I would like to create photo reports from the job site by simply editing an Adobe Reader form on my phone and capturing the images using my phone's camera. Is this possible with Acrobat DC? I haven't been able to make it function. Please help 🙂

Hi AnandSri,

Thank you for your response to my inquiry. I have completed the exact steps you have listed many times and the application(s) have not yielded the desired result. I read through the article you forwarded as well as similar articles within the Adobe help library and they have not helped me yet either. Further research into online forums talk about how this is a shortcoming within the application suite and needing to trick the program by using a button field and mapping your images to them. Here's what I've done...

  • I'm able to add the image form field with no problems.
  • I've saved the file in the correct format so as to be fillable within Adobe Reader.
  • When I open the form on a mobile device I can see the image field but tapping it does not open any options for inserting/capturing an image.
  • When I add other fillable elements they are fillable and function as expected.

Is there some specific setting or property that needs to be applied to the image form field?  Maybe applying an 'Action' to the control?

Tnx

@maxh7617989

Thanks for sharing the detailed information. Unfortunately, it is a feature limitation on the Acrobat Reader mobile app.

I will share this with the development team for inclusion in future releases. You can also file a feature request using this Wish form: https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

Thanks for your time and cooperation.

I am also trying to allow users to insert an image into a fillable PDF Form that I created and need them to upload via an iPad.   It works great on a laptop but not on an iPad.  Has there been any solution this?  Even if it doesn't work in Adobe Acrobat Reader, does it work in some other way?

Hi @maxh7617989

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out.

It is possible to build a fillable form with image fields that can be filled in on a mobile device using Adobe Acrobat DC.

This article can guide you through the steps: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/creating-distributing-pdf-forms.html.

Here are the steps to create a fillable form with image fields that can be filled in on a mobile device:

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat DC and create a new PDF Form.
  2. Add form fields to the PDF document, including the image fields where users can insert images.
  3. To add an image field, select the "Add Image Field" option from the "Add Fields" menu in the right pane, and then drag the field to the desired location in the document.
  4. Set the properties of the image field, including the size, shape, and any default text or formatting.
  5. Save the PDF document and make sure it's accessible on your mobile device by Saving it as a Reader Extended PDF using the Save As other option.
  6. Open the PDF document using your mobile device's Adobe Acrobat Reader app.
  7. Fill out the form fields as needed, including inserting images into the image fields by tapping the "Insert Image" button or using your device's camera to capture a new image.

Once you have finished filling out the form and adding images, you can save the document and submit it as needed.

Following these steps, you can create a fillable form with image fields that can be filled in on a mobile device using Adobe Acrobat DC.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
