How can I prevent Photoshop from automatically cropping my CR2 image to the ratio it was shot in

Try turning off automatic lens profile settings. If that doesn't work, open the files in Canon's Digital Photo Professional and reset the crop there. In the future, don't shoot cropped in-camera as Adobe has problems with it.

The RAW File may have ACR settings that have a crop setting you would need to reset that crop setting.  ACR Default settings should not have a Crop Setting.  Previously process RAW files can have Crop Settings

Guys perhaps I haven't made clear enough what the issue is. Here are a couple of screenshots to demonstrate what exactly the problem I'm having.

I have Canon camera and here is what I see in Bridge when shoting 1:1 in cr2 and JPEG format, they both look the same: square. Notice the Crop tool icon in the top right corner, that's the key. Raw file still contains data outside the crop while JPEG does not, it is square image without any chance to reset it to normal 3:2 ratio.

The only solution which I found so far is following:

• Right cick on image in Bridge > Open With > Photoshop.
• Activate the Crop tool in ACR.
• Press Esc key.
• Click on Open to open image in Photoshop, it opens full uncropped image in Photoshop.
• Thumbnail in Bidge will change to normal.
• Note: you can also reset crop by opening image in ACR from Bridge then activating and reseting crop as explained in steps 2 and 3 then click on Done button in ACR to confirm and save changes.

When you crop an image you are cutting off image content. That is what cropping does. If you use Content Aware scale to change your 3:2 Aspect Ratio camera's image to an Image with a square 1:1 Aspect Ratio most of your scaled images contents will not be acceptable to you. There will be too much unacceptable distortion.  If you use Content Aware Scale interactivity and do some masking for Content Aware Scale you may be able to get acceptable results for some images. You should not expect to be able to rescale a landscape or portrait  close up of a person head resized to a 1:1 aspect ration and see an acceptable human head.

You'll want to change your camera settings to full-frame and not 1:1, which is a square crop. Some cameras ignore this internal cropping information when capturing RAW files and some literally crop to 1:1.

1:1 ratio is literally square. If you shot 1:1 then that's what you have in whatever format you shot image.
