Question

Photoshop tools not working- even after reset all tools.

Hello. I'm working to clean up a pencil sketch on a JPG scan. I use the magic wand tool to select areas to work on, but instead, it selects the pencil outlines. Sometimes, it selects the entire page—as if it were a Mask. The paintbrush and stamp tools will not work on a chosen layer. I reset all tools, and the layer is not locked.

Unfortunately, I just upgraded to Mac Sequoia 15.1. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall photoshop? Help!

Apologies for not looking into my other posts for replies, but I am behind trying to get a workload out.

Hey, @rgbnites. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need some more info to help you figure this out.

Let me know if you've tried adjusting the tolerance settings on the magic wand tool. Also, have you checked if there are any active selections or masks that might be affecting your work?

As a precaution, I recommend backing up your Photoshop preferences. You can find the steps for that here: https://adobe.ly/3VcjO5V

This can help ensure you don't lose any custom settings if we need to reset anything.

Please keep me updated on how it goes, and feel free to share any other troubleshooting steps you've already attempted!

Thanks!
