I have created a facing pages documnet. (sample idml attached).Bleeds are given 3.175mm all sides. Ideally inside bleed should be ignored by pdf and Indesign. When I create pdf, in page 2 and 3, in fact, in all the pages, I see a bleed gap. Ideally it should show the output as it shows in Indesign alongwith the crop marks. What am I doing wrong? Thanks IDML and PDF attached.
After the recent update to InDesign 19.4, I noticed some changes made to how InDesign handles footnotes for EPUBs. Previously, it used a <div> with <p> for footnotes, which worked fine. However, they've now switched to using a <list>, which is causing issues. This change completely overlooked that InDesign footnotes also have numbering and preceding characters. As a result, the output is quite ridiculous. Of course, I can fix this by changing the list-style to none in the _idFootAndEndNoteOLAttrs style, but the update mentioned, "Version 19.4 provides fixes for important functional, stability, and performance issues," yet the EPUB part seems to be a mess... I don't know what to say.I'm using the Traditional Chinese environment, and I'm not sure if other language versions of InDesign 19.4 have similar issues.
Hey guys, i need to make a productcatalog for my work. We have millions of products listed in an excel sheet. It looks like this: Now i am designing the book and need to import the sheet into my indesign file. However, even after placing/importing it in millions of ways this is the way it imports into indesign (empty): What am i doing wrong?
Why is it not spellchecking if it's on autocorrect?
Hi, I'm creating an order form that needs to have multiple options for configuring items. You can see the table I've set up in the attached file. I'd like to add dropdowns to some of these cells and text fields to others, but when I open the Buttons and Forms panel, I can't instert things into the table cells, it just wants to make the entire text box a button or form. Acrobat is pretty dodgy about getting the forms right, so I was hoping to do it all in Indesign.Does anyone have experience with something like this? Or an easier way to do it?
After I updated to MacOs 14.4, I got this weird bug when zooming pages using Opt+mouse scroll wheel. I can see the vertical and horizontal scroll bar sizes changes as I am zooming, but the main view is not updated. The moment I move my mouse, the main view also get updated. This is very frustrating, because I cannot see the size while I am zooming. This worked fine in MacOs 14.2. To reproduce the bug:Zooming seems to work initially when opening a document, and the error seems sometimes to be triggered if I Space+drag when I have the mouse pointer on (positioned on) one of the pages. If I have the cursor outside any page (in the grey area) while initiating a Space+drag the issue sometimes magically goes away until I Space+drag with cursor positioned on one of the pages again. I can turn the bug on/off by doing this. Sometimes is also seems to matter if I zoom with the cursor inside or outside the pages. Running InDesign 19.2 on MacOs Sonoma 14.4 on a Mac Studio M2.
I want to read a asset from indesign Library. Place it in the textframe and move it to an frame. But when I am using cannot move the assets by position. Kindly help me to drag the asset to the position. Dim versoRectContiueAsset As AssetversoRectContiueAsset = getAssetFromLibrary("TB-con")versoRectContiueAsset.PlaceAsset(indesignApplication.ActiveDocument) It copies the library and place in the pasteboard. Kindly help me to move it the page 2. textframe 2
How can I change the direction of these pages from 'right to left' to 'left to right'?
I'm running into an issue that I can't seem to figure out.. hopeful someone might be able to offer some guidance. I've got my Indesign file looking the way I want it to on the computer, but when I go to export it to PDF and then print from that file, I get these undesirable dark boxes around my graphics.. see pictures. What's strange is if I print directly from InDesign, it looks correct. Why would that be happening? Is there a setting that I'm missing? I've set the export to PDF X1A and set the output to 'Convert to Destination' and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Why would it look different from the PDF when printed? but look fine when printed directly from InDesign? Thanks,Paul
I'm opening an IDML document using ExtendScript. I want to register events for all the page loading events at the time of document opening.I'm getting document specific events e.g. "beforeNew", "beforeOpen", "afterNew", "afterOpen" etc but i'm not able to get EventListeners for events related Pages, PagesItems etc.Can you please suggest what is the best way to register and get events for pages specific events during document opening in the ExtendScript ? My main objective is to apply specific MasterPages to the pages being loaded at the time of document opening. Later i intend to adjust the Widths of all the inlined items of a story as per the width of the MasterPage applied. Any pointers or suggestions will be much appreciated.
In the past I've had occasional issues with longer documents when scrolling down screens would reach one where the text displays as garbled. It would be fixed when scrolling past and back again. But I guess with a recent update it has gotten a lot worse. Probably every 12 pages or so it happens. It's harmless but when you're nearing the final proof of a book it is very disconcerting. Are there display settings within ID that can reduce/eliminate this?ID 19.4 on OS 14.5 on a MacBookPro with M2 chip and external display.
Hello! I work at a small community college and we need to convert our existing materials from English to Spanish and then going forward, all materials will need to be produced in both English and Spanish. I have done some light research trying to find the best option for our small college. I tend to lean towards purchasing a subscription to Redukon or something similar where I can upload, translate, download, and then tweak the file knowing there will be a considerable amount of extra characters. But the control freak in me likes the idea of a plug-in such as ID Extra's Translate where I can translate and tweak the file as I go. I am concerned about the pay-as-you-go model since we will have a lot of materials that will need translation on an ongoing basis. My question is for those of you who have translated multiple documents, what would you recommend and why? Am I missing any other alternative way to translate our materials?Thank you for your help!
