I'm trying to figure out a way to diagnose why Bridge CC is so slow. I regularly use programs like Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere and don't notice any kind of inapropriate lag or delays at all. However, when working in Bridge it just feels slow. Opening menus occasionally just hangs for seconds on end before dropping down. Thumnails from a gallery I've previously viewed can take upwards of 10 seconds to appear after opening the software. But the most noticeable and repeatable issue comes when trying to select more then one image files. CTR-Clicking a second (or however many additional files) can take anywhere from 5-8 seconds to happen. This, more then anything else, is making bridge unusable.
What should I do?
Hi Jas69, In my case, I followed HappyGuy's advice, but maybe a bit differenly. My current laptop was migrated over from an older machine using the Windows migration utility. I went into each of the folders you mention, right click and then select properties. That will give a window that states 'Libraries', the main window will state 'Library locations:'. In each of my folders, there were locations that pointed towards my new/current laptop, and two that pointed to my old laptop. The correc
...Hello... so I have also been experiencing some pretty substantial slowness in Bridge that "seemed" to get worse as the newer versions released, but has existed for what seems to be the last 3-4 versions. I'm on the current 2022 version on two systems, a xps 15 laptop with windows 11 and custom built PC with windows 10 pro. Both were seeing this horrible slowness in Bridge and it was to the point that I was researching other options. But I couldn't find anything that could do what Bridge can do w

I cannot thank you enough for sharing the "right" solution. It have been wasting my time for quite some time looking for an answer and unsuccessfully changing Bridge preferences here and there.
Thank you, thank you thank you.

With Bridge CC 6.2 the performance of the GUI is really bad. It does not response for several seconds every action I do... No change between hardware or software rendering at all (yep, I restarted bridge after changes this.)

This solution worked for me, I approached it slightly differently. My user folders "Documents" and "Downloads" had been moved by IT to a network drive. I moved them back to C: and performance has improved.

Hi, we had the same issues in our company. the bad performance is caused by the adobe stock plugin witch had problems with our proxy server. we changed our proxy server to a so called transparent proxy. that resolved the probem for us. but adobe bridge has some serious problems with non transparend proxys with user authentication. at least thats what we figured out. hope this helps.

omg, i love you. i'm pretty sure the only reason i subscribed to CC was because of this problem and an employee who was quick to complain rather than investigate. This was affecting CS6. I recently started to get the feeling that possibly CC 2022 was getting sluggish also so i started searching and found this amazing simple solution. next time some young employee goes off about how you need to upgrade yada yada because they're too lazy to actually to troubleshoot an issue, do your due diligence and find the solution. some of these millenial employees just have no aptitude for troubleshooting and immediately look to complain. when you don't actually fix a problem, and just put on a band-aid, it always comes back to bite you eventually.

I just started suffering this problem of Bridge CC being unresponsive a couple of days ago. A quick way to check for this symptom is to click on a file in the Content pane and then, holding down the Ctrl or Shift key, click on an adjacent file. The second file should be added to the selection immediately. If it takes 10 seconds or more, that's the unresponsiveness problem I'm talking about.
I followed the repair procedure posted by HappyGuy, but without any luck. Pursuing his same thinking, though, I was able to quickly fix the problem. I went to the Favorites panel in Bridge and removed every favorite that involved network access. I then clicked on each of the remaining favorites to make sure they were all working. I found one that pointed to a file that had moved, so I removed it. After these changes, Bridge started working at its normal pace again.
(I had recently added a couple of favorites for accessing folders over the LAN and I think I had also moved one file, breaking the corresponding favorite.)
I think from what has been said previously in this topic, before doing something simple like extending a selection or bringing up a context menu in response to a right click, Bridge is stopping to check a whole lot of things that don't need to be checked. You can call this a bug or you can call it poor software design, but apparently it has caused a lot of users a lot of grief. Causing users a lot of grief is bad for the reputation of your software product, so I think Adobe should address this problem by changing the software.

Oh my goodness smilsmith... I could kiss you!!!
I have tried EVERYTHING with no success... but YOU had the answer! Thank you sooo much!
I had links on my 'favorite' panel that were no longer accessible by my laptop - removed them and problem solved!

I have exactly the same issue on my brand new Surface Pro 3 (i7 512GB version). I have CS6. I just downloaded Bridge CC but it gets stuck too. My older machines Lenovo Yoga 2 has no such problem. Both have the latest Windows 8.1 updates and Adobe updates.

I ran into the same issues. I've fixed it by opening the Windows explorer, navigate to Bridge.exe and right-click: Then select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
Another option is to create a short-cut for bridge.exe (e.g. on your desktop), open the properties and open the compatibility tab.
Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for": and select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)" from the pull-down list.
On my machine Bridge instantly changed from a snail like program into a snappy smooth running program.
HTH.

"So I went in to the libraries and removed all the links that went to my laptop and skydrive and Bridge worked perfectly as would be expected on a new PC. So check your libraries."
HUGE WINNER!! DID IT FOR ME, THANKS!
Bridge, out of nowhere, started taking 8-12 seconds to do ANYTHING, i.e., click on a menu and wait for it to drop down, or CTRL-Click a 2nd image to select 2, which easily took 12 seconds for the 2nd image to get the selction border. .Wasn't a PC issue, not with a 6-core i7, 32GB ram and THREE SSDs, one solely dedicated to Adobe Scratch. had to be a Microsoft/Adobe issue, and there it is. Huge huge thanks!

