P: "Save As" no longer appear with second monitors or Sidecar running after update to macOS Monterey

"Save As" no longer works after update to Mac Monterey OS

When I try to "Save As" I get no result. Normally a dialog box will pop up with format / file location options but it's no longer happening. I am trying to save a .psd file as a .psd file.

I have tried going to File / Save As and also the cmd/shift/S keyboard shortcut

I am also seeing this behavior in InDesign, but the Save As command works in Illustrator.

After spending sometime on the work, finally I find nothing has been saved, moreover, now, I cannot Save As, cannot Export...

After click "Save As", no window pop out

"Save Copy", nothing pop out.

Then I tried to "Export", the export window comes out, but then, after clicking "Exporting" in the export window, nothing happened, no window pop out, no responding, just stay there.

The "Full Disk" permission has been granted.

Just hours ago, everything is working well.

I have no idea what has happend.

Please help.

By the way, before the problem happen, about hours ago, I changed an option:

File Handling > Save As to Original Folder, this was unticked.

It was the only thing was changed, then the problem comes.

But now, I tick it again, still same problem, cannot save, cannot save as, cannot export...

I made some searches then found the problem is the external monitor!

Please see a reply in this post 09-DEC-2021:

S/he mentioned that it's caused by External Monitor. I couldn't believe that until I just un-plug my external monitor, then the "Save As" window comes out again.

But that's not reasonable:

1. I have done nothing, the external monitor has been connecting to my Macbook for weeks, and everything has been working well, until hours ago, suddenly, the Save As window won't appear any more, it is so weird.

2. I don't think I can work without an external monitor, just for "Save" in PS, I need to disconnect the External Monitor?

Hopefully this can help some members here, and Adobe support can read then provide a bug fixing.

Here is a workaround, after investigating in this forum and contact with Support from Adobe.

Problem:

If you are connecting to an External Display, then found the "Save As" window / dialog box does not appear,

Solution:

Switch the Primary Display to your Macbook LCD, set the external monitor as "Extended Display". Reopen Photoshop, the Save As window will come again.

It does work for me.

I can't save. When I try to, nothing happens. No pop-up ...nothing. I created a new user to see if everything was ok there and it was, so I know it's some thing in my user. I have tried throwing away the PS preferences but that didn't solve the issue. Any ideas what else can I try to sort this out?

I see here that someone else seems to have the same issue https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/can-t-save-at-all-does-nothing/m-p/12...

and the suggestion of trying exporting doesn't do anything either. I can't even save actions, or export brushes literally nothing happens

Fiddling around, I have found that I can save out a file in it's native format (psd) if I select Invite under File. After it uploads it's then there in my Cloud docs. So luckily as I have PS running on 2 machines, all is not totally lost. It would still be nice to go 'old school' and save direct to a local folder though.

Forgot to mention, sometimes when I try to open something I get this blank dialog box, blank except for 'Open Cloud Documents, thank goodness. Nothing like being forced to adopt new practices eh?

I wish it were that simple. That didn't fix it for me. It's not that the toolbar isn't at the top of the display I'm using it's that when I try to save a document, nothing happens. The pop up window never appears.

When trying to open a document it is generally ok to open a locally stored doc the first time but after that I tend to only get the option of opening a Cloud Based Document as everything else is grey.

I wish it were that simple. It's not that the tool bar isn't in the right place and that wouldn't explain why I'm getting grayed out dialog boxes. Something in my setup is making this happen as it appears to be ok under a different user. I just can't figure out what's up. Very keen to hear other suggestions as I need to sort this out without having to shift everything over to new user.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. What I'm experiencing seems to fall into Monteray issues, unfortunately the recommendation of disconnecting the 2nd monitor doesn't resolve the problem. I guess the problem is bigger or different.

Hey there,

It appears to be something going on if you have an external monitor. If you
do, try disconnecting, restarting PS and then try saving as. Or, instead of
disconnecting, and if you have the external monitor set as your main
monitor, try making your main computer (iMac or MacBook) your main monitor,
restart PS and it should work. It’s weird, but worked for me.

The PS version 23.1 has unfortunately not brought any improvement. The monitor problem is still there. There are also problems opening data. Allegedly you don't have any access rights here. Even though I created the file. Working on a macBook Pro 16" M1Pro with Monetry 12.1

For anyone having this issue *only* when using an external monitor with a MacBook Pro (and probably also any other notebook), I solved the issue by doing the following:

Quit Photoshop
Unplugged the external monitor from the MacBook
Opened Photoshop (again with the monitor disconnected)
Opened a file and went to File > Save As (the dialog always has shown for me when the ext monitor is disconnected)
Now, WHILE the Save As dialog is open, I connected the external monitor.

With that, the dialog was showing. And even upon subsequent re-starts of Photoshop with the monitor connected, Save As dialog would always show.

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me! Maybe it just forced Photoshop into having to show the dialog since it was already open and that kind of reset things for it? Not sure the "why" but in any case, not having issues with this anymore. Hopefully it helps someone else!

On MacOS Monterey with most up to date photoshop 2022

Photoshop will not save as. It takes me to a blank window where no location or save button is available.

I can regular save but save as doesn't work. Save as copy also doesn't work.

Occasionally restarting computer fixes it briefly but after some time, save as stops working again.

Thanks @MikeLong that solved my problem.

To be clear: the dialog box isn't out of bounds. this can normally be easily rectified by changing the resolution of your screen, and back. When Saving as, or saving for web, after clicking save, i could go on working.. This would also not have been possible if the dialog had been out of bounds. Setting my laptop screen as the main monitor solved the issue for me.