The file name is double at the top of open InDesign files. How do I turnb this off? Thanks.
Bonjour,je cherche à placer les notes de bas de page ailleurs que dans le bloc où se trouve la dite note. JE peux que mes notes arrivent dans le bloc que je souhaite, pour pouvoir le positionner où je veux. Comment faire ?-----Hello,I am looking to place the footnotes somewhere other than in the block where the footnote is located. I want my footnotes to go into the block that I want, so that I can position it wherever I want. How can I do that?
Merci !!
Can someone help me with a challenge, please? We produce A4 reports (120 pages) and display them as digital and print editions. The digital versions run as A3 landscape DPS (i.e. two pages on display at once). The print versions have to output as single A4 pages, with a 3mm bleed all round. Is it possible to output both versions from the same InDesign file, please? If so, how? Thank you!
Good afternoon,Does anyone know why or how I can fix my file window within InDesign. It seems to have a duplicate filename in the window view and I don't know what I hit to engage that view. Thanks
I want to place an excel spreadsheet into my InDesign file. In the place dialog box/formatting section I selected the Table: Formatted Table but the next dropdown menu for Table Style: is grayed out so I can't select the table style. I have been able to do that in the past. Is it a bug? I have been playing around with it some and I find if I click on the table style on the panel in the interface BEFORE I go to the Place dialog, that table style will be pre-populated in the Table style dropdown, but only that style. (I have three table styles in the document).
My team uses InDesign books all the time so multiple people can work on a project simultaneously. Books are supposed to only allow one person to open each file within the book. If someone already has a file open, the book is supposed to show a lock icon next to that file and no one else can open it. However, this week, InDesign has stopped doing this. It allows us to open a file in the book even if someone already has that file open. Instead of making the file read-only like the few previous times we've had this problem, InDesign allows both people to edit and save their changes, and makes a new duplicate file when saving the second person's edits. This is a very frustrating problem, because we now have to check ourselves if someone else has each file open - which InDesign is supposed to do and has always done before - and manually re-merge duplicate files. At one point a file in our most recent book had FOUR duplicates because of this bug! Does anyone else have this iss
Hi,This is a 2c colour book; open the PDF file because black does not appear on PDF files. Only pantone colours are presented. However, simulate overprinting in the separation preview to PDF files and visible black colour. How to fix the issues. Please check and advise. I have attached screenshot for your reference.
I am working on a book with fairly complex documents. InDesign was running slow and was crashing, so somewhere while working on the book I had to reset my preferences. All the documents in the book were still pretty slow/laggy, but I figured that was just because they had a lot going on (many different styles, images, cross-references, captions, etc.). But now I think the problem is with the book itself. Today I worked on a new chapter, and InDesign worked quickly and smoothly for the entire layout. When I was nearly finished doing the layout, I realized I had forgotten to add the document to the book file, so I went ahead and added it at the end. I updated all numbers for the book, and then when the numbers finished updating I went back in to do a final lookover and fix any mistakes. Performance immediately dropped to barely a crawl. Even just scrolling through the document was janky and slow. Actually making any changes to the document, even small ones such as replacing a single
Indesign CS5 MacHave a lage document with portraits - 1 of the portraits needs to come out and need to shift them over. In Quark you could copy and past image into another image box and get same scale and X&Y location. I have tried the direct selection tool copied the image and paste into the empty box next to it but the scale is off. Is there a work around this in Indesign.
Any suggestions on how to make this work properly? The code like it is, the maxvlue of scrollbar shows nothing and my array of items (which has 50 elements) shows up to #40. (PS: if I change my array's length to 30, for example, all items are shown, but there is still blank space at the bottom).Any help will be appreciated. var array = new Array (50); var w = new Window("dialog" , "Scroll test"); w.maximumSize.height = 300; var p = w.add("panel" , undefined , "Scroll group"); p.margins.top = 20; p.maximumSize.height = w.maximumSize.height-30; var g = p.add("group"); g.orientation = "column"; g.alignChildren = "left"; g.alignment = ["fill","bottom"]; for (var i=0; i<array.length; i++) { g.add("statictext" , undefined , "Item " + (i+1)); } var scrollBar = p.add("scrollbar"); scrollBar.stepdelta = 10; scrollBar.maximumSize.height = g.maximumSize.height; scrollBar.onChanging = function () { g.location.y = -1 * this.value; } w.onShow = function() {
While working on a project, I made sure to fit the red, yellow and light-red boxes right next to each other. However, when I export to PDF this alignment is off. In my picture, on the left you can see they fit perfectly. On the right side you can see the PDF-version, where there is somehow a sliver of the bark-red background picture visible. This is not the only place in my document where this happens, but there are also places where the PDF does show the perfect alignment from my indesign document. Because this document is meant for printing and I need to deliver it to the printers as a PDF, I need this sliver of background to not show up in the final product. I would love some tips on how to make sure my alignment sticks while converting to PDF
