P: PS 25.12 on MacOS 15 Menu Buttons wont work after using Camera Raw Filter (Intel Macs)

MacOS Sequoia 15

Photoshop 2024 and Photoshop (Beta)

Top menu not working after opening camera raw filter from Photoshop, making an edit and going back to Photoshop. 

Steps to reproduce
Open an image in Photoshop, make edits as usual

Select Filter > Camera Raw Filter

Make an edit, like adding a Vignette
Click OK to go back to image
Click on any item in the top menu - nothing is clickable

Must force quit application and reopen for menu items to be clickable again

Would you mind testing the latest version of Photoshop (beta) from the Beta Apps section in the Creative Cloud desktop app? 

 

If the issue exists, DM me directly with the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > upload and attach here. We will continue to investigate this.

@PattyBuch Photoshop version 2024 has not yet been tested to run on MacOS Sequoia 15 as far as I'm aware, you can try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences to see if that helps

How would resetting preferences change the functionality of top menu bar? I am talking about the File, Edit, Image, Layer, etc. Not the tools menu.  

Unfortunately, I am unable to try until Monday.  I am also going to check using keystrokes.

Hey, @PattyBuch & @volkan_0021. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. We'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Please share screenshots, or video of the reported behavior along with the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > upload and attach here. 

 

I'll move this to discussions for now. We've tried to recreate this on macOS 15.0 on an MBP, and Photoshop worked as expected. As of now, Photoshop v25.12 and later are compatible with macOS Sequoia.

Its working fine for me on both Intel and Apple Silicon. I haven't seen the AMD graphics problem so far on the Intel machine, either.

Attached is the video and System Info.
I had uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled to see if that would help.  It did not.  

To get it to start working again, I have to force quite and reopen.  Unable to save anything.

Another thing to try is Skip loading optional and third-party plug-ins and see if the issue is still there.

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?

(read this entire post before acting please)

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

 

Here’s some info on how to do that:

  1. Quit Photoshop.

  2. Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder.

    Windows: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

     
    Note: The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see How to access hidden user library files.
  3. Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe for a back-up of your settings

  4. Open Photoshop.

     New preferences files will be created in their original location.

 

 

Note re macOS: The user Library folder is hidden by default.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references. 

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

  In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key.

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

 

If that doesn't fix the issue:

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.

Still hanging? 

Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. 

Do you still have problems?

 

 

 

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

 

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

(See above about preserving preferences though! It’s worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

 

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.

@NB, colourmanagement - I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of Photoshop, twice, and it still isn't working for me.  @Sameer K - are you any closer to figuring this out?  I really need to do some work with Photoshop. Thank you!

@michaelgc if you didn't already, please try following the comprehensive reset process I described above. It has worked for many people with hard to solve issues.

You probably have some other issue that is specific to your computer setup, since this isn't a universal problem. Photoshop is working correctly for me on both Intel and M1 Macs..

@Sameer K @NB, colourmanagement 

I have completed the below suggestions and I am still unable to use the Photoshop Top Menu Bar after I use the Filter > Camera Raw Filter tool and go back to the image.The only way I can use Photoshop again is to do a Force Quit to reopen the application. I uploaded a screen capture of the process in another post in this thread and sys info. 

 

  1. Reset Photoshop Preferences
  2. Removed the Preferences Folder
  3. Allowed Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy
  4. Unchecked Multithreaded Compositing - and restarted Photoshop.
  5. Uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restarted Photoshop. 
  6. Ran the Adobe CC cleaner tool, and reinstalled Photoshop for the 3rd time

I experience this exact same problem with both Photoshop 2024 and Photoshop Beta on both my MacBook Pro (Intel chip) and my Mac Studio (M2 chip).  I have reset preferences with no effect.
