File and the image distorted after putting and illustrator jpeg output as smart object

I have been working on my portfolio pages on various Illustrator files. Then I've put the exported jpegs from the illustrator to photoshop mockup file. However, one of the pages exported with a white line from illustrator so I changed the export option from type optimized to art optimized. After I put the art optimized image to photoshop, the file appeared with marks of various colors. Now, eventhough I've deleted the jpeg files, the photoshop file is still corrupted. I have no idea how to fix it. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi @Miray_Simsek3449! I'm checking in to see if you had any luck with your issue. Let us know if you're still facing problems. We'd be glad to help! In addition to the steps Anshul has suggested, you can try out these as well:

Make sure both apps use the same color settings: In Photoshop/ Illustrator, Edit > Color Settings. Match profiles or use "Convert to Profile" to unify them.

Could you try rasterizing the Smart Object temporarily to see if the issue is preview-related?

Let us know how it's going!

Cheers!

Hi @Miray_Simsek3449,

Thank you for sharing the screenshots and explaining your issue clearly. I can see how frustrating it must be to encounter unexpected distortions and corruption when placing your Illustrator-exported JPEGs into Photoshop as smart objects.

To troubleshoot and get to the bottom of this, could you please help clarify a few details:

  • Which versions of Illustrator and Photoshop are you currently using?

  • Does this distortion happen consistently with all JPEGs exported as “Art Optimized,” or just this particular file?

  • Have you tried exporting your file as PNG or TIFF from Illustrator instead of JPEG to check if the issue persists?

  • Could you share a screenshot of the export settings you used in Illustrator?

  • Also, can you share the system info from the PS help menu, just copy & paste it here?

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following quick checks:

  • Ensure both Photoshop and Illustrator are updated to the latest versions.

  • Try turning off GPU acceleration in Photoshop temporarily (Preferences > Performance > Uncheck “Use Graphics Processor”), restarting Photoshop, and see if the distortion persists.

  • Check if the Illustrator artboard aligns precisely with your content to avoid white line issues on export.

Please feel free to share additional screenshots or details. We’ll work together to get this sorted out quickly!

Best,

Anshul Saini
