P: (MS App Store Version) Message: Some photos were not added. Unable to copy file.

Community Beginner ,
Jul 13, 2021 Jul 13, 2021

Hi, I've recently subscribed to Lightroom and am being met with this error message upon trying to import any images.

'Some photos were not added. Unable to copy file.'

I've seen 2 other posts on here of the same issue but the solutions posted there didn't work.

I'm using windows 10, imported the files from my SD card to my hard drive. I am then trying to import to lightroom from my hard drive.

Thanks in advance

If you are seeing this error and had downloaded Lightroom from the Microsoft Store, please try installing Lightroom from https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom.html instead.

For others, I wonder if you could be running low on disk space? We should be giving proper messaging if so, but that's the current theory I'm trying to run down. You can tell Lightroom to take up less space locally by going to Edit > Preferences > Local Storage and reducing the "photo cache size"LocalStorage.png

I'd appreciat

@Christoph Lurz  It isn't necessary to have two subscriptions.  Download at the link Julie provided earlier and log in with your original Ms-purchased ID.

The engineers would love to collect a diagnostic log from you. Can you provide one?

For LrDesktop

  • Go to Preferences
  • Account Section
  • Hold down the [Opt/Alt] key to make [Diagnostic Log] button appear

I'm get this same error "Some photos were not added/unable to copy". I'm running on a desktop/Windows11. When I try to add photos, exactly 3 will add and the rest are unable to copy.  None will add on retry, but if I exit Photoshop and wait a bit: 3 more will add.

I've reloaded from the creative cloud, I've rebooted, I've waited overnight... still the same situation. I have lots of space on my light room cloud storage. Any suggestions?

I have recently encountered a problem when importing photos (of all file types) in Lightroom. When I import photos most will not show up and it reads this message. I have tried importing from seperate SD Cards, Folders, and everything else imaginable. Very few photos actually succesfully import and I haven't noticed a pattern. Any help?Capture.PNG

Hi,

I'm afriad the described fix did'n't work for me. LR is of the latest version (MACos) and so is the Creative Cloud app. Of 66 files (RAW) 11 will not be imported, whatever I do. I've tried it several times, including storing these particulary files directly on my hard drive and try to import them from there... the other 55 were important right away, without any issues.

Hope (another) fic will be available soon.

Thanks in advance!

One suggestion: it worked when the bug was still there (for me). Try to
open the webpage version of LR (lightroom.adobe.com) and import from there.
It certainly is slower but quite reliable, for me anyway.

The problem seems to have miraculously fixed itself. I tried all the recommended solutions and nothing worked. My version was fully updated. Even reloading the software. I finally gave up for a while because I was in the middle of a project and needed to just get the pictures uploaded. I ended up importing hundreds of photo's 3 at a time and then weeks later ...it worked. Very strange because I was uploading some pictures and it failed (as usual), I closed the software and reopened to try for 3 more and it took all of the pictures. Since then it has been just fine. Weird but since it's working, Im happy.

Donna H, that's great news that this started to work for you recently. I am wondering if this could be due to an update of the OS. Would you mind telling us what version of Windows you're on? To find out,

1. Click the Windows Start button in the lower left

2. Type "System Info" and hit Enter

3. See the secon line ("Version") in the System Information app that appears. For example, mine says "Build 22000"

Steph245..., please see the suggestion from Rikk in the green box near the top of the page to download Lightroom from www.adobe.com instead of the Microsoft Store.

I'm on Windows 11 build 22000.675

The idea that an OS upgrade made the difference make sense except - I was uploading files and getting the 3 at a time reponse. All I did in between was exit Lightroom and re-enter. Which is what I would do to get it to load 3 more files. And...it suddenly took all the uploads I fed it. No updates in between and definitely no reboot. It's been working ever since.

Is there a way to see where I downloaded Lightroom from? I can’t remember
if I downloaded it from the Microsoft store or through Adobe.com

Open Microsoft Store then search for Lightroom. If it says Installed, you
have the app store version.

Another way is to look at the app tray (lower right hand of task bar) to
look for the Adobe Cloud icon. If it's there open it and you'll see a list
of Adobe apps installed. If you see LR here, you have the adobe.com version.

hello i have been through all the forums and i have installed Lightroom cc from the adobe creative app (not windows store) and im still getting the error saying (some photos were not added) which is the larger majority of my photos . i have not been able to find a fix for this anywhere and im losing money because of it .. i have tried all of the fixes and nothing is helping . i have been taking my files off the sd card then uploading them to google drive then downloading them all to my phone and importing them to my mobile lightroom cc because thats the only way that it doesnt give me this error. and its a massive screw around . mind you lightroom was working fine without this bug for years then one day just out of the blue it started doing it and i have not been able to find a fix since... any help would be amazing. i cant be the only one..

@reuben5C68 I found that using the web page version: lightroom.adobe.com always works (even during the days when any installed app didn't) so I suggest that you try it out. You may not be satisfied with the import speed (since it is a webpage, during the import, actual upload will be running) but I found it acceptable because I only upload 36-38 (one roll of film scanned) photos a time.

So does browser Lightroom cc sync all my photos and work with my app? like if i upload my nefs to the browser version will they appear in my app thats not currently accepting imports?

@reuben5C68 Yes, it does. That's why i dumped LR classic and went with CC. As much as I don't want to keep paying monthly, having a single source of truth make things much simpler. I see photos on all my devices no matter where I uploaded. I edit on one device, those edits are reflected on other devices.
