted Hypertext markers for nearly every parameter in the FrameMaker files. Reason: from the software we want to jump directly to the corresponding description on the HTML page. With FM 2019 everything works as expected, with FM 2022 (17.0.6) the Hypertext markers are missing in the HTML files (so there is no "a" element with the content of the hypertext mark as "name" attribute). Hi all,My problem.  I'm trying to do a short (5 or 6 rows) two-column frame in the middle of a one-column text frame then place footnotes inside the two-column frame. Solution #1.  Make a table with no ruling.  This is what I would normally do, but this time I need footnotes to go to the bottom of the page instead of the bottom of the table.Solution #2.  Make a new two-column text frame then connect the flows.  Unfortunately, this is pushing the flow into areas where I don't expect them to be.  Must be doing something wrong. What I've been doing that doesn't work.1) Making a normal multiple page flow.  Say, 5 pages.2) Going back to (say) page 2.3) Inserting a new two-column text frame.4) Inserting text into the two-column text frame.5) Connecting the two frames. But this is feeding text that should be inside the two-column text frame down to below the point where I inserted the two-column text frame.  And reversing steps #3 an

We are upgrading from Structured FrameMaker 11 to Structured FrameMaker 2022.We have an automated process that imports an xml file containing multiple factsheets into FrameMaker. When the import completes, the factsheets are fully formatted. These factsheets include graphic eps files that are included in the import process.When testing in FM 2022, we are using our existing FrameMaker templates, DTD, EDD, Rules file, and xsl. When importing, the file are formatting correctly in FrameMaker 2022, except for the graphics, which are not scaling correctly. After importing, the images in the first factsheet are scaling below 50%. In the subsequent factsheets, the images are scaled larger, but not scaling to the correct size - 100%.We are not encountering this scaling issue with FrameMaker 11.In FrameMaker 2022, are there additional instructions that need to be added to the EDD, XSL, Rules file, etc. so that these images import to the correct size?

I’ve created a PDF from an unstructured FM document that needs to be downsized from 16MB to below 10MB.I can not compromise quality. The images are linked (not embedded) so I can understand why this PDF is so much bigger from previous years when the content hasn’t changed much. The typical PDF file size for this document has been 2-4 MBs and I’m using the same distiller option (high-quality print). I don’t know what’s so different.Although this same image was processed in smaller PDFs, I noticed one image file that was 21MB so I was able to downsize to 1.8 (keeping the quality); however, when I republished the PDF file size was barely reduced.There must be a default setting that changed or I missing that I need to adjust in my distiller options that won’t compromise the quality of the PDF out.Any suggestions? I am using a variation of @Russ Ward 's 100.04 Favorites menu from here: http://www.weststreetconsulting.com/WSC_ExtendScriptSamples.htm I modifed the script to change the order and to display and run macros rather than opening favorite documents. The script reads a text file where each line contains script name displayed, followed by ~~~~, followed by path to script, i.e.My script~~~~<Path to My Script> It works fine, but I would like to put two BLANK lines between commonly used scripts and rarely used scripts. I don't want  separator, I want blank lines ... (The script adds separators and that works well). If I try (in the text file) "  ~~~~~ "", the script changes that to a separator in the drop-down menu. If I use "<br>~~~~A", the script displays "<br>" in the drop-down. If I use "_~~~~A", the script displays "&&&&_" in the drop-down - not sure where the "&'s" come from. If I "&lt

Using FIND to change every incidence of a now-discredited font is laborious (and I'm not sure I'm catching them all). Is there a way to change EVERY paragraph format to one font (or better yet, font family) in some "global" way? 

Hi everyone, I have tables with conditions being applied to columns. In certain documents, I'd like to hide a specific column, so I hide the corresponding condition (e.g., Internal). Only one condition is applied to this column.In PDF, the column is hidden. But when I publish HTML5, the column is shown but empty.  What is more embarassing is that when I inspect the table using the browser's  Inspect tool, the content of the hidden table cells is shown in the HTML Elements view! As per Adobe, this issue seems to have been fixed in FM2017 Update 3:In a table containing conditional columns, the column marked to hide from the published output also gets published. (Ref - 3293) How come it re-emerged?The issue is so obvious that I wonder if Adobe run QA tests before releasing FrameMaker. This is embarassing. Really disappointed with the quality of the product.

