Hi guys,There may be a simple answer to my problem, but I can't work out what has gone wrong . . .Okay, I start up DW and then click on the right hand pane to bring up the webpage I want to work on.The problem is that the webpage is not showing up as it used to, it was displaying as it would when uploaded to my website. It now displays (in design view) no background, images show up but not as on website and looks completely different as it did a couple of days ago.I've gone through all the various 'view' options but can't get back to the way DW displayed as before.Any help would be of great help. Thanks in anticipation,Andywww.sport-on-wheels.com
I have just spent an exceedingly frustrating half-hour trying to post a few lines of JS to help out an Indesign user. I originally tried via email; this worked, up to a point, except that some of the spaces used to format the code legibly appeared as HTML codes at the forum and in the email notification. I then tried to edit the post and could not get the edit box to show what I put there. I gave up and attached the code as a txt file.Does anyone have a foolproof method of posting code at the forum?Noel
@#$%&?!!!“What does one call the use of random non-alphabet characters to indicate cursing? It’s a universally understood device, and is applied in both graphic and textual settings. It is such a commonly accepted staple that I assumed it must already be defined and described — but apparently it’s not.”But it is! The term is grawlix, and it looks to have been coined by Beetle Bailey cartoonist Mort Walker around 1964. Though it’s yet to gain admission to the Oxford English Dictionary, OED Editor-at-Large Jesse Sheidlower describes it as “undeniably useful, certainly a word, and one that I’d love to see used more.”In case the link above doesn't work, use this:http://www.typography.com/ask/showBlog.php?blogID=122And before certain people jump on me for the relevance of this in a post in the "What's wrong with the forums?" forum it's just this... Most of you use these symbols instead of the actual words/alphabets. Just thought you'd be i
I compare Adobe now to what General Motors was for the last few decades. GM was a large corporation that built quality cars for many years. They even produced the Cadillac. A name brand once known and respected all over the world. It was not uncommon to hear; "This television is the Cadillac of televisions". Starting in the 1970's they started to let quality slide. The fit and finish of their products obviously was not as good. Reliability declined. This drop in quality occurred while imported cars were gaining sales. GM's response during the 80's & 90's was to continue building cars that the doors and paint fell off. Pouring money into advertizing seemed to be the answer to the people at the top. Changing name plates became their strategy. No real attempt was made to fix the problems, only to cover them up. Customer complaints were ignored. Repairs involved shortcuts. Now Adobe. A highly respected compan
Look at the questions on the Photoshop forum. These are mostly questions from the new beginners with the same level of issues we used to have when we were just getting started. It's time for them to have at it on their own. They will work things out among themselves with Adobe Expert help. The warhorses that have been so helpful on the forums for the past decades are now gone to greener pastures. I'm joining that crowd, so thanks for the professional expertise and help through the years, plus a sense of humor that has meant a lot, plus an occasional aside.Best to All,Ken
I was a contributor, a corrector, a clarifier.I'd write 1,500 words explaining every possible angle on the simplest of topics, sometimes revealing tricks to people who have far more experience with Photoshop than I do. I exercised painstaking detail in choosing the proper terminology and phrasing when answering questions, and I'd test everything to make sure what I posted was correct. I was an obsessive re-editor of my posts if I noticed the wording was wrong, or didn't flow well. I'd craft screen shot composites so clean you couldn't tell they weren't monitor images that could occur natively. I added arrows, and numbering, and translucent, colored-box paragraph backgrounds for descriptors, colors chosen for the best clarity I could muster. I'd bodge together difficult GIF animations and QT Movies if it would help a user understand a concept more completely.I was a defender, a protector, an evangelist.I took it personally when newbies and spammers would come in and muck the place up. If it was, there would not be so many questions here at allIt took Adobe Illustrator about 5 Versions to even be near CompleteSomeday they will finish itBut for now we all have to suffer with Arcane Tedious Code Problems
Still getting 404 error when I click on the last post link. this happens inconsistently it really sucks though. Is this Jived up software ever going to get fixed or replaced? anytime soon.
