I have a license for Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0, and I would like to install it on my new laptop. Will it work with Windows 10?

You can probably coerce the installer to run on Windows 10, possibly using the Windows 7 compatibility mode (right click on the installer and specify Windows 7 compatibility).

That having been said, realize that:

(1)     Acrobat 9 is no longer supported in any way by Adobe and was never officially supported on Windows 10.

(2)     The PDFMaker functionality (for Office, etc.) will not work with any recent versions of Microsoft Office.

(3)     Many updates and fixes, especially in the area of security

(3)     Many updates and fixes, especially in the area of security, have been added in the four major Acrobat releases since Acrobat 9.

Good luck.

Why would it work for years on Windows 10 and suddenly stop being recognized just today?

Because it's not compatible with it, so any update to the OS can cause it to stop working, or have issues.

Is there any comparable program that is not so horribly expensive? I use it mainly to save scanned text

Adobe Acrobat Standard DC is the cheapest option from Adobe, or you can get Adobe Acrobat Standard 2020, if you prefer a perpetual license over a subscription. These versions are only available for Windows, though.

.I am a more than partially retiring attorney. Years ago I purchased several Fujitsu 500 series scanners for my office. They came bundled with Adobe. I went through the upgrades through Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. My regular office closed in 2016 and I began to work from home. I carried my system home and continued to use the Pro 9.

Recently, I had to replace my aged HP CPU and my Tech did not have a version of pro 9 available. So he loaded the recent version of Reader.

Subsequently, I discovered two of my Adobe Acrobat 9 pro discs. I have tried to down load one of those. It works but Adobe is messaging me that I only have a 30 day trial available. At one point, I must have had five licenses. I thought I owned them. But it seems Adobe is forcing me to upgrade to something with which I am less comforable.

What can I do?  The older software loads and works, but I keep getting the message to upgrade, with a followup message that Pro 9 is no longer upgradable. Then reverts to an option to continue my "free trial" HELP!!!!

Adobe has discontinued the activation servers for the older versions of Acrobat. It used to be possible to activate Acrobat 9, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. There's really nothing any of us can do about it, though.

Also, it no longer offers the installers for it, but the updates are still available on their FTP site.

Similar situation. I do not recall agreeing to my Acrobat 9.0 Pro installation license saying that Adobe can just steal my program, which essentially that's what they're doing. I paid a lot of money for this software and have no intention bowing to a subscription to use a newer version.
