Is there a way for a user to preview my project other than the .swf?

Hi there,

I always Publish my modules into a zip file, then share the .swf with colleagues - allowing them to review the course. However, a lot of the content uses 'Right Clicking' and pressing the TAB key. Now, this works fine when it's uploaded on to the LMS, but I want a way for this to be reviewed prior to uploading.

I've been told that other programmes (not Captivate) allow the user to save a 'Launch' format, that is an exact replica of what will be on the LMS?

I can't find anything similar on Captivate.

Any advise/suggestions/help is very much appreciated!

When you publish to SWF you do get multiple files in the (zipped) folder:

  • The SWF file with a name xxxxx.swf
  • JS file which is needed to have the right-click functionality
  • CSS file (for styles
  • the LAUNCH file xxxxx.htm (xxxxx is the same name as your SWF file).

It is necessary to use the launch file to start the course if you want it to have all functionality. That is valid for the LMS as well. If you have a file that will report as a SCO you'll have the same files + a bunch of files necessary for reporting. If you want to send the file first to collaborators before uploading to a LMS you'll have to publish without reporting if they want to play it locally. Beware: the location has to be a Flash trusted location. You can also upload to SCORM Cloud, and invite them to test it there.

    Are you planning to publish to SWF or to HTML5.  If it is SWF, you could try to publish to EXE, which is flash-based. The best way, if you don't want to use the Reviewer app, is to publish (SWF or HTML5) and to upload to a webserver and send an URL.

    If you continue to use the zipped folder with SWF, JS, CSS, .htm file, instruct to launch the xxxx.htm file, which will call the JS file and you'll have the right-click functionality.

    I publish to my computer as SWF. It is then uploaded to our LMS site. I'm not sure what you mean by 'instruct to launch the htm file?

    I'm looking in to the best webserver, as sending the URL seems most logical for multiple people to access for testing/reviewing.
