P: Photoshop Beta & v26.1 on Windows - Launch Error: dxcore.dll

Today after the update I encountered that my Photoshop won't open due to this error: “(Photoshop beta.exe) Failed to continue code execution because the system did not detect dxcore.dll. To fix this error, try reinstalling the application.”

I have reinstalled several times already, but it didn't help me in any way. I also searched for solutions, but found nothing useful 😞
Since I urgently need the program for work, I wanted to install at least the previous version, but from what I understand, it is not possible to do so

FYI, this has not been fixed (12/03/24)

, and I was told by ADOBE support that the reason it does not work (on our system) is that we are using WINDOWS 2019, which oddly has been in use with our TEAM account for ~10 years. So now that they've pushed an update that has disabled the software, I'm being told that it won't work (after hours of IT uninstalling/reinstalling based on their requirements).

I previously shared: [after some people reported success] I am unable to do the requested process given the error won't even launch either the full Photoshop nor the Beta. When I try to open Beta, I receive this message "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140_ATOMIC_WAIT.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

And, when I try the full Photoshop it states "The code execution cannot proceed because dxcore.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." I hit OK, and another window error pops up stating the same as the Beta.

@CShubert Here's some of my info in case it's of use. I'm using Windows 10 and the Creative Cloud app isn't updating past version 5. I've tried uninstalling it and downloading the installer again but the result is the same. The Photoshop Beta is working but regular Photoshop does not. Nothing happens when I try to open it through the Creative Cloud app but opening it through the start menu gives me the dxcore.dll error.

@defaultazn8j9f5giay we see you have a teams account... is it possible your IT Admin has locked down updates?  Please check with them to make sure you are able to update your CCD and Ps beta apps and let us know if this might be your issue.

Hi, I have been waiting for many days since this issue appeared on my PS. It says dxcore.dll is missing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times but I still cannot open PS. Please fix this issue as soon as possible.

We do not use beta versions in production. We are also currently unable to revert to an older version, as this option is not offered in either the web interface or the desktop app. We are still receiving the dxcore.dll error and cannot start Photoshop. How can we restart our production without having to switch to another software?

In all its Glory, ADOBE has made a mess of our systems with the recommended tech changes to fix that issue created by their update.  Ultimately, we could not get it working or install an older product version.  I could not get a straight answer as to why we could not revert to an older version that 'worked', but hey, I'm not a computer programmer, so maybe I just don't understand.  I do know that after 10's of hours from our IT (who are programmers), they could not get it to work. So we're done and walking away from ADOBE for these products.  If you happen to have annual subscriptions, be aware that you will need to re-up by haggling with their support and then cancel the new subscriptions after they refund the prorated old subscriptions.  This sounds like a hassle, but it's not bad, given we're talking about thousands of dollars.

Adobe tend not to announce releases in advance for roll out of bug fixes. They would normally test a fix on their own systems, then in the beta to ensure the fix works across various operating systems and hardware configurations, and does not inadvertently introduce new issues. Then they refine further or build into the roll out schedule for dot releases.

Hey everybody, for those of you NOT on Ps beta, the update that will be out soon for Ps release version will fix this, but in the meantime:

1) use Beta build OR

2) update to a more recent version of Windows (Windows 10 22H2) which looks like it does have dxcore.dll.

Estoy teniendo problemas con Photoshop. Al intentar abrir el programa me aparece el siguiente mensaje de error "The code execution cannot proceed because dxcore.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"

Ya he reinstalado el programa, ya ejecuté AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool y no logré solucionar el problema.

Hace tres días estoy perdiendo tiempo valioso y dinero porque no encuentro respuesta.

Suffering through the same issues as everyone else! IT won't update Windows unless I let them completely re-image my laptop and wipe out everything. No time for that nonsense at a university in finals week. When is this fix going to be ready? Why can't we just download the missing .dll file?

This dxcore.dll dependency doesn't work on older operating systems that are outside Ps system requirements. The system info that was shared in this thread is from 2018, 4 years earlier than our min support version from Oct 2022. That explains why we didn't catch the problem before we released our last update.

While we have implemented a workaround in the Beta that appears to work for older systems, are watiing for the full testing cycle to complete to move that over to the regular release. For those of you restricted from accessing the Beta, our apologies for the frustrating situation, which is only made worse if your organization also does not allow you to get the Beta version.

One workaround, if you have access, can be to use Photoshop web until the release comes out; not all features are there, but maybe enough for you to make progress, and the files are 100% the same as desktop Ps; you will be able to open them in desktop, too, when you are up and running again. If your plan includes it, you can get to the web version of Ps from this icon in the Creative Cloud app:
