Pencil Tool Not Filling

Hi! Well, as the title says, thats my problem. Started halfway through a projekt. Now whenever I choose fill instead of stroke and make any kind of closed shape it just leaves the trace but does not fill.. and the box that showed the color gets the white "none" box with the red diagonal line on it. What is up? Im new to illustrator and I have tried to google but found nothing.

Double click on the Pencil tool in the Tools palette and enable the "Fill New Pencil strokes" option in the Pencil Tool Preferences dialog.

Thank you so much for this, this was driving me mad. Total mystery as to why this setting, i've never changed in my life, seemingly changed on two different machines randomly overnight?! Adobes background updates are starting to get so weird.
