If I alter the settings on any single brush, it applies the changes to ALL my brushes, even the ones I haven't created. It's really annoying. How can I stop this from happening?

How are you changing brushes? If you change in settings then only the brush shape changes.

Make some new brush presets and change in your brushes palette not brush settings. Jsut check the appropriate boxes when making new brushes.
