P: Compare View on 2nd Monitor shows no image on Zoom.

Explorer ,
Oct 13, 2023 Oct 13, 2023

After LR Classic 13.0 and update 13.0.1 Lightroom is behaving weird on my second monitor.
Before I could use the compare mode on the second monitor when in the develop module on the first without any issues.
Could zoom in and out on the comparisons.
After the update this behaves odd.

Sometimes it will zoom in and out as before but most of the time it doesn't and one of the selected pics for comparison won't even show (just black) or sometimes even zooms in at a different percentage compared to the other. This only occurs when in the Develop module.

Switching from Compare to Loupe on the second monitor sometimes won't work either - display goes black.

When I switch to the Library module on the first screen there's no issue.

I've got a very robust Windows system with 32 GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB of RAM which before (v 12.5) just did the job without any trouble.

Seems like Adobe rushed to do this update but forgot to test it thouroughly.

Doh, it worked for 2 days and now is happening again. I can't see that anything changed. I've got nvidia, is there anyone having the problem who is NOT using an nvidia card?

Similar Issue. Secondary display will zoom in Library Mode but not in Develop Mode. Just a black screen.

The secondary display doesn't change when I move between photos with my arrow keys. Only if you click on a photo with the mouse...huge productivity issue.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography Since it's been 6 weeks since you acknowledged, can you provide an update? Has adobe reproduced the issue at least. It's seems easily reproduced.

@dsm1212

If an update were available, it would have already been posted. When there is additional information to provide, it will be posted.

Looking at the top of this forum post, you can see the post is "Acknowledged." When a fix is made available, the status will change to "Fixed."

@Rikk Flohr: Photography  Since you have posted no update and admit you have none, I conclude you have not reproduced it because that would be a useful update letting us stop wasting time posting more info. But if you have not reproduced it you should be asking for more info and you have not so my only conclusion is that no on has looked at it and that's why you have no update. I think you need to do better for all these customers who have had a problem for 6 weeks.

@dsm1212: "I conclude you have not reproduced it "

Rikk Flohr posted on 10/13/2023, "I am able to replicate the issue consistently on Windows 10 on nVidia GTX 970. I will log a bug."

Rikk's reply to Mark Suller immediately following might be confusing you, "@ Mark Suller,  I will merge you into this report as I couldn't repro your issue." Rikk is referring to the particular symptoms Mark reported.

Absolutely it sucks. Pretty standard from Adobe though, both for the poor quality coding and lack of rigourous testing that led to the bug in the first place, and for the totally abysmal lack of customer service in resolving it. Seen it before and will no doubt see it again. Today is 30th November 2023 - I fully expect to get to 30th November 2024 with this still unresolved and for the deafening silence from Adobe to be maintained throughout.

After my second round with support, spending over 3 hours total with Adobe remote controlling my machine, my case was escalated and I've been told "Our engineering team advised that this issue will be fixed with the new Lightroom 13.1".

I asked when 13.1 would be made available and was told they have no date.

"After my second round with support, ... I've been told "Our engineering team advised that this issue will be fixed with the new Lightroom 13.1".

That would be good news if true, but note that Adobe chat and telephone support is not trustworthy -- they often say things that aren't true.

LR releases a non-patch release on average every 8 weeks, so we might expect to see 13.1 in the next week or two. Given they just released the second patch release (13.0.2), it wouldn't be surprising if 13.1 was delayed a little bit.

@NYNC

As per our conversation on an unrelated thread, you have no submitted Crash Reports against version 13.0, 13.0.1 and 13.0.2 (released today).

Standard answer:

We’ve reviewed the email address you use with this forum and find no crash reports in our system.

Did you see a crash dialog?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe’s? Microsoft’s?

I only use the one email address. Neither Adobe nor MS issue a crash dialog. Lightroom keeps working with no data loss. However, Develop Module reproducibly doesn't work correctly unless GPU acceleration is turned off. With GPU acceleration turned on, Instead of showing a zoomed in view on monitor 2 when I click on it, LR displays a blank background with a small black rectangle in the lower left corner. LR behaves normally if I turn off GPU acceleration in Preferences, close LR, and restart LR.. Turn GPU acceleration back on and the issue recurs. Perhaps this isn't a "crash", per se, but it's clearly a reproducible bug introduced in LR 13 that persists in LR 13.01. As Adobe does not include this bug on the list of bugs addressed by LR 13.02, I have not tried LR 13.02 myself and remain rolled back to LR 12.5.

This is an AMD Ryzen desktop (not laptop) system with two monitors both plugged in to a single GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics card running the latest NVIDIA Studio driver. Puget Systems, who sold this machine, state that other customers are experiencing the same problem and also hoping for a solution.

Can you confirm that Adobe or NVIDIA or both are aware that this bug exists and will work to fix it? Alternatively, if Adobe isn't going to fix it, please let users know that  so we can decide whether to update to 13.02 and turn off GPU acceleration permanently. Users can't go back and forth between 12 and 13, as we all know, because 12.5 can't use a LR 13 catalog. Thanks.

Your description kinda sounds like this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-compare-view-on-2nd-monitor-shows-no-image-o...

Have you reviewed the complaints here to see how they match what you see?

Unless I overlooked it, the system info you posted is more than a month old. I will assume that you have updated the GPU driver at least once more. And ask, what is the GPU driver currently, what version?

Having almost exactly the same problem with LR Classic 13.01as described by davep60 on AMD Ryzen desktop system with two monitors running on GeForce RTX 3070 Ti with NVIDIA 546.01 Studio Driver (NVIDIA's latest). Click on Loupe view on second monitor in Develop mode and screen shows only grey background with a small black square in lower left hand corner. Develop module on monitor 1 zooms OK. Turn off GPU acceleration and LR behaves properly. Turn on GPU acceleration, and issue recurs. Reproducible. Clearly related to GPU acceleration with NVIDIA card. No crash reports as LR continues to run.
