This is a bug. Please don't move it to the Discussions tab.

And please don't merge into another unrelated thread. I will report a bug with this thread.

------------------------------------

I made a YouTube video using a keyboard mouse overlay to show what action I'm taking. I hope you can refer to refer to it.

https://youtu.be/Cle6dEgP5_Y

------------------------------------

I was disappointed that there were so many bugs that were not fixed in 24.5, but I was still trying to give it a shot.

However, this bug is pretty serious. Really...

Please see the video I attached.
If you watch the video, you will see that I am shaking the screen.
I'm not using a hand tool, it should release automatically, but that thing is sticky.

To release this sticky, pinned handtool, you'll need to make one more unconditional click.

Here's how I've organized them for your reference.

< What I can be sure of >

  1. Window10 (Tested a total of 14 PCs)
  2. Use WacomTablet
  3. Not related to preferences at all (Especially not related to Spring loaded, Flick panning stuff things)
  4. I've tried all the known Photoshop troubleshooting methods and no improvement.
  5. Even reinstalling Windows does the same thing
  6. Only in 24.5 does this bug occur with certainty. I can't reproduce it at all in earlier versions.

I'm not sure about the >

  1. Mac OS not tested
  2. I couldn't even test if it was a GPU company difference. I and my team all use NVIDIA

And while there are a few threads pointing this out, there doesn't seem to be a proper plan to fix it.

If this is not fixed in 24.6, 24.6 will be equally unusable as 24.5.

We wanted to update this thread that the issue was fixed with the release of 25.6. If you are still having this issue with the most recent Ps version, please start a new thread with your information so the team can investigate further.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Got the same problem here, PS 2024 (version 25) running on a 1060 6GB. Never had this issue, it started this week. Also, the cursor seems to be acting like shift is being pressed (when using the mouse) and it's misaligned. Can't proper click the menus, they hide as if I was clicking outside. All cursor tools aren't aligned to the cursor.

Using the mouse:

Taking our money and asking for simpathy for their buggy software and incopetent developers is really a new low level for Adobe.

As I mentioned before:

Would prefer software functioning to the point instead of fancy new features, which partitely we have to pay credits for.

And like in Adobe Stock (29,99€/month for 10 pcs. of stock media OR 1 (!) HD video is simply an impudence!), they are quite limited. Thankfully there are alternatives, which are much cheaper, providing the same high qualtity media. What a mess 😞

Photoshop once was my absolut favourite software. Every day I was working like: "Great, and I get even paid for that!".

Nowadays it's more:"Oh no... the next bug! Now I have to downgrade again. Next time I will check the community forums, for reports of new or still not fixed bugs!"

If i wouldn't throw away over 2 decades of knowledge in this software, I would have already turned my back on this bag of bugs! But Adobe is totally aware about them being the market leaders.

Good for them, bad for us users 😞

It's frustrating when this program costs alot of money and simple tasks are broken with every update.  CR in PS is messed up right now.

I'm getting tired of simple software commands broken on every update. Adobe customers are being slowed down or a complete work stop because Adobe releases error riddled updates and we have to wait on them to maybe fix it.  Paying customers want their pictures.

I'm going to start looking into ON1 editing software.

It's November soon. I'm surprised that this thread I reported is already 5 months old.
Some of the bugs I reported were fixed quickly or late.

object selection bug - about two months
https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-object-selection-very-slow-response-photos...

Subject crash bug with Nvdia Driver - from 23.4.1 to 24.0..... 😃

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-object-selection-or-select-subject-crashin...

Yes, everyone. It will be fixed some day. Don't worry too much...

Has anyone confirmed whether or not this has been fixed with the 25.1 Update? I haven't had a chance to try and find out.

@SteveEE I haven't tried the 25.1 version yet.
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html
But it wouldn't have been fixed because it wasn't included in "Fixed issue."
All versions after 24.5 were not included in the fixed issue, but I remember testing it just in case it was resolved.
This is a bug already recognized by the Adobe team, and if fixed it would be written in fixed issue. It's your freedom to test, but...

Now wait for 25.2.... 😃

I think this issue might be related to the spring loaded tool setting.  I've experimented with disabling it and restarting the program which makes the problem go away, at least temporarily.  So I've been using version 25 lately and only occasionally having to restart the program, but I have that setting permanently disabled.

