P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Up until the latest update (I updated yesterday) I was able send my lightroom photos to photoshop beta to edit. Now they wont open, and I'm getting this message:

The files could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (Beta) could not be launched."

I've been using beta as my go-to work flow. Any suggestions on what I could do on my end would be great.

Many thanks for the temporary fir @CShubert . Like many I am experiencing the same issue of a long delay and an erronious error. If it is any help, I am running Win 11 on an AMD 2700x with an RTX2060, not that that is the likely cause. All at latest versions. The features in the Beta are fantastic. Development seems to be running at an amazing pace. Well done to all involved.Screenshot 2023-08-10 203923.png. I look forward to the next release

Hi community,

There is a problem with my Adobe software' LR&PS. The "edit in" command does not open the image in Photoshop. With the above action, Photoshop opens and ... nothing happens.

Restart doesn't fix the problem, same problem with PS 2023 and PS Beta. Mac OS 13.4.1 (M1 proces), never had this problem before (noticed it since back from holiday).

How to fix this ?

PS : my brother in law (same versions Adobe, but iMac with older proces (i5 - 2017) has te same problem (since last updates).

I am opening PS 2023 1st and then PS (Beta) and then opening LR Classic. This is how I have been doing it since I got the Beta and files have been opening in PS 2023 like I want until now. Now, as I did before, I am getting the diologue box with "Open in PS 2023" option which I click and then PS opens but the image doesn't open. Any ideas? I have tried restarting the computer.

Same thing happened to me, one day Lightroom's default editor became Photoshop 2024. I had to uninstall all versions of photoshop, and LR classic and reinstall each one.

and PS Beta.

That would be your problem. Lots if discussions (probably getting merged) on PS Beta, fouling things up. Worse for Windows OS than  MAC. Multiple posts on a daily basis.

Search this community on that.

Another thing that I have noticed is that when after importing the file from lightroom ( had to do as a smart object) to photoshop after you work on the file and save the new file is not updated in lightroom...  very frustrating...

Same here, errors trying to edit in Photoshop from Lightroom, could still edit if the Tiff already existed, but would hang and have errors. This is an issue with Photoshop Beta 25.0 earlier versions do not cause this issue. None of the fixes suggested on any help forum fix it (uninstalling, reinstalling, clearing settings, cache, etc) but reverting to 24.7 does fix it, so clearly the issue is with the new Beta version which is really annoying since @CShubert just announced we're losing access to generative fill if we don't upgrade. Would be nice if this is fixed if the upgrade is essentially being forced.

Yes, this problem just started last weekend for me with the recent update of photoshop. It was running fine and allowing me to choose whichever version of Photoshop I wanted to, and all of the sudden it broke. I hope Adobe read these threads and let us know when they fixed the problem.

I've heard about this issue on MacOS systems.

Please try this: Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.

If this doesn't help the nest step is to reinstall both apps Lightroom and Photoshop. Please follow the steps below:

1. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Client and uninstall both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. When asked, keep preferences!

2. Install Photoshop first and then Lightroom Classic. The right order is very important here!

If this doesn't help try the reinstallation steps above with removing the preferences also.

If this also doesn't help try to rollback to Photoshop 24.6

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 -- LR-Classic 14 - Photoshop 26 - Nik Collection 7 - PureRAW 4 - Topaz PhotoAI 3

Found the solution on this post : https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/the-file-could-not-be-edited-because-ad...

You have to get to the last version of Beta waiting for new update.

When I go to edit an image from Lightroom in Photoshop Beta it now no longer seems to work. It takes ages to load, often popping up with an error message saying it was unable to open Beta (even if it's already open) and if the image eventually appears, it's in TIFF and won't save back in to Lightroom gallery making my workflow almost impossible. Updated both today. Any fixes?

Bonjour,

Cordialement
