Is there a way to batch rename a folder full of files?

Hi all! I used to do this:

Process a bunch of images using Photoshop. Then I'd open Fireworks and run a batch process that renamed them (it added on the text "_big" after each existing image name. I'd do hunreds of images at once. So it saved me a lot of time. I haven't needed to do this in years. But... now I do. And I just found out that my OS Catalina won't run Fireworks. So is there a way to batch rename images in Photoshop? And if so, how? I don't need to alter the images in any way... just rename them... or rather, add the exact same text for each one on to their name.

More info would be required on the exact step by step method that leads to having the unwanted " copy" added...

Yes, you can remove rather than add using an Adobe Bridge Batch Rename String Substitution (find/replace):

However, if you only wanted to remove the final " copy" from the text, then you would need to employ Bridge's more powerful "Regular Expression" based String Substitution feature:

Thanks, Stephen A Marsh... I have a bunch of tif images. I'm running an action on them that resizes them, etc., and saves them into a separate folder as gif files. It's when those are saved the the word "copy" is added to the file name. When I run the action on one image... it doesn't do this. But when I batch them... it does. So for instance... an image entitled "cover.tif" becomes "cover copy.gif" after it's been batch processed. As I mentioned, I had fixed this problem in the past... but I can't for the life of me remember how to do it! I did this type of work years ago, but haven't done it in a long time. So I'm trying to recreate all the handy actions I had a long time ago.

As jamiea38134238 demonstrated, it is best to initially produce the correct filename, however, if this is not possible you can indeed use Adobe Bridge's Batch Rename tool to add the suffix:

As you are on a later version of the Mac OS, the Finder has a very simple "Rename Finder Items" option... Simply select multiple finder items and you can then configure as required:

I use batch renaming in Bridge constantly. Can't imagine any simpler way.

Of course, Bridge works great for that. I just prefer to not open any extra programs if I can avoid it.

So here's my next challenge. When I batch a bunch of images, how do I get them to save without the word "copy" in their name? I used to know how to do this, but I don't remember.

And if there's not a way to do that, then can I run that same batch process and REMOVE the word "copy" from the name?

If you want to do it in PS, its pretty easy. First, create an action that just saves and closes a file. You only have to do this once. Then you can use File->Automate->Batch and set it up as below. Works a treat!

Well, I should have done so more research before posting this question. Looks like I can do what I need to do using Bridge. I hate to download yet another application, but in this case it's fine. I was ready to download Fireworks anyway!
