P: Photoshop Beta Generative Fill produces different colors at the edges of the selection.

When trying to add additional areas to the edges of an image using Generative Fill, it creates mismatched colors at the junction of the new and existing parts. It deviates slightly from the original areas, resulting in a grid-like pattern in those areas where new parts were created using the Generative Fill option, even if I fill them with 1024x1024 pixel sections.

I have already uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, but the issue persists. I am using an iMac Pro running Ventura 13.3.1 system.

hi @Marion26879791nit1 ,

the work around I use now, when external editing photos from LrC to PS beta 25.0:

in both LrC and PS I have colorspace set to prophotoRGB, external edit via 16bit tiff, no ZIP compresison

once photo is opened in PS, I go to edit -> convert to profile, select sRGB

generative fill works for me, even the color blending

once the edit is done, go back to edit -> convert to profile, select prophotoRGB, then go again to edit ->assign profile - working RGB : prophotoRGB

ctrl + s

and I have it back in LrC

Maybe others will find this workaround useful too.

@Radim5EBC we want to make sure you understand that converting a file from ProPhotoRGB to sRGB means you are throwing away colors since the sRGB color space is smaller. While it is fine to do this if you intend to, converting BACK to ProPhotoRGB will not put those colors back, they are gone and they cannot be recovered.

Hi @CoryShubert ,

yes, I know it. Unfortunately, I cannot use generative fill in other bigger colorspaces, cause the blending is of and probably part of the process is using the sRGB on adobe servers anyway. This is still a bug.

With the new Beta update (v25.0), generative expand gives an almost unusable line where the generation starts. You can see exactly what has expanded because it looks like a different photo was added on. (Example added. It's pretty obvious where it was expanded)

For me "on a mac" using sRGB colorspace from "European General Purpose 3" instead of my usual Adobe RGB and just restarting seems to solve the mismatching colors as a temporary fix. So the document can keep the original profile but just work in sRGB...

I played with the color profiles a little bit and probably found better workaround.

LrC set to ProPhotoRGB, PS set to sRGB, in the color setting for RGB set Preserve Embedded Profiles and Profile Mismatches: Ask When Opening, like this (this one is optional, just you don't forget, that your default colorspace is set to sRGB)

Now, in LrC ctrl + e will open photo in PS with this form:

This override the working space and leave photo in ProPhotoRGB.

Generative fill now matches the scene and blends with colors.

Hey,

I'm back and I'm not sure why my problem woundup in this thread. As my profile states I'm new, but the problems being expressed in this thread, specifically realted to generative fills have nothing to do with my problem. The color errors are also clearly drawscreen errors as they relate to zooming in and out.

That being said, I think I did figure out what's going on. I don't have enough RAM and somehow this generates a fatal drawscreen error (this is my own made-up term, but I thought it fit and sounded good). For example, the file I use as an example in this thread is now 3.85 GB and has 74 layers. When I open the file, it takes up 58.1 GB or RAM and 53.1 GB on the scratch disk (a 1 TB SSD). Now that 58.1 GB is perilously close to the machine limit of 64GB. And if I go too high, that's when Photoshop cannot redraw the screen correctly. Now why that corrupts the file, I have no idea. However, this is what I've got so far.

Hello All,

Following the recent (8/21) update which fixed the crash issue, the generative fill seems to have a hue problem.

In the attached two examples (1) extending the sky, and (2) removing a vehicle fromthe picture does work, but with an excess of what seems to be magenta.

Many thanks for your recommendation, or consideration, if this is a bug...

Hello,

I have a problem with Adobe Beta’s generative fill , which I had not until I uploaded a new version, 20.0.0

Since I don’t like coming to the table empty handed I have brought as much information as I could.

I am enclosing two images since the problem can be seen clearly. I am also adding The System information.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I have tried loading my raw files into Camera raw and continuing on to photoshop , just to see if it made a difference, I have tried jpegs instead of PSD, and nothing seems to work. I have tried unlocking the image , copying the masque, . Nothing happens. I have even tried going from 16 Bit to 8 bit.

However , I can get a quick fix if I change my image setting from RVB to CMJN

I thought that the images would keep the titles on them, they don't so the third image is by changing the setting from RVB to CMJN ; THis is not a fix, I just needed to find away around the problem for the time being.

after a lot of test and some call with friends the unique way is:

modify-color setting and in setting set up the "generic use european 3".

with this method back to work without surprise. anyway this is a bug to solve.

Lorsque je fais un remplissage génératif sur une photo RGB, on semble me générer un calque en CMJN. Le calque proposé n'est pas dans les mêmes teintes (plus rougeâtre) que l'image initiale.

That is a standard photoshop setting for colors that sets sRGB as the color space among other things that temporary fixes discoloration when using gererative fill.