I am using a variation of @Russ Ward 's 06.01 Notification script from here: http://www.weststreetconsulting.com/WSC_ExtendScriptSamples.htm I want the script to run a second script when a document is first opened and when the active document changes. Right now, the script just shows some confirmation dialogs, instead of running the other script. I'm looking for a way to remove a single change bar from the document using a script. I can do this manually, using Esc c h - Format>Style>Change Bar. Usually, I have to do this twice - partly b/c I'm not sure what text set the change bar initially, so I select beyond the text with the change bar, run the command (which sets the text as change bar text), and then run the command again (which removes the new and the original change bars.) Per the documentation:Fcodes ([FCodes.TXT_CHANGEBAR]);should work, but it doesn't seem to. I thought I would have to run it twice, but it doesn't even create the change bar if I run it once.Fcodes ([FCodes.TXT_BOLD]); does work so the syntax is correct. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a better way to do this? I haven't tried yet, but I might be able to ADD a change bar via script by turning on automatic change bars, adding a space, removing the added space, and turning automatic change bars back off. The bigg

This topic was asked in another post, but never answered: .svg images are not appearing in HTML5 generated in FrameMaker 2019 When I generate Responsive HTML5 output in FrameMaker 2020 (Version: 16.0.0.754), the output does not display SVG images. It displays all other formats, however, like PNG, BMP, etc.I tried selecting the "Convert SVG to Raster image" check box, and I also tried clearing it. I tried IE, Chrome, and Firefox. Nothing  seems to work. 

Is there a way to have the variables/cross-references highlighted or grayed out in text so you can see what fields are variables or cross-referenced, similar to Microsoft Word?

Hello everybody, we work with large manuals, so we structure the Chapters in the Book file with groups and/or folders. We also publish these manuals as Responsive HTML5. With FrameMaker 2019, all Book groups and folders were converted into corresponding folders. This created a structure with subfolders in the output. With FrameMaker 2022, these subfolders do not longer exist. All HTML files are still located in folders with the same name as the files themselves. However, these folders are now located directly under the main folder, meaning no parent folders are created for the groups. Is this a bug or a feature? Thanks for your help

I am currently importing a lot of graphics on the reference pages of a document. And I need to make these graphics fit to a specific frame, but the feature "Fit to Frame" is greyed out. This has happened to me many times in different document but now I would like to get to the bottom of this mystery. WHY does it only work sometimes? Are there specific circumstances I must adhere to?      

FrameMaker 2022. Should be simple, but I couldn't find an example. I don't want to use File>Save as PDF. Some of our authors don't have the Adobe PDF printer and it errors out, and I've also had it hang sometimes. I don't want to use Doc.SilentPrintDoc() b/c we don't always use the defaults, and also the selected printer might be Adobe PDF, Power PDF, Microsoft Print to PDF, and that might NOT be the default printer on the users system.I thought Fcodes([FCodes.KbdPrint]); would at least bring up the menu, but it doesn't seem to.Ideallly, what I want is to display the menu with the following settings:Page Range - AllDo Not Skip Blank PagesDo Not Print to FileDo Not Generate Acrobat DataUser will select the correct printerAlso - some of our documents use an odd paper size (8x5 inches). After I updated to FM 17.0.6 my custom workspace disappreared (unstructured). I seem to have the *.cfws file in my Windows 11 C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\17\WorkSpaces\UnStructured\WYSIWYGView folder, but panels in FM have disapeared completely. Reselecting my custom workspace does nothing. I have always saved my workspaces. Is there s away to recover my old customer workspace? Is this WYSIWYGView folder enough for making backup for the next update?

Hello! I need to download Adobe TCS to install it on devices within my organization. However, I’m facing an issue: when I click the download link, the download starts normally, but after about a minute, the speed slows down significantly and the file is marked as “finished” prematurely. I am working in structured FrameMaker. I have created a ditabook. In the ditabook the concept titles include chapter numbering.  After saving the ditabook as "2022 Book with FrameMaker Components" I attempted unsuccessfully to add auto chapter numbering. As shown below the unsuccessful attempt at numbering added numbers I don't need at the start of each chapter.  I know the chapter numbering is configured in paragraph designer, and I can remove it chapter by chapter,  but how do I remove the auto chapter numbering for the entire document?  

I've made many (> 10) attempts to install Framemaker 2022 on two different Windows 11 devices using a couple of different browsers. I was finally able to get it to install on my desktop computer, but I also want it on my laptop, and it will not install there. I have made a fresh download everytime, without success. Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this? Thank you.

Updating a 4 year-old document. Need to change all fonts in the document to Arial and basic variations of Arial.  Some paragraph formats in use in the document obediently change to Arial when I update them in Paragraph Designer, like "+ List" in the attached illustration. When I make the same change to "+ List 1", nothing happens. I've hit Apply and Update All and I'm certainly smart enough to select Remove Overrides.  Does anyone know why the paragraph "+ List 1" refuses to update?  Thanks!

Hi,I can't get FrameMaker to generate Mini TOCs in HTML5 output. I have a normal TOC that works fine, as well as Mini TOCs in each chapter that come out fin in PDF.I have added the following to the HTML Template (other customizations work fine, so it is properly imported):<!-- MiniTOC starts here--> <div data-type="minitoc" data-type-after="Body Heading_1 Heading_2"> <p data-type="minitoc-level1"></p> <p data-type="minitoc-level2"></p> </div> <!--MiniTOC ends here-->  Yet when the HTML is generated, the Mini TOC section is empty: <!-- MiniTOC starts here--> <!--MiniTOC ends here-->  I have tried with and without the 'data-type-after' attribute, as well as all combinations of FM styles, HTML styles, with and without quotes, etc. It just doesn't produce anything. Does anyone have any suggestions before I give up?
