Does anyone know if RoboHelp 9 can be integrated with Git version control? My company is thinking about switching from TFS to this open source product, but I need to make sure that it is compatible with RoboHelp. I can't find a definitive answer on the web, so I wondered if anyone on the forum has had any experience of it?ThanksJonathan
Hello,I am writing a massive project with a lot of content reused across various books. (See William's example below regarding the "Getting Started" topic that appears in four different books.) I am required to output my project to both HTML5 and to PDF. (BTW, I have just read some of Peter Grainge's piece on print output, in which he recommends outputting first to MS Word, then cleaning up the page breaks, and then saving the Word doc as a PDF. I will try that.)What I originally did was to duplicate the TOC entries. Using the graphic below as an example, I would write the "Getting Started" content for the Accounts section, then I would copy that TOC entry into the remaining three sections. The problem with that is when I output to PDF, the actual content itself will appear only in the Accounts section. In the other sections, the TOC entry "Getting Started" will appear, but there will be no textual content under it.My question is: If I use the nesting/merging TOCs method, will I have th
I'm using RoboHelp 2017. (I'm generating Responsive HTML5 output, but the issue is the same in WebHelp output.)We put screenshot images in DropDown Text so the user can expand to see the example screenshot if they wish, otherwise it's collapsed and not taking up real estate. For example we have a sentence like this-- "The Users screen lists users and their logged in status, and allows authorized users to create, modify, and delete user accounts." --where "Users screen" has the DropDown Text with a screenshot image inserted.Sometimes we need to exclude the screenshot from the output, so we created a condition named screenshot and applied it to the screenshot image. In the output we created a conditional build expression to exclude the screenshot. The basic aspect of this works, the screenshot image is absent when the expression is used. The problem is that the underscore and twisty remain on the text, so to the user it looks like something is there, but clicking the hyperlink just turns
Hi all,We have several projects using the Charcoal-grey layout. The SSL Search options are set with "Show Context in Search Results" option unchecked. (In fact all SSL Search options are unchecked). When we execute a search on the project in desktop layout, the search pane will only display a list of 14 results with no scrollbar, followed by "End of search results". But the Search pane is reporting "52 results found" at the top.If we enable the SSL "Show Context...." option and then re-publish, the 14 items now cause the Search pane to have a scrollbar (because they are 3 lines each), and scrolling continues to load all 52 results. What is the best solution this problem?Corollary: What does the option "Number of results on a page" mean? It is not in the RH Help. Thanks,Jeanne Daniele
After generating WebHelp_Pro output for Robo help project, we don't have access to production Robo Server URL to publish the output using RoboHelp Office product option of Publish. So in order to publish web help pro output to robo server , Is copying the content of that folder to directly the server context location work ?For Eg : if context name is robotest then we tried to copy in to the folder robotest/server/general/projects/projectnameThen when we tried to access with url :http://roboserverurl:8080/contextname/server?project=projectnameit is not working. But if i publish the project using robo help office product publish option , it is working fine. Please help how to deploy web pro robo help project in to robo server with out using publish option of the tool.
Good Morning,I use RoboHelp to create WebHelp as my output. I was asked if there is a way to have the WebHelp toggle between day mode (white background with black text) and night mode (dark background with white lettering) by simply clicking a toggle button. I don't believe there is any such way to do this but thought I'd ask anyway. Best Regards,Ken
Hi,I'm an occasional user of Framemaker 10 and RoboHelp 9, which I use to generate AirHelp. In the Framemaker source documents I have a large number of 'Note:' and 'Caution:' paragraphs that I want to stand out from the rest of the text. I investigated doing this using the Framemaker reference pages to insert a suitable graphic in front of each Note or Caution paragraph; this works fine in Framemaker, but is then no good in RoboHelp (as importing from reference pages is not supported).I don't want to get involved in writing scripts as I feel this would be beyond my level of experience (which is very basic!) so I thought the best way to proceed would be to put all the relevant paragraphs into single row tables instead - the graphic would be in a fixed width column and the text in a second column that autofits to the width of the AirHelp window. The problem that I'm struggling to resolve is: once the FrameMaker files are imported into RoboHelp, the tables are alway
Dear all,I'm using RH2015 (12.0.4.460).In my WebHelp outputs, the search feature works as if "Enable Substring Search" was selected, even when it's not.Using "" or the AND Search option does not change this behavior. So for instance, I cannot get a list of the topics that mention "finite capacity", because no matter what, the search results include also topics that mention "infinite capacity". Results are the same with IE11, Chrome, and FF (I'm having issues with WebHelp in Edge, but they're not limited to the search feature, so...).Search works fine with Responsive HTML5, but for some legacy projects, the output has to be WebHelp. Also, for corporate policy reasons, using an external search engine is not a possibility.I could not find anything recent on the forums, so I guess this is not an issue everyone using RH2015 is having. What am I missing?Would greatly appreciate any help or advice from the community...PS: I checked also with a new project created from scratch. Same problem.