But you don't really consider that a success, right?

Switching off one of the best features navigating a photo and "only" have to restart Photoshop occasionally?!

What is that sort of software, that requires to be reloaded every now and then?

I am repeating myself over and over again, I know.

BUT I want an recent version of Photoshop that's functioning.

Spare those fancy new features and make the features, which we are used to, reliable!

We pay valid money for that on a monthly/yearly basis. And we want the service/software, we pay for. PERIOD!

Guys, I advise you to try to stop paying for only one month, and you are faster out of access to their software, than you can say "bug-bite".

It's a shame 😞

I didn't say or suggest that it was a succes to disable features but I guess you are frustrated.  I'm just reporting my experience with hopes that it might be helpful to Adobe or someone else.  It's helpful to me because spring loaded tools has never worked well for me since it was first introduced into Photoshop.  Disabling it saved me the aggravation of dealing with always trying to use it and having it only work 40% of the time.  Other than that, I want 100% of the features to work properly.

@SteveEE - I can confirm it is NOT fixed in 25.1. Installed 25.1 today because I was unable to work in 24.6. Exact same issue. Grabber hand is the only cursor I get no matter which tool I select. Tried relaunching PS, tried rebooting. This is a bug that needs a code fix! Until then, PS is bricked for me.

And still no one bothers to react to the new posts here.

Every other software I know and use, would get a hotfix within a few days.

Especially the ones, which are paid once and don't follow a subscription model.

But who cares at Adobe, what the users, who pay on a regular basis want and need?! 😞

First reply to the reported bug at August,01,2023:

"The team is looking into, thank you!"

Thanks Adobe for looking into that for a full quarter of a year.

Any success? Guess, not.

Just subscribed for Adobe Photoshop again after a couple of years and found this error on the first day of work with the newest version to date (25.1). Coming here and seeing that it was reported months ago and until now it wasn't fixed is REALLY frustating...

Just wanted to add myself to another one affected by this issue.

Was using Photoshop 2020 until now with no issues. Upgraded to Photoshop 25.0 and the pan tool sticks after letting go of the spacebar. It's alarming to see how far this bug goes, and how no fixes have been provided to date...

No additional news from my last post.

As I indicated previously, we have seen the bug happen. Briefly. Rarely. And then it goes away. For us. We have and continue to have an extraordinarly difficult time reproducing this bug (and other related lost-mouse-up) issues. Unil we can do that, any fixes I might think of would be purely speculative and unverifiable.

I fully appreciate that for some of you, this bug happens all the time.

Please continue to post information about environments, conditions, and gesture sequences where the bug is observed. Those are helpful, and we are reading those and incorporating that information into our testing efforts.

I suggested this once before. But why can't you go visit a couple of people
that are having this problem, so you can see it first hand, in a real world
setting? Surely Adobe can afford some travel expenses. I'm also quite sure
that there are a lot of people that would be glad to have you come and run
whatever tests you wanted on their machine.

Now, here is what happens on my Cyberpowerpc computer, running windows 10.
I open an image in PS. It doesn't matter what kind of image, or it's file
size. Change to full screen, of leave it in a window. Doesn't matter. Zoom
in, so image is much bigger than screen. Press and hold space bar, left
click and move image. Before, I could release mouse button while continuing
to hold space bar, move curser, left click again, and repeat as needed to
move anywhere on the image. But now, sometimes right away, sometimes after
a couple of clicks, the hand tool will not release when I let go of the
mouse. I must hit the left click 2 or 3 times to release it. Or recently I
have noticed it will usually release it if I hit the space bar a couple of
times.

If I am very careful to release the space bar first, then release the left
click, it will always release the hand tool.

Now with my Wacom tablet, used to be I could hold space bar, raise pen
slightly, move to another spot, place pen on tablet, drag image. Repeat as
needed. Now I have to be very careful to release space bar every time .

Similar to the other person regarding the hand tool, but also with selection tools when drawing a crop box, zoom box, selection box, Type highlight of a string of words to select and replace, etc... When I click and drag and release - it doesn't. It seems like doing it faster makes it more likely to happen.
