One track consistently refuses to play in Multitrack (Greys out and mutes when 'Play' is started)

Hi, Newbie here.  I am using Audition Build 24 on a Mac running OS Monterey 12.6.9

 

I am editing tracks for a podcast and one track consistently deselects itself and turns the Mute button on the moment I try to play it.  (First image: it is selected and the Mute button is deselected)

 

As soon as I hit the spacebar or click the 'Play' button (second image) the track greys out and the Mute button is illuminated.

 

I seem to have managed a work-around. I created a new mono track and bounced the selection to it.  But I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem and is it something quite simple that I am doing (an incorrect button selected, perhaps) or if it is a glitch that appeared during saving the file, or what?

    Try setting the automation for the track to 'none' and see if it still does it...

     

    Incidentally, having the mute and solo buttons selected for a track is somewhat counter-productive, especially if the solo mode is set to exclusive. The normal way to listen to single tracks is simply to use the solo button in exclusive mode, and then you don't need any of the mute buttons pressed - the exclusive selection will mute all the other tracks anyway. But muting is something that the automation system will track, so that's the obvious thing to check.

    Thanks very much, Steve.  I had the Automation for that track in "Latch".  And thank you for the explanation of the Mute and Solo buttons.  (I'm really on the steep part of the learning curve!)
