P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Hello,

I have a problem when I want to edit a photo from lightroom in photoshop using the existing function in lightroom.

I get an error after which it opens the image in photoshop but it takes about 3/4 minutes.

I am having the same issue with not being able to launch a photo in Photoshop Beta 25.0 from the edit in feature in Lightroom Classic. I, too, have found the file will open approximately 2 minutes later after receiving the error message and clicking 'Ok'.

The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (Beta) could not be launched.

I have also found that reverting to 24.7 allows the photo to be launched in Beta. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 25.0 multiple times. Yesterday, I stumbled upon something that might be the cause. However, I have not been able to replicate it. After uninstalling 25.0 I noticed that my Mac's dock contained the '?' indicating the location of the previous Phtoshop beta icon. However, at the right end of the dock there was another Photoshop Beta icon with a dot underneath indicating it was still open. (This was after it had been uninstalled.) I clicked on the icon and Photoshop Beta opened. I opened Creative Cloud and it showed that Photoshop Beta 25.0 (and previous versions) were available to be installed. So, it appears that multiple programs existed on my my MAC. I closed the program and 'quit' the application from the dock. I thoroughly searched my computer and could not find any other reference, files, apps that indicated Photoshop Beta still existed or was installed. I reinstalled 25.0 and the original issue repeated itself. At this point I have decided to give up and be happy with 24.7 for the time being. However, I was really excited to try out the new Expand feature in 25.0. Hopefully there is a fix, soon!

Latest LR here on Windows 11 with both PS updated to 24.7 and beta 25 just 2 days ago. Since then I can't "Edit in Photoshop" any more. I can manually configure old PS via custom preset and that works.

It launches the app but no images are loaded and then minutes later LR starts to complain that PS wasn't loaded, etc, sometimes this fancy error. And then it loads that file. Hardly tolerable at all when you need to do work.

On the surface of it beta became 25.0 or 2024. Maybe something doesn't connect anymore. It wasn't great but now it just stops us from working.

PS Beta V 25.0 will no longer open photos for editing from LR V 12.4 when using MAC OS Ventura 13.5. The following error message is displayed:  The file could not be edited because PS Beta could not be launched.

sometning i don't understand is why LRC doesn't open image in PS, because we all have the same error message, and after 2 or 3 attemps, 2 or 3 minutes, finally the image popup in PS or PS Beta,  so it should be easy for Adobe to fix that, i guess we will have new LRC, PS and PS Beta soon, hope these version won't create any new problem. It would be kind from Adobe to make a discount on every clients next payment...

When I use E or the dropdown menu to transfer a photo from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop Beta, it starts Photoshop but the file transfer does not happen. After some seconds, I get a message in Lightroom which says “The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (beta) could not be Launched.” This is false because it has launched Photoshop. Also, as soon as I hit OK on that message from Lightroom, it switches to Photoshop and the file has been transferred.

This does not happen with any of the other plugins (Topaz or ON1). I have already uninstalled Photoshop Beta and reinstalled it. No difference. This transfer worked fine until yesterday.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Rob

SAME problem here (version 24.7.0)! Every 2nd or 3rd image my photoshop freezes when I open Camera Raw. A small window pops up (progress bar), but then it freezes. The only solution is to force quit and then repoen photoshop. This is extremely frustrating, as it slows my workflow and I only can work on 2 or 3 images before the next forced quit. Meanwhile I save the image before opening Camera Raw, as a lesson of many lost hours of unsaved editing.

I already tried all the preferences settings in https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html but it didn´t fix the problem.

PLEASE ADOBE, HELP!!!

I'd say due to it being a BETA it's not quite ready for prime time and Adobe is using everyone as free guinea pigs to play with their new versions and report back.  I just uninstalled the Beta and will wait until they release the new features to the full version.

Hilfe. Also weder Fehlermeldung noch Bearbeitungsmöglichkeit.

I have latest version of Lightroom classic and I also have Photoshop 2023 and Photoshop Beta 2023 installed. I also configured Photoshop Beta 2023 as additional PSD editor. Now the problem is when I am in LR and try to right click on any image and say Edit in Photoshop Beta 2023 then I get a popup message saying not able to open external editor Photoshop Beta, I click OK and next moment it creates the PSD file of the original file and than open Photoshop Beta 2023 but to do this all sometime it take 2 minutes and some time more.  I am on Mac OS latest version. All patching of OS, Adobe including RAW and all are latest.

From what I have read their are many having the same issues. Cannot open in layers. The Beta version is not working. Now my Lightroom keeps wanting to import images every 2 minutes.

I have tried taking Photoshop and the Beta version back to previous versions to no avail. It started on the 29th July. Hoping for a fix from adobe today.

Hi Sameer,

I also have been running into this issue since the latest update. When I choose to Edit in Photoshop (beta), nothing happens for a while, and then a few minutes later I am hit with a bunch of delayed error messages. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled as you mentioned above, but nothing has helped.  This puts a major delay in my workflow - wondering if there might be another workaround?

This last error message pops up  quite a bit and I have to hit ok several times for it to go away.

I am experiencing a similar problem, starting with Photoshop Beta 25.0.0 update on Mac OS X and Intel chipset. Ventura 13.5. I cannot open it in Photoshop as layers or a single image edit. The problem also occurs with production Bridge 13.0.3.393.

If I am patient, I first get the error: The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (Beta) could not be launched.

Wait about 5 minutes, and the image opens in Photoshop. I understand Beta code is Beta code. There will be bugs and performance issues. I'm sure there is a bunch of debug code running, and things have not been optimized. As a beta citizen, I am reporting the issue.

When I first encountered the problem, I uninstalled all Adobe apps and reinstalled the production code. Everything was working as expected. When I installed the beta, the problem came back. Of course, my workaround is configuring LrC to open the production 2023 code, not the beta.

HI

I had an upgrade to photoshop Beta 25.0

Problem when transfering files to edit in PS there are problems creating the TIF file to load into PS,

It loads PS 25.0 but fails to load the TIF.
then you get back to LR it advises it cannot start PS 2024 and creates the TIF file.

Environment
Dell XPS 9520 32 GB Ram - 3 TB SSD
Win 11
PS (Beta) 25.0
LRC 12.4
Canon EOS R3 CR3 files
Problem does not exist with PS (Beta) 24.7
