Two windows open in Bridge Oct. 2022 update?

Hi!! I use Bridge daily and always have had 2 - 4 Bridge windows open so that I could easily move files from folder to folder after viewing them. However with the new Bridge update there no longer exists the "File, New Window" option.  After several hours, ok a few days...., of toying around and looking through discussion boards I couldn't find any information. Does anyone know how to have more than one Bridge window open with the new update? Thanks in advance.

I believe the secret is in the Undock command. It alows you to resize and move your content pane to where you want it. With two content panes open, you have the functionality that you had before. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I'm almost near to tears seeing it finally back in a new version 😝 I thought that I would have to use Bridge 2022 forever. Also, the custom keyboard shortcuts feature is huge! This is gonna be a gamechanger

When you say it ‘brings back support’ do you mean it can open multiple windows or not?

Thanks,

Yes, two windows, three windows, each with one or more Content Tabs, as many as you want, AND THAT YOUR RAM CAN SUPPORT. I've got a lot of ram in my Mac Studio with 64 GB of ram, and I've not reached a limit yet.

Keep in mind ONLY the first window you open will be able to support removable Panels. All subsequent windows will not have that capability*. All subsequent windows will be called "Secondary" in the upper left corner.

* The reason for this is, can you imagine the chaos of multiple floating Content Tabs and not being sure which Window they belong to?

Enjoy and have fun.

Absolutely ridiculous to change such a key feature, I multiple windows regularly with their own 'filmstrip' and preview/content panel. It was very useful when comparing folders and files, it's now broken. Adobe, come on! This is a key fearure of Bridge, fix this thing quickly and bring back File -> New Window.

Hi Stalee27517455,

Please report this on the Bridge Help menu: Open Bridge then go... Help>Submit Bug feature request

I've submitted this issue afresh twice, just to ram it home, and heard back recently as follows below from an Adobe employee, so fingers crossed they will re-introduce soon. The more peeps that make a fuss the more likely they are to speed up.

We are happy to announce the release of Adobe Bridge Beta (13.0.2.630)

As part of our effort to fix issues reported with Bridge 13.0, this Beta build resolves some of the top ones. Please let us know if any of the mentioned fixes are not holding well for you.

Also, we are hearing your requests about reintroducing Multiple Bridge windows. This Beta release does not include this requested feature, but the Bridge team is working on it, analyzing the use cases, and constructing an appropriate action plan. Please stay tuned.

This Beta release also includes several bug fixes done in the 13.0.1 public release. For details, see Fixed issues<>.

Adobe is very much aware that they removed multiple windows and that numerous customers want that feature restored. This is not an obscure bug or feature request. Just saying.

I've never not adapted to a new update version and downgrade before but this is impossible with data handling & file sorting. New content tab is an okay feature and might be okay if it was supported with it's own menu folder index. The reason a lot of creatives duplicate the window is for the menu/ index / the folders and this update deletes that function completely. I used to have 2 menus stacked & migrate my product research data. This is so sad and fustrating! 😞

I need multiple filter panels and cannot use the new version, even if I ignore the numerous bugs. I'm still on Bridge 2022.

Without multiple windows Bridge is much reduced.
Until this is fixed I will unfortunately be using another tool.

You can still use the older version of Bridge: I'm running version 12.0.3, the version before the October 2022 release when Adobe broke multi-window functionality.

In general, when Adobe releases a clunker version, you can roll back (or not upgrade) to the preceding working version until Adobe fixes it.

While Adobe's release notes always announce what they've added, they seldom reveal what they remove (no matter how crucial it is). I usually ignore the release note marketing puffery and see for myself what they've done.  And never install an Adobe upgrade when you're working under a critical deadline, or you may find your deadline goes up in smoke while you sort out how to restore some crucial function.  (This especially applies to Acrobat, where they love to hack off or break key features at random.)

Also, I never click the button "remove an older version" when upgrading. I have the newer version and the older version on my dock.

M Mr. and/or Mrs. Adobe, please switch back to the wonderful option (wasn't broken, why "fix" it?) to have multiple windows so we can drag things from one place to another. Like Melani, "I need to see image grids in two, three, or four separate panes at the same time."

Oh! I just found a way! "I open a new content tab," and then I dragged onto my Bridge icon in the dock another folder that went into that content tab. I clicked really hard on that tab and dragged it to my desktop, and somehow, after a few failed tries, I could see two windows at the same time and drag the content from one to the other, just like in the old days. It still feels a bit weird.

Hello, Gooie dag!

I think that Bridge engineers had to upgrade the interface framework to a modern one, including to offer Apple Silicon support, and that they used the one from video apps, that does not offer multiple windows by default.

I think that they heard loud and clear the need for multiple windows, and that the current solution of multiple content tabs is not sufficient for everyone!

So the UnDock option is a step in the right direction, but you only get the Content panel. What you are missing is the folder stack and the navigation across the top to know which folder you are in. I still need the entire window with all the panels, not just the Content panel. Not good enough.

I actually uninstalled the new version and reverted back to 2021 for the multiple windows. Does the undocking create different windows, or just content panes within the same window?