I forgot that threads are extremely short lived in this forum, and the discussion that really began within an unrelated thread, here Pierre Courtejoie, "Shouldn't these links be removed as soon as possible?" #8, 27 Feb 2005 1:21 pm has already gone to the Archives, where it is in danger of going to the limbus in the near future. I still think that this is an important issue, and still wait to see any improvement in those forums showing that the messages by Pierre and myself on the subject have not fallen in a void. Although we both value and thank Neil Keller for his attempts to get some reaction in higher quarters, his attempts have unfortunately been a failure. It is pathetic to see pages in the forums in Spanish with templates that are written in a mixture of English and a very bad Spanish. It is even more pathetic that JC stopped more than a year ago feeling authorized to introduce any non trivial change to improve this situation. The worst part is however to feel that there i
Yep, I'm on another Adobe forum right now, clicking "Next" (both the top and bottom link), and clicking page "2". They all do the same thing-- it scrolls to the top of the screen, and STAYS on page 1.Meanwhile, THIS forum works perfectly fine, both next and page links.Chrome 2.0.172.33"Google Chrome is up to date", it says. A simple page link should work. But even if it wasn't up to date, this inconsistent and seemingly random behavior of JiveJax (Jive's garbage implementation of Ajax) is completely buggy and not production worthy. Not production worthy, even in a Dunkin Donuts web discussion forum. Heck, even more irrelevant and useless--not production worthy of being used as forum software for Congress! So is this a new bug, or has it also been reported 50 times? Funny that ever since I decided to stop ignoring weird stuff like this (page reloads tend to fix this stuff), posting bug reports instead (perhaps I should just say just posting here instead, since Adob
It has been four days since the turn over to the new forum and the NNTP news feed where turned off. This was the first time most NNTP users learned of the change since the new forum was not mentioned on the news feeds. If one used a news reader to access the forums one seldom, if ever, accessed the web user interface which was the only place the announcement of the pending new forum was. Thus there have been some very active threads about the lack of NNTP access to these forums.1) NO NNTP News Feed = A loss of a lot of helpful people.2) Bring back NNTP forum or I'm quitting3) Please bring back NNTP4) Bring back nntp accessIf you review these threads you will find a lot of people who are not going to continue to use these forums without NNTP access and detailed reasons why the e-mail and rss feed are NOT acceptable as a substitute. This is my resignation letter. I will not be contributing as much as I am used to doing. I may not have been the most prolific or most
HelloI have a vertical spry menu bar next to a youtube player on my site. On PC fire Fox and IE the menu always hides behind the player.I have the player in a separate div from the menu. I tried to give the menu div a higher z-order value of three and the player div 1.When I tried to open the page after this I got an error message before it would bring the the video screen up.I also tried giving the html from youtube a z-order within the div, and once again got the error message.I also tried making the position setting for "visible" with no success. Thank you for your time and helpTerry Katehttp://www.romanceinthebackseat.com
Hey Folks,My work and personal laptop are unable to access any forum on the Adobe site using Internet Explorer. If I enable debugging, the errors that I receive before the webpage fails to respond include:'Jive' is undefined'JiveSpotLightSearch' is undefined'JiveViewThreads' is undefinedLine: 2325 Error: Object ExpectedThese all seem to be related to Jive Softwares "Clearspace" software that is used on the Adobe site. None of the forums, Yahoo, or google seem to have any information on this problem. It has got to be a missing add-on, a security setting, or some other inocculous problem.I had to load Firefox just to access this forum to post this thread !Thanks in advance for your help,EricPs Please don't advise me to use a difference browser or update to I.E. 8. My work has me locked into I.E. 7
I am a student at TAFE in Australia. TAFE, like many institutions have insufficient funds to upgrade their software. Anyone that knows Premiere Pro and After Effects will be aware that these programs do not save down to previous versions. Premiere Pro will not even open output from older versions (i.e. CS3 will not open CS2 output). I own both CS3 and CS4 versions of these products, but failed a unit last semester, because I couldn't find a copy of CS2 and could not complete my assigments to deadline. Adobe won't help me. No retailer can provide a copy of CS2, so I am now appealing to anyone who can assist. Can anyone provide a CS2 version of Premiere Pro and/or After Effects.I own both a Macintosh and a PC, but because Premiere Pro on the Macintosh cannot produce AVI files I would prefer to get PC version of that software. I use Audition (a sound editor for those that don't use it) and have found that Quicktime movies will import into Audition,
10. Jul 10, 2009 12:01 PM in response to: Kenneth Benson Re: Alternating cell fills We hosts got word yesterday or the day before that after months of testing and tracking stuck files, Jive has rolled out a fix this week (yesterday, I think) that is supposed to cure the queue problem. We've heard that before, so we'll see. Peter http://forums.adobe.com/message/2098802?tstart=0#2098802
At the bottom of a thread page there's a link to reply to original post or go to original post. I would like to see a back to discussion option. On loads of forums you have a jump to board selection as well. I don't really find Adobe Forums particularly easy to navigate around generally.Martin
All it does is send you back to the top of the screen. Useless. And I can see why, here's the link: http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments#I finally get brave enough to try clicking the button, and it doesn't work--shocking. At least it didn't format the hard drive, had a 50/50 chance of getting Jived on that one.
