P: Allow Direct Importing images into iPad with ios 13

I'm using Lightroom Mobile (4.3.2) on an iPadPro-2018. I want to import images from an SD card into LR.
Here's my import process:
-Attach card reader to UBS-C port, insert SD card
-Open Files.app and browser to the SD Card
-Select the photos you want to import into LR
-Select "Share" in the lower left corner of the Files.app

At this point, I should be able to select Lightroom. However, the LR option ONLY appears if the number of files is 10 or fewer. More than 10 files and the Lightroom icon does not appear. With this process, no more than 10 images can be imported into LR at a time.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Has anyone found a workaround? And yes, I have reported this to Apple.

Thanks for your feedback.

In my test, I succeeded in directly importing more than ten RAW pictures from an SD card, using "import from Files". But sadly Lightroom didn’t let me import the video files coming from my Canon G7x camera (MP4 files). I hope Adobe will allow this quickly, because the official iOS page says that the "Image Capture API" is now available : https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-13/feat...

That's Josh Haftel, he's the product manager for mobile.

SUCCESS!

I just imported 200+ jpg files from an SD card directly into LR mobile. I am using an iPad (2018) and the new LR mobile (5.0). The steps I used from the LR screen:

Add photos – From files – SD card – Select all – Open (there is a long delay at this point where nothing seems to happen. Eventually, you should see the count of all photos go up.)

I’m anxious to hear others results. Someone should inform the product manager of the updates included in 5.0.

This is good news! Could you try a load of RAWs? I will give it a go tonight.
If they have actually sorted this why they wouldn't mention it in the release notes i don't know

I did it with 200+ raws a couple of weeks ago, and yes that worked. The long delay when it doesn't feel like anything's happening and no integration with the normal dialog where you can see which ones are already imported are likely the reason they're not shouting about it yet.

Just tested out and managed to import over 150 RAW files directly. It’s not a great process as there’s no indication anything is happening but eventually some of the photos display and after couple more minutes some more display.

Adobe posted a video this week showing how this will work in an upcoming Lightroom update coming by the end of the year (aka December).

You got a link?

It is working for me but I think the problem is at the moment it looks like it isn’t doing anything. You select all the RAW, click open and the dialog closes and this is where it looks like it’s not doing anything. But if you leave it your photos start to appear after a few minutes

That is correct. Currently, it's an undocumented feature and not ready for primetime. The update should fix that.

Thanks ha d a look at it and it’s better from the importing point of view as you have a status of what it’s actually doing however can’t see why they don’t give your the option to creat a new album in the process instead of it importing into the the recently added then having to create and album the reselect the photos to move them to the album.

Good news, and thanks for the update. Unfortunately I have to continue to use Photo app to import my photos AND VIDEOS from my Canon G7X mark II.
I hope there will be a next update that will allow DIRECT VIDEO IMPORT.

With the new update I am unable to import more that about 10-20 raw files before Lightroom crashes. Can cr.2 files from SD card attached via cable. Closes the app completely.

Suzanne, I find no crash reports from you under the email you've used on this forum. Do you use a different email?
Do you get a crash report dialog?
Is the dialog from the OS or Adobe?
If no dialog then it sounds like a hardware failure - likely memory.

No crash report. Lightroom just shuts down. Ipad pro 9.7".
Thanks for responding. I am trying to find a viable way to use ipad while traveling and syncing back to classic via synced collection. It all works except for the direct import issue.

Ah, I missed this was an iPad. Apologies

What is the free space on the iPad?
How old is the iPad?
I assume you are on iOS 13.3? Lightroom 5.1 for iPad?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the App?

Ok. That is a 2016 iPad Air and should meet specs no problem.

  1. Restart the iPad
  2. Launch Lightroom
  3. As soon as it crashes, restart Lightroom and immediately create a log file.
Instructions:

iOS Log File

can be triggered when you  open up the  Lr Mobile settings and  then navigate in to the Help & Support section and long-press (2-3 sec) “Access our Support Forum”-entry and a  diagnostic log will be generated and attached to your local mail client.

I will send you an email with the instructions where to send.

@Deleted User : I see that this conversation / idea is now labeled as « implemented ». But I really need to import (short) videos as well as images. Lightroom allows this when I first use Photos app and then import to Lightroom, but not directly from an SD card. Is this already planned in the roadmap? If not, do I have to open another « idea », or do we have to reopen this idea?

You should create a new Idea post as this post was primarily focused on direct image import.
