When I try to paint with a clean brush instead of picking up the colour from the base layer, it's selecting the foreground colour even though I've deselected it.
Below you can see:
Image 1) I've a base layer. An empty layer to paint on. "Load Solid Colours Only" deselected.
Image 2) It should sample from the base layer and allow me to paint with only those colours, but instead it's automatically using the foreground colour.
Anyone else experiencing this bug and found how to fix it?
The bug that was fixed is what @Michal G_1 described in this thread back in July.
The issue where the foreground color gets loaded on change of brush size or flip foreground/background color has been around as far back as PS 2018. That has not been fixed.
Thanks. Engineering will take a look.
Hi Jeffrey, Is there an update to this bug yet?
No. We will update this thread when a fix is available.
This bug was not fixed in the latest update.
We're happy to announce the release of Photoshop 23.4. This update includes the fix for this issue. To see the list of all fixed issues, click here
To update Photoshop to 23.4, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop. More detailed instructions for updating

I had never got this issue before, but since I updated to 23.4, now, I have this issue.
Thank you, seems to be working fine now.
In version 23.4.1 there is a bug (in 23.2.1 it's ok) in the operation of the mixer brush tool.
Steps to reproduce:1. Set up the mixer brush tool like this:
2. Select the normal brush tool, change its color to any color you like, and paint anything with it.3. Switch to the mixer brush tool and try painting with it. The first stroke is with the previously selected color even though the mixer brush should be clean4. Alternatively to step 3: Switch to the mixer brush tool and increase or decrease its size - its color is suddenly set to the color of the previous brush.
You don't need all these steps to show this issue :Just select the "Mixer Brush Tool", then hit twice the "X" keyboard button (inverting Background/Foreground twice), and before painting, resize the "Mixer Brush Tool" size, and now, when you paint, it's using the Foreground color.
the problem has not been solved at all and is causing serious difficulties for those who use frequency separation techniques. Get a move on and fix it!
https://youtu.be/rxeY2iTa02oLittle video made to show the issue.1- X key x22- Resize Mixer Brush size3- Paint : Issue : painting with Foreground ColorSo basically, when these steps are done : "changing Foreground Color" + "Resizing Shape of the Mixer Brush", the Mixer Brush Tool is not working properly.
This issue was discussed extensively in another report, with examples, in March. We are in July and version 23.4.1 HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-mixer-brush-not-working-corrrectly/idc-p/1... Here an explanation video. https://youtu.be/rxeY2iTa02oA whole community of retouchers using Frequency Separation is frustrated and angry. When do you solve this problem?let's hurry.
this bug not fixed yet (until PS 23.4.2)
@Mohit Goyal It hasn't been fixed. Please change it back to under investigation.
Please fix this quickly. The mixer brush cannot be used properly. My photoshop is 23.4.2.
This bug is pretty old, too. The mixer brush does not clean in time.
Looking at the comments fixed above, it was informed that it was modified in 23.4, but it is not. Currently, the 2022 version is 23.4.2 and the bug remains the same.
This has not been fixed. Please fix the mixer brush quickly. In four months, 2023.
When will this be fixed? The current Photoshop is 23.4.2 and the problem remains the same.
Not Fix Yet! Please Fix
mixer brush doesn't gently mix the colors of my image, it makes a mess.
If anyone suffers from this bug like me, use the 2021 version instead of the 23.4.2 version. That's fine.
People who can't use mixer brush can blend with a normal brush.
You can alt-click any color, and storke few times.
Unfortunately, threads that have already been marked as repaired will no longer be answered.
Even if it's not fixed like this mixer brush bug,
You just have to use it at the expense of inconvenience and hope it will be fixed accidentally in Photoshop 2023 or 2024. Because there's a lot of bugle reports that say they've been fixed for years and they've been left unattended.
Use other tools instead of a mixer brush.
@di25669441j5ra There's nothing hopeless like "Don't use a problematic tool because it won't be fixed."Adobe won't turn a blind eye to this.
It hasn't been fixed yet.(PS 23.5)
On Keyboard, Press x, x and change mixer brush size. than bug again. same foreground color load.
same issue. I updated it to 23.5, but the wrong color is still loaded.
@Mohit Goyal Hi Mohit. I was pleased to see that this was amended in version 23.4. But it wasn't fixed in practice, and the current version is 23.5.As the above users say, the wrong monochrome is still loaded.
Please change this to patch in progress instead of marking it as "fixed". This has not been fixed...........=(
