I have been working on a project that require that I export pdfs from illustrator. Often times the pdf is meant for client to review progress and give feedback but I find that when I use export for screens (cmd+Opt+E) I'm able to simiply select specific artboards and save those out as a single pdf file but because I save through this method I never see the pdf 'save as dialogue box' and so the pdf is automatically saved with editing capabilities and I don't want that. I have combed through setting from 'General to Devices' and I can't find any setting that allows me to turn off editing capabilities for pdfs permanently until I want to turn it on. If there is a setting like tha,t I will be glad to know it. If not, then I really think that I'll need that setting on the next update cause I can't keep reopening a pdf just to save as so I can access the save as options only to turn off editing capabilities. 

It may seem counterintuitive, but too many popups, tooltips, start screens, etc. etc. etc...actually slowdown the productivity and don't really help all that much and are quite annoying.If there is a way to disable all of them for good, that would be great!(my 2 cents is to have video tutorials "if" needed)Thanks

My Mac Studio running the previous OS was replaced and M1 Ultra loaded with Ventura. I opened up my old project and noticed the colors are over saturated. Then when I tried to use the color picker to sample an RGB JPEG I noticed the color was slightly off.   In Illustrator I have these settings.Document Color: RGBColor Settings: North America General Purpose 2Work Spaces: RGB sRGB IEC61966-2.1GPU Performance: Off Now in my my Mac Display Settings I have the Colore Profile set to SAMSUNG. I am using a Samsung M8 which I was using before on my old Workstation with no color problems. I switched my setting to sRGB in an attempt to match my Illustrator settings but it looked worse. It looked more saturated.  Is anyone else having this problem? 

Hello, I am new to Adobe Illustrator. I currently work as a technical illustrator. Most of the time, we do things by hand and minimally edit illustrations. However, lately, there has been a need for fully vectorized drawings so that drawings can be edited digitally more extensively. I tried applying image trace, but then all fine stippling and other features disappeared. Is there any other way to process or vectorize with image trace? Adding a sample for a better idea.  Thanks for your help in advance. 

I have come across an issue with rounded corners. I noticed a difference in the corner appearance if I swap the order of FX layers Round Corners and Offset Path. It appears that Round Corners as top layer and Offset Path as bottom layer is the configuration that preserves the original radius of the rounded corner (no visible bulging between the two). I realise that AI uses Bezier curves for circles but was not expecting an issue here.Attached is a self-explanatory editable pdf attachment with four layers:1- Path is directly offset (no FX), then rounded with FX. RED2- Path is offset with FX, then rounded with FX. YELLOW3- Path is rounded with FX, then offset with FX. GREEN -- offset path that looks correct to me with respect to original path.4- Path is rounded with FX. No offset. ORANGE -- original path that I want to offset.Zoom in on a corner and turn on/off a layer to compare. Does AI apply FX from top layer to bottom layer?I'm sure Monika will love this!  😄

Hi all, Beginner to Illustrator here. I've recently updated to Illustrator 28.5 to create DXF files for our laser engraver (which in turn uses EZCad2 14.11). When I export to DXF from this version of Illustrator, EZCad does not display the text objects. Upon investigating by opening the DXF files with AutoCAD, I found that text was converted to splines and hatches inside a block...that is inside another block. This did not happen when I was using Illustrator 24.3; text exported as splines and hatches in blocks. DXF files exported from this version had no issues with EZCad. The final redundant block, I presume, is why it does not import properly. Is there any way to remedy this? Thanks! Whenever I create a new document on illustrator it gives me 2 pages even though I clearly selected 1,and when re opening documents they open in a slim window on the LHS window. What is wrong with this? I erased computer and installed everything from scratch and this is happening!!! anybody else having this issue??

To select a graidnet for a pathItem in a layer I would do this:colLayer.fillColor = gradColor;gradColor being a new GradientColor()How would I be able to select a preexisitng gradient to fillColor?In example using:app.activeDocument.gradients[0]So something like:colLayer.fillColor = app.activeDocument.gradients[0]

I'm writing an extension where some of the functionality requires me to create a div in the CEP panel where the background of the div is the same as the currently selected swatch. Doing this for solid colors is no problem (just set the div background-color property to be the hex value of the color), but if the swatch is a gradient or a pattern, I'm not sure how to create a div that reflects that. Does anybody know how to accomplish this?

After installing textures from the Substance 3D website, the "3D and Materials" panel in Illustrator does not work and does not open, Illustrator just closes.- I have tried reinstalling Illustrator.