My RH 2015 started running slowly earlier this week. While generating a webhelp project that takes 45 minutes on a slow day (e.g., after closing program, deleting .cpd file, making updates, and generating webhelp) and less than 20 minutes if the project is already open and has been previously generated, RH started randomly displaying "(Not Responding)" on the "Generating WebHelp..." title bar and the system displayed multiple messages with the title "Error" and the message "The operation has timed out". I could not tell for certain if these messages were tied to RH; there was no other identifying information. Everything appeared to still be running--over 2 hours when I finally tried to abort the process. I clicked Cancel and the red X on the title bar with no effect; the animation sequence on the "Generating WebHelp..." window was still going. I haven't seen that before when RH crashes. I used Task Manager to close the program, deleted the .cpd file,
What I have:RoboHelp 2015 (12.0.4.460)Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) - Version 11.0.61219.0 Q11 RELTeam Foundation Server MSSCCI ProviderTwo people draw from the same project files in version control. The problem:Checking in and out works as expected for ALL files EXCEPT after I generate one of the Printed Documentation Outputs (Word or PDF). As soon as I begin generating the output, I get this dialog:The document generates successfully. However, if I attempt to edit ANYTHING in the project (running another output, editing a topic, etc) after generating I get the following error:It forces me to close out of RoboHelp, and then re-enter. This is a major pain as it takes 5-10 mins to query version control and open the project back up. I should be able to generate an output and continue working without having to restart.Things I've tried:Going to Visual Studio and making sure nothing had a lock on it. No errors are reported in Visual Studio.Going to Visual Studio and manual
I have the Tech Comm Suite 3 and am linking FrameMaker documents in RoboHelp to publish Web Help. After a lot of work setting up the CSS/ISF files, I have everything converting perfectly from Frame to RoboHelp EXCEPT tables. I want tables in Help to be sized at 95% width (to auto-adjust to screen size). But there doesn't seem to be any way to set this preference. So right now, I have to set the width manually in the RoboHelp Table Properties for each table. Then, for some reason, I have to manually click and drag all of the table's horizontal lines up in order for the cell text to reflow into the new expanded width. I can't find any solutions to this problem in RoboHelp's Help or forum. Perhaps someone else has run into this issue and found a creative solution? Thanks!Mike
RH 9, Windows 7I'm trying to figure out why an application is sending this message or what is the cause for this. The application uses a couple of (merged) CHMs but I have no idea why this happens. Eitherthe CHM is invoked into a Window that doesn't exist or the invoked CHM causes anither CHM to be referred, that doesn't have this window. No idea.Is there a way to debug what's happening behind the scene? There are these Windows defined in the single and merged layouts, so these names are well known "candidates", but I need a way to debug this. The message also is issued from the application when I move all CHMs out of the way. So it seems, some mechanism within the application tries to invoke something.I don't have access to the source at the moment. Will try to ask a colleague on Monday.--Christoph
We have a merged HTML Help project and it would be desirable to generate PDF document such that the central (master) is on top (with the table of contents with all page number correct and merge the rest of the PDF into that one document. Is that possible? At the moment I can only help myself to generate distinct documents with all their own page numbers and the Master document is empty so to say, no tabe of content,--Christoph
When applying conditional build tags to Table of Contents topics, what is the purpose of the "Topics" checkboxes in the Conditional Build Tags dialog box?Specifically, I would like to know:What functionality does selecting/deselecting the "Topics" checkbox allow/disallow?If the "TOC" checkbox is selected, should the "Topics" checkbox also be selected? Is there any scenario in which the "Topics" checkbox would be selected, but the "TOC" checkbox would not?I am using RoboHelp 2017.
