Stop PDFs from downloading to Acrobat when I want to download it on finder

I have a macBook Pro and I recently downloaded the Acrobat app. Now, when I download PDFs, They automatically open in Acrobat but I need them to open in my finder app (on my actual laptop.) I can't seem to figure out how to change the prefences. This is driving me crazy. Do I need to delete the app in order to stop my pdfs from opening in acrobat? I can not send what I need through Adobe for work.

@Popdigitalmarketing

When you open a PDF in Acrobat, it will be in the Finder, but it may or may not be in the folder where you want it. Try this:

  • Cmd+Click the title bar to reveal the path
  • Click the folder where the PDF is located to reveal it in Finder
  • Move the file to the correct location in Finder
  • Close the PDF without saving. If you need to open it again, do so from the new location.

Hi, @jane-e I'm not sure that that's what this person wants. I think he wan't Apple's Preview to be the primary app for opening PDFs. I might be wrong, but that's how I read his request.

IF I'M CORRECT @Popdigitalmarketing, in my guess, here's how: Click one time on any PDF on your computer. Then press Command-i.

Toward the bottom of this window that opened up on the left side of the screen you'll see text saying "Open with – Adobe Acrobat" To the right of Adobe Acrobat, you'll see a dropdown arrow. If you press on that it should show you all of the possible applications that can open a PDF. If you see "Preview," select that. If you do not see Preview, scroll to the bottom, and select "Other." That will let you search your hard drive for the desired application.

Then, once you've done that, just below that you'll see a button called "Change All." This is to make this choice perminent for all PDFs.

If you have a PDF that you do wish to open in Acrobat, simply drag the file over the Acrobat icon in your Dock and you'll be good to go.

If this is not what you want, please ignore everything I've said.

Hi Gary, I was able to do what you recommended and files will open with Preview. However, the files still download as an acrobat pdf file - the red Acrobat pdf. icon to the left of the file.  I would prefer to have them download the way they used to download.  Literally all my pdf files on my computer now have the red acrobat icon to the left.  I dont like it!  Am I missing something? Do you have instructions as to how to fix this and revert all my files back to the way they were?
