How do I get my lesson to stop advancing automatically? I want the user to click advance.

All the slides in my lesson advances after a few seconds; I want the user to have to advance. Seems weird to me that that's the default. In training, why would you want the slides to advance on their own when everyone reads at their own pace. Well, anyway, can someone tell me how I get that to stop? I didn't put in my own buttons, just using the ones that Captivate puts on itself. I don't even know how to see those; I can only see them when I play back the less on (I just started using this yesterday). Thank you for your help!

    If it is a training simulation, there will be automatically a pause on each slide, user will have to do something.

    I suspect you are a newbie to Captivate? Which version? The easiest way to have a pause at the end of each slide is this work flow:

    • Go to the main master slide.
    • Insert a shape, and activate the option 'Use as Button'; if you want this button to be visible, you can double-click and add a text to it (Next?), you can change the fill (even insert an image) and the stroke. This can be done for the three states: normal, rollover and down. If you don't want a visible button and let the user use the buttons on the playbar, then make this shape button invisible (alpha = 0 for Fill and stroke width =0).
    • In the Actions tab you'll see that the shape button will pause, that the default action is 'Go to Next Slide'. That is OK.
    • All slides using the main master slide (and the daughter master slides do use the objects on the main master slide, except Introduction in some themes) will now pause at their end, whatever their duration.

    Thank you, I will try that. I just started using this product; just trying the trial version. So I cannot manipulate the buttons that Captivate automatically puts in there? Do you know how I can see them? If I create my own button how will this override the ones that the software puts in? (There are buttons to advance, rewind, pause, etc. at the bottom of every slide, but I can't see them on the master slide...confused about that).

    ****Also do you know how I get something to show on multiple slides, or is that even possible? So if I have a title for a section of the training that lasts for 5 slides, do I have to copy and paste that title on each slide or is there a way to tell it I want it to appear on slides 5-9, for example? Thanks.

    The default playbar has its controls, but will pause the tutorial only when the user clicks on the Pause button. As I told, you can use that shape button either as a 'real' button, or if you prefer them to use the Next button on the playbar, just make it invisible (by using Alpha en stroke) and it will pause the slide at its end. Both Next button on the playbar and the Next button that you create custom can advance the slide to the next slide. If your course is not totally linear, in that case it is recommended not to use the Playbar, but to create navigation with custom buttons: you can have a lot of actions on the buttons, you can jump to another slide than the Next or the Previous one. That is not possible with the buttons on the playbar.

    You can time each object to remain for the rest of the project if you want it to show up on a sequence of slides. When you don't want those objects anymore you can hide them On Enter on the slide where you want them to disappear.

    Another way is to create a master slide that has that title. You can duplicate as many master slides as you want.