Hi Guys,
I need help. I have had the same issues with Bridge CC n photoshop CC. I am a professional photographer running various machines in my studio. I upgraded to CC a month back and have been struggling with this issue. I was using an alienware and have reset, reformatted downgraded from windows 8 to windows 7 and now finally moved to another fresh Dell machine. the alienware is an icore 7, 16gb ram and the new dell is i core 5 8 gb ram. i am also using a surface pro 3, i core7, 8 gb ram.
After struggling between 3 machines i read your posts and have tried everything as above but to no use. Can anyone suggest any other help. I have wasted the last 15 days and my complete workflow and planning has been ruined.
I am so frustrated that i have rest my alienware and am going to reinstall CS6

For me it's unfortunately doesn't solve the problem.
Tried the library and compatibility still slow performance by Bridge CC(6.1.0.116 x64).
My spec:
SSD 500 GB Samsung Evo
i7 4930k cpu
Asus Sabertooth x79
32 GB DDR3
Windows 8.1 64bit
---------------------------------
I've found that the problem is with wacom intuos. Tried different drivers and still nothing. Can't use Bridge CC with wacom intuos(with mouse there are no freezes).

Worked here too. Bridge was taking ages to build thumbnail caches.
I removed each "C:\USERS\Public" Library locations listing from 'My Documents', 'My Pictures', 'My Videos' and 'My Music'.
Big networked office here, no need for 'Public' folder shares anywhere.
Flies along now

ok, my problem also is solved.
If someone has such a issues as me (freezing because of wacom tablet).
You need to go to Control Panel/hardware and sound/ pen and touch/ change tablet pen settings and enable press and hold function.
Now Bridge works like a charm.

If you have a Wacom tablet and use a PC this helped me tremendously:
Go to the Wacom Tablet Properties in your control panel select the pen tool and under application make sure "all other" is selected. Then go to the mapping tab immediately beneath that area and in the bottom left hand corner, uncheck the box next to "Use Windows Ink"
This immediately stopped any lag that I had with Bridge entirely. You can also do this for the mouse tool as well. However, leave this option checked for use with Photoshop, as tablet pressure sensitivity will not function unless you do.
Hope it helps!

Thx Beldave for answer. I did this solution while ago.
Reinstallation with deleting all preferences helped. I'm curious is there any option to save catch files in other destination then system hard drive? I had this option before update, now I can't find it. I got only Desktop or user catalog.

I have the same problem. When turned-off my McAfee Virus protection Bridge was much faster. Not a long-term option. I also reduced the number of Start-up scripts to just Photoshop CC 2014. That also increased the speed.

I just solved this on my Windows 8.1 Machine with the following steps:
1) Close Bridge if open
2) Go To Windows Temporary Folder [WIN KEY + R], and type "%TEMP%"
3) Go up two folder levels until you see the Roaming folder [ ALT + Up Arrow ]
4) You will see the folders : Local, LocalLow, Roaming
5) Open Roaming folder
6) Open Adobe folder
7) You will see Bridge folders : Bridge, Bridge CC
8) Delete both Bridge folders
9) Launch Bridge. Slowness should go away!

Guys, I don't want to be a wet blanket but please stop referring to this as a "fix" - it's not a fix. It's a workaround. Bridge is unnecessarily wasting system resources.
For me, I have:
And Bridge CC is still dog slow - slower than it is on my old PCore2 Quad Q660 G0 running at 2.4Ghz - which is a significantly slower machine than my SP3. Granted, my desktop has a GTX275 in it (which is about 2x the spec of the built in Intel HD 5000 in my i7).
Bridge is usable - but painful. And RAW editing is a nightmare.
My Surface Pro 3
i7-4650U (dual core @ 1.7GHz; 3.3GHz Turbo)
Intel HD 5000 Graphics
8G RAM
256G SSD
In looking at the CPU specs, it's not temp throttling through any of this.
Just for a giggle, I spooled Bridge up and browsed to an empty folder so no images were present. Then I ran processmon and captured 10s of data.
In that 10s, Bridge generated 35K events (accessing filesystem, registry, etc). And it does the following in 2s intervals
All of the above takes 0.5s
Then, 1.5s later, it does it all again...
And that's with Bridge just sitting there doing absolutely nothing in a folder with absolutely no photos in it. When I start to "do" things in bridge (like browse photos in Review mode) it's doing all of this stuff needlessly (and it's slowing me down).
Now, I'll grant you that querying the registry only takes 1/30,000 of a second, or so. But still, that's a lot of time spent querying for things that have no bearing on anything other than when you are first copying files into a folder.
I would love to be able to control this behavior. Like having a parameter in settings that I can set to reduce the frequency of these polls - instead of hard coding it to 2s? I'd be perfectly happy with being able to completely disable it (instead of trading off against losing my "libraries" - I don't think a single app should change how I use my operating system).
I guess it could just be my SP3, or something wrong with windows 8.1 - but there are no application/system events to lead me to believe that anything is wrong with it.
