Is there an easier way to edit AI templates from Adobe Stock?

Hey everyone,

I just downloaded a bunch of licenses for AI templates that are essentially useless to me. I just started opening the tempaltes using AI, thinking it would be an easy process to alter something as simple as text. Boy was I wrong, I've been pulling out my hair because I can't even figure out something as simple as editing text. Whenever I make a selection, I just get the traced outline. I'm a complete newb at AI, is there a simpler way to just edit the text in the file I downloaded?

Ive tried to export to PSD file and make the text edits in Photoshop since I have more experience there, however that doesn't work. It exports the text portions as images.

Look at the example below, what am I doing wrong. I just want to edit the word "presents" as an example, and I have no idea how to do it.

Outlined text is not editable so just delete the object and type in your own text 🙂

Thank you all very much for replying, although I'm bummed that I can't just substitute words using the fonts, I'm very pleased with how quick I got a response here.

Much appreciated

default7,

In addition to what Kenneth said, you can lock/hide the word Presents and Type your own word on top of it with a font of your choice; and you can show/hide the original word in the process of positioning the new word, before the final positioning to have it look its best.

The outlining of the text is generally necessary owing to font licencing terms for nonfree fonts.

I agree with S that the creators of the art ought to (be required to) state the names of the fonts used to give the buyers the best opportunities, either to buy the font(s) in question (or just download if free) or to be better equipped to find close alternatives.

For the latter, you can just try a search for fonts similar to [Font name]; DuckDuckGo is lean and mean.

Edit: And I agree with Ton who is also faster.

Given how often this comes up, I think it should be a requirement that such stock images list the fonts that were used by name and foundry, so the purchaser of the art can find and buy the fonts if they want to revise the text.

Agree and have a layer with outlined text and another hidden layer with the original editable text and fonts.