And the reasons are...1. "Search Forums" - what happened to "Search THIS Forum"? I don't want to search ALL forums. I NEVER want to search ALL forums. Does anybody?2. Doesn't "remember me". The old one did. All the phpBB forums I'm subscribed to do just fine.3. New->write post? No. New->Discussion->Choose Forum (I'm already IN a forum)->write post. Cumbersome - too many steps. Just let me click one thing to write a post.4. Should have moved all the old forum content into the new ones. Now we lose all that historical info - or have to dig for it somewhere else, I know not where...But they are pretty, which really helps a lot.- Bob
(This may behave differently in other browsers?)Why is it that Jive went to all the trouble of implementing crummy Ajax to load other pages of a thread--but they didn't bother to create 'shortcut links' that scrolls the screen to a user's post (when you click on the username link to see what a post is in reply to). Instead, what happens for me at least, we get an entirely reloaded page which then scrolls to the post for the link you clicked. I mean come on: I remember putting together web pages when I was a kid that could do that correctly, without a page reload--and it was easy!!!New definition of Jive at dictionary.com: -noun1) An amateur developer, particularly one who develops web forums in IT. ex. Jives are cheap to hire, but will negatively affect your bottom line unless you have exceptionally dishonest salespeople.-verb1) To screw over. ex. Wow, you really jived that company up this time!-adjective1) Extremely slow, to such an extreme as to render unusable. ex. These
Title says it all. Jive sucks!
I swear I just noticed a thread where it had almost random things for the "Last Post" next to the link to view the thread.(Either that or someone put crack in something I recently consumed.)First time I see a thread (which hadn't been added to in three days) with the original poster as the LAST post (but in reality in the thread, it was my own post that was last). Also, the date was ONE day old it claimed--which explains why I saw it on the third page. Not the FIFTH page which I later found the thread on after not seeing it on the 3rd page. So then when I find it on the 5th page (???) it says that I had the last post, three days ago. What the h*** is going on here? I couldn't have confused it with another, the original poster has a grand total of SEVEN posts. Now I'm not sure if I was hitting the "next" link or the numbers themselves...Please, someone tell me it's just crack and not yet another JiveBug©.
Is it just me or when you hit reply in any thread in the Reader forum, the attach file option is nowhere to be found and the camera is grayed out?
Discussion started in the wrong place, so I started a new discussion in the right place, with a link to the right placePlease lock this discussion http://forums.adobe.com/thread/459796?tstart=0
I am working on a project with a deadline. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. My camera is a Sony Digital Video Recorder DCR-HC26. My computer is a Dell with OS of Windows Vista. I have been capturing numerous clips from hundreds of mini digital video cassettes. Yesterday, I attempted to capture from a Radio Shack Mini DV Metal Evaporated mini DV digital videocassette. For whatever reason it will not capture. I have never used one of these tapes before. Could it be the tape? After I click on "Capture," the screen shows NO PICTURE of sound, however, it plays on the camera. It can't be the camera settings because all the other tapes work. . . Any advice?
When I get a file from the remote site to the local site, it looks like a template only in the document window - the content does not appear - I cannot edit it at all. When I view the same file in the local root folder on my computer, it appears as it should. Help!
