Video visible when in trial mode, disappears immediately after entering license key; reproducible

Hi - I'm new to Premiere Elements but a seasoned computer user and experienced with various video editing programs. I have a strange problem that is a show stopper for me and hope you might be able to help.

Before purchasing Premiere Elements I ran a number of my AVI files through the trial version. Everything was great. After I purchased a license from Adobe.com and entered the key into the system I immediately noticed that any AVI content I imported no longer displayed video on the timeline/preview window. Audio played buy the video was black.

After trying a number of things including a complete reinstall of PE 2022, I eventually logged out of my Adobe account to de-eauthorize the computer and revert to trial mode. Immediately upon starting PE2022 and importing a file video was again visible (albeit with the trial watermark). This is a reproducible problem (works with multiple files, can toggle video issue on/off based on license state).

Below is the MediaInfo for one of the files which had previously been captured from a Digital8 video camera over firewire using Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

The file plays fine in VLC and Windows Media Player. It just wont display in Photoshop Elements IF the software is licensed.

I subsequently imported an old video file recorded on an iPhone (MediaInfo details below). A different issue is seen - rather than a black screen, I see the video with a green filter applied. The file has no green filter applied when in trial mode and plays fine in VLC and Windows Media Player. So something is off.

My laptop config is as follows;

> Lenovo Yoga 370; i7-7500U; 16 GB RAM; 2 TB SSD

> Windows 11 Pro 2H21 (22000.348)

> Premiere Elements 2022

> Intel HD Graphics 620

Windows is fully up to date including all optional drivers installed.

Any tips/suggestions? I plan to try to reproduce on a Windows 10 machine today but my ideal platform would be Windows 11.

Thank you

Grant

This is a strange issue.

As this is 2022 I would contact support over chat.

Might want to try and delete all media cache, rename topfolder the footage is in and reimport.

Green usually means: update graphicdriver.

Hi Ann,

Yes - everything has been run on W11. I used Sony Video Capture 6.0 when creating the AVI file.

Note: I have just performed the same tests with a Windows 10 machine (Dell Precision T1700, AMD FirePro 1400, Windows 10 Pro, 16 GB) and there are no issues with the video playback. So this is definitely a Windows 11 teathing issue. While I like the new Windows 11 features, I'm going to switch back to Windows 10 and move forward with my project.

Thanks for the reply.

I googled for "Windows 11 avi codec" and "Windows 11 dvsd codec".   I found some interesting reading about Windows 11 not having all the codecs that some need.  Since you are a "a seasoned computer user and experienced with various video editing programs" I won't post the links.   One user of Premiere Pro created some ".avi" files that played well but would not play on another computer he/she had.