I have a logo file, saved as PNG, that is black on transparent.  Very simple file, just stylized black lettering on a transparent background. In Illustrator CS5, I can place that file, do a "Live Trace" in "Lettering" mode, and Illustrator will correctly ignore the transparent areas when I expand the trace.  After expanding, I'm left with scalable paths and an easy way to change the fill color to have the logo work with my background.Fast forward to Illustrator CS6.  I try to do the same thing but a) there is no "lettering" preset for Image Trace and b) there is no setting I have yet found to cause Illustrator to ignore the transparent areas when I expand.  If I then fill, everything inside the bounds of the placed image (the square containing the logo) is filled with that color.  The only way I've found to get similar results is to go through the layers panel after the Expand and deselect each piece of the image that should not be filled.  I have a hard t

I have already enabled the Animated Zoom function in GPU performance. I learned that the "GPU Performance is not available on Mac OS." Illustrator simply selects which document this functionality is enabled or not. How do I fix this insane error? My system and softwares is already updated.

Sin embargo, en mi caso, no puedo ver dónde quedará el objeto hasta que no suelto el ancla. Necesito recuperar esa opción de previsualización y no logro encontrarla por ningún lado. My department is migrating from intel MBPs to current M2 MBPs [2023 16-inch, M2 Max, 32GB ram]. We often use very large placed images, and often those images use transparency. Images over 30k px are common for certain clients - building wraps, etc. The long-time workflow for these has been placed TIFFs. It's always been slow, but reliable. Placing these images now no longer creates a preview and will outright fail under certain conditions, like relinking the high res from a placeholder (beach ball, then clear like it worked, but the link is unchanged; no error). Limited testing also shows that the placed file fails to output (as in, the image isn't there in operations like 'Save as PDF'). Lastly, files problematic in this way generate an error when saved/reopened, "An error occurred trying to read the linked file" <name>. Today's file happens to be 27600x19727 px (~1.5GB on disk). Currently it's one layer (flattened from a source fully layered PSD) with alpha transparen

How can I recover a file in PDF format, whose text when I open it in Illustrator appears all in curves? That is, how can I recover the text and images that have been embedded when saved as a pdf. I don't have the original .ai file 😞Is there any add-on or trick to do it?

I seem to be having an issue with linked images in files. Even if these files are packaged and saved in the exact same place, illustrator is unable to find them. I often get another error that reads: "Could not find plug-in to read linked file "Xxxxxx" Choose replace to selecter another" I don't know if I have removed an important plugin by accident when clearing the cache? or if there is some other reason for these messages? Hope you can help! Thanks,Michael

This isn't just Illustrator but these AI pop ups need to stop. I know you at Adobe have a real hardon for this "game changer" feature, but I just want to do my normal workflow without every single step from Illustrator to Photoshop to Creative Cloud itself trying to get me to make some novelty rubbish. I get that I can use it, and I get that it "only" prompts 3 times after an update, but updates are so frequent and Beta's are so frequent that the prompts are off less time than they are on. Quit it.

I'm running an Illustrator ExtendScript on MacOS and am trying to get the user initials without having to ask for them from the user.  I thought I could try using the long user name from the system as one option... I can use this Shell command to return the initials: dscl . -read /Users/$(whoami) RealName | tail -n 1 | awk '{ for(i=1;i<=NF;i++) printf "%s", tolower(substr($i,1,1)) }' Or this AppleScript: tell application "System Events" set fullName to words of (long user name of (system info)) set initials to "" repeat with namePart in fullName set initials to initials & character 1 of namePart end repeat return initials end tell How do I run either of these from the Illustrator .jsx and get the results returned to it? I tried saving the Applescript code above in a .app on the Desktop and called it with the following code, but can't figure out how to get the results returned back into the original .jsx: var applescript = new File("

When using Draw inside, I can't select the object. This has been happening for quite a while. I have a bear - his belly and his nose are draw in side of the shapes. All the parts are grouped together. If I use the selection tool on the tail, ear or the legs I can move him as expected.   First screenshot shows move tool over leg and smart guides - everything work as it should.  I can't us the move tool to move the goup over the head or the belly - second screenshot shows how the move tool doesn't grab the object but drags out a selection box instead. As long as I continue to drag outside the bounds, it will select the whole group, but then I have to click to drag again to move the bear. It should just grab, select and move the entire group with one mouse click. 

Hello everyone, I am looking for a solution to vectorize a pattern that I created. I applied my pattern in simple shapes, but now I would like to vectorize everything and I can't find how to vectorize the shapes into a pattern... help please !!!

Hi,When switching to Outline mode, the screen starts flashing / flickering in black and white during zoom in or out. View attached clip for reference. My GPU drivers are updated already.Nvidia RTX 3060v551.61 please fix this in the next release.

In the last 2-3 weeks, I have been experiencing an issue with the direct selection tool.  If I click on an object, there is a pause and then the whole object is moved to a random spot.  If I attempt to select two items to group together, there is a pause then the two items are yanked out of position.  If I click on an object to duplicate it, instead of just selecting it, it moves it to wherever my mouse goes.  It is as though the selection tool has become "sticky" and "laggy" at the same time.  I am on a 2021 Macbook running Sonoma 14.5 using a mighty mouse. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator, but there was no improvement.  Every task is taking 1000 times longer than it should because I am constantly putting objects back where they were. What is happening and how do I get it to stop!!
