Illustrator 2023 V27.3.1 consumers too much Macbook Pro energy and prevents USB-C monitor charging

I've recently noticed that my battery has been depleting in my Macbook Pro even though I've always been connected with a USB-C cable with compatible monitor for charging using that cable as well as for video display. This issue had been non-existent prior to updating to the latest version of Illustrator, 27.3.1 as of this posting.

With all other apps closed and only Illustrator running, my charging icon indicator shows that the battery is not charging and remains this way as long as Illustrator is running now. As soon as I quit the Illustrator application the battery charge icon changes to show that it is charging once again. This sequence of charging on/off status repeatedly occurs when Illustrator is launched and then quit.

This is a highly annoying issue that I hope can be resolved in a future update soon.

Thanks for reaching out. As suggested by Kevin, it could be possible that the charging via your Display USB-C is limited to 65W, which is less than the ideal power requirement that is provided by the 96W USB‑C Power Adapter that comes in the box. You may try switching to using 2 cables for display and charging when using power-hungry apps on your MacBook and checking if it helps.

Yeah I did try out the previous suggestions but they did not help with the issue. Noting that I'm using an Intel-based Macbook Pro and a colleague is using an M1 and has no issues so that might be part of the cause here. I'd prefer not to modify my workstation setup to accomodate what seems like a software optimization issue. I resolved this issue on my own by downgrading to Illustrator 26.5.2 which is marked as a long term support version and USB-C charging via the monitor (lg-27un850-w) is working once again. Illustrator 27.3 is a power hog and should be optimized to run more efficiently.
