Can’t add digital signature in Acrobat — signature option greyed out

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with Adobe Acrobat while trying to digitally sign a PDF. The “Fill & Sign” tool opens fine, but the option to add my digital signature is greyed out. This happens even on documents that are not password-protected or restricted.

I already tried checking the document properties, enabling permissions, and even creating a new digital ID, but the problem remains. I need to send signed PDFs to clients, and not being able to add a signature is becoming a big problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it related to document security settings, or something to do with Acrobat’s configuration? Any suggestions for reliable fixes would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Please excuse me asking all these seeming simple questions, but the information will help a lot as we try to help you.

What type of computer are you using and what version of operating system does it use?

What version (and what type) of acrobat are you using? Premium? Pro? Standard? Reader?

Have you created a digital signature to use for signing PDF documents?

Were you able to sign documents before, but can't now? Or have you never been able to sign PDFs from your system?

Please let us know the answers to these questions, as well as any other information you feel is relevant, and we'll do our best to help.

Hi Randy and Steven,

I experience exactly the same problem. I have an iMac (2017), Acrobat Standard, a digital signature and it all worked fine until two weeks ago. I have the same problem (a grey block) with some pictures or company names on pdf files.