Hi - really hoping someone can help me.We are attempting to integrate our Robohelp 2015 files with SharePoint 2010 for the first time - for shared resources, version control and publishing. We did a POC and it worked just fine. However the POC was done on a sharepoint site with an http: address - our site has an https: address so it's secured. I have complete rights to the SP site and we use SSL. I had no issue linking to shared resources on the SP site. When trying to connect to SP for version control and or publishing I receive the 403 forbidden error. Our systems/network people assure me that I should be able to connect. I realize we're a little late to the party, however, after combing thru all the forum questions and answers, the great video tutorial from a few years ago, going to some of the SME's websites I'm at a loss going forward and checking my robohelp and sharepoint settings numerous times, I'm really at my wits end. I did find one response saying "they had to do something
I am using RoboHelp 2017. I want to customize URL after generating an output so that we can call help topics using a context-sensitive tool. For example, I will show some images so you can understand me better (because English is not my mother language):I've changed the file name, so that URL ending corresponds to the code variable. My URL has changed. But I also would like to change its path, not showing the sequence of folders as in the previous image. For example: instead of URL "Menus/Cadastros/Filiais/TFormCadFiliais.htm" I want to simplify as "TFormCadFiliais.htm". So that will be easier to call this topic.I am not a programmer, I am a technical writer. We were used to the Map IDs routine (maybe someone will think about it), but then programmers decided to extinguish all IDS, because they had to deal with many numbers and they preferred to create context-sensitive help with words, inserting variables to the URL. For example "TFormCadFiliais" will call the topic about subsidiary comp
Hi, I am using robohelp version 9 and currently we are using your tool to create .chm file for online help for my application. My application is enterprise application and implemented with .net (visual studio 2015)Currently we are creating setup of application like .exe (i.e. desktop application ) and .chm file is part of setup. it will get install on local machine when setup will get installed. It means that .chm files are part of setup so setup become very heavy and slow (setup building). So now we want to separate .chm file from setup. ( setup - .chm file)Now we are thinking that we will access .chm files through network. (client - server)we .chm files will on server side and client can access that .chm files from server whenever they require.is it possible ?if yes then please let us know how ?/Nikhil
Hi,I am using robohelp project version 9 and integrated with TFS for versioning control. But in my organization, we are maintaining version like branch wise for customer.e.g. I have branch 1.1 and 1.2 and 1.3 1.1 is nothing but whole project but contains 10 functions available for customer (10 functions source code is available ) 1.2 is also whole project but contains 2 functions available for customer (only 2 functions source code is available )If in future new function need to add or customer which is using 1.1 branch application they want new additional functions then we will create new branch like 1.1.1In this case we need to move all source code from branch 1.1 to 1.1.1 branch (this is called up merging)Also some times we need to do Down merging also ( means merging from upper branch to lower branch 1.1.1 to 1.1.)so here 1 customer is using 1.1 version application and another customer is using 1.1.1 version ap
Hi, I have four TOCs: A, B, C, and D.For example, A contains 10 topics, B contain 7 topics, C contains 3 topics, and D contains 3 topics. Some topics are shared between TOCs.Now, when I am generating a chm for TOC A, the TOC appears fine. From the Search tab in the chm, if I do a search with some common words like and, the, and so forth, the search result displays also topics that are part of the other TOCs (may be B, C, or D). Is there a way to stop these topics of other TOCs to appear in the serach result?I need this because all the TOCs are for different customers and some topics should be hidden from each other. Please let me know if it requires more clarification. Thanks in advance,Jignesh
Hi,I have an unexpected issue with generating WebHelp output from the RoboHelp project. The needed stylesheet doesn't apply to the topics in output, although this stylesheet is applied to all topics in the project. This is an old project that has previously been generated multiple times with no issues. But we have recently upgraded to RoboHelp 2015, and that's when the issue arised. Can the upgrade be related to the output issue? If yes, could you advise how to fix this? Or any other possible fixes will be appreciated, as we are approaching the project deadline, and this is critical.Thank you,Oksana
Is there a way to find out the link paths in an hlp file?We are converting hlp files using RH's import feature. However, it looks like RH removes links it cannot resolve when you import, and I need to recreate these links. Is there a way to look at the link properties in the hlp files to determine where the old link points?Thank you!Cindy
I am trying to publish my Robohelp project via command line and all of the files appear to be copied to the deployment location correctly. However, when opening the index.htm page, I do not see any of the other pages in the project in the "index" section. It looks like the pages are not linked appropriately via command line. When I publish from within the Adobe Robohelp application, everything shows in the "index" section correctly. Here are the variations of the cmd statements I have tried running:rhcl "MyRoboHelpProject.xpl" -p servername rhcl "MyRoboHelpProject.xpl" -l "WebHelp" -p servername rhcl "MyRoboHelpProject.xpl" -l "WebHelp" -p servername -o PathOnServer
HiI have a FM-based RH project I upgraded from RH11 to RH2015.I want to publish this project as an android app. But I don't see the Mobile App option in the Output menu. Please advice.SreekanthP.S.: I remember asking this question earlier on these forums. But I am not finding it. Apologies for the duplicate post.
Hi, there(especially Captiv8r_)(After i found out you are the only one who answers in this Robo forum lol)I'd like to make hyperlinks to the specific paragraph of the specific topic, not to just entire topic.I see there is a "Bookmark" function in the manual, but it looks like the bookmarks is only linked within the topic, not between topics. Is there anyway i could make bookmarks link to between topics, ormake hyperlinks to the specific paragraph of the specific topic?Thank you in advance.!
Hi! I cannot import .docx files into RoboHelp 2015. When I go to locate the file on my drive via Import --> Word Document in RoboHelp, these documents do not show up as a recognized file type. Only .doc files show up. In the example below, I had converted a .docx file into a .doc file. Both versions (the .docx and the .doc files) are located in this folder, but the .docx file is not visible.Does this mean I will need to convert every single .docx file into a .doc file before I can import it into RoboHelp?I am using Word 2010.
